As the winter doldrums were just starting to kick in, I jetted off to Cabo for a little getaway. Having paid for a non-stop flight to Mexico, one would assume I was flying non-stop to Mexico. Right? However, once I had settled into the plane, buckled my seat belt and prepared for takeoff, we were all informed that there would be a brief layover in Corpus Christi, Texas, due to the "strong headwinds." Apparently we wouldn't make it to Mexico if we didn't stop to refuel! A collective grumble rose throughout the plane as we braced ourselves for a seven hour journey, rather than four. Two bumpy landings, and a popped ear later, every traveler looked exhausted as we were ushered onto a bus to Royal Decameron, a resort that had just opened a ... read more

Our six month “visa” to Mexico will soon be expired and we will be ending our visit to the Baja California Peninsula. We are spending our last month in Playa Rosarito, a small beach town just 20 minutes south of the U.S. Border. I put parenthesis around the word visa for a reason. We don’t have one! Technically we are illegal aliens and have been for our entire trip in Baja. We were talking to a local expat and told him of our lack of paperwork and he explained that large portions of the people in Baja are “illegal”. Now knowing that there are so many of “us” gives us the confidence to finally confess our less than correct ways. When we originally crossed the border at Tijuana back in August we read in Lonely Planet ... read more

Aw, wine.... I booked this trip months ago and did the appropriate research...Ensenada seems like a nice city. But I also heard some annoying things...the usual "vendors" bothering you every five seconds..."I make you good price" and following you around and not taking no for an answer... I wont get into it, but I did NOT want to deal with that this time. So when I found out that you go to a winery in Ensenada...an hour south of the city and sample good wines and get a free bottle of wine along with some delicious snacks and NO kids around?? Yes, please! We boarded a comfy motorcoach bounded for two vineyards. Apparently these vineyards supply 90% of Mexico's wine industry. Our bus guide Melody gave us plenty of interesting info on Ensenada and the wine ... read more

Geo: 22.88, -109.9Our last stop in Mexico was a memorable one. We arrived in the vicinity of Cabo San Lucas before the sunrise, around 7am. We wouldn't be docking at a port or cruise terminal today. Instead, we were anchored in the bay and tendered to the pier via the lifeboats. Once ashore, we linked up with todays tour group and boarded a comfy Catamaran boat. The waterfront area of the city was pretty in itself; dozens of bars, shops, restaurants, yachts and hotels on a tropical beach setting. Heading out from Cabo San Lucas, we were treated to an all included continental breakfast. The Mexican coffee was delicious. We cruised out by the famous Lovers Beach, past a large sea lion colony and on to the spectacular cliffs and rock formations of Lands End. We spent ... read more

"On Tuesday it wasn't really a good day because I threw up because I got food poisoning from this restaurant called Mustafa. Only 3 of us got it, but I am fine now. Then Wednesday we just stayed at the hotel at the pool. We played soccer and had a little picnic by the pool. Now it is Thursday, it was not a good day either because I lost my ipod. I cried so much that my eyeballs almost fell out. But we went to one of the best restaurants in Mexico called Laja. It was very good. When we got back to the hotel we packed. Friday we left Mexico but that was not the end of the trip because we were going to San Diego to see my grandpa Jay." - Sofia After a ... read more

"On Monday we went whale watching. We were searching for Grey Whales. We saw a lot. We went to a seafood restaurant and it was soooo good. We had lobster." - Sofia On our 3rd full day in Baja, it was time to leave the Guadulope Valley and go to Ensenada. We decided to go whale watching and after convincing Milan that it would be fun(parents bought him a super hero mask), we took off on a 3-4 hour boat ride. It took about 1 hour to get out to the islands where the grey whales were migrating. I had a great time seeing whales on our trip last summer to Iceland so I was really looking forward to doing it again. On the way out, daddy and I played with pringles and shot some funny ... read more

"Over Spring Break I went to Baja Mexico with my dad, it was awesome! The first day we got there we got our friends from the airport and went to the hotel called Boutique (I think). Then we went to this taco place. It was really good. The next day we went the supermarket to buy things we needed. I bought a doughnut. On Saturday, we went to a couple wineries and my dad bought wine, and lots of it. Sunday we went to only 2 wineries and then stayed at the hotel. We went in the pool and went to the foosball room." - Sofia Time for another trip out of the country, and this time to our neighbor, Mexico. It was my first time there and my 52nd country. Ah, I continue my search for diving with Manta Rays and Whale Sharks, and sharks of any kind. I enjoyed my Volunteer trip to Mozambique, but as I said in my blog, the diving was disappointing. So, a friend who has a non profit called Pelagic Life, recommended the Revillagigedo Islands, archipeligo commonly called the Socorro Islands. Randy and I left Dec 1 for Cabo San Lucas so we could relax before boarding the Solmar V dive boat on December 2nd. We stayed at one of the hotels recommended by the Solmar V, the Playa Grande, a very nice hotel. We only had one mishap....usually it is me falling or doing something else stupid, but this time it was my esposo, Randy. Going to dinner he fell up the stairs. Yes, UP the stairs. We sat ... read more

So I left Jack and San Francisco behind a week ago Tuesday. The riding south of San Fran was pretty sweet; lots of turns, just above the ocean. I spent two days making it down to LA, where I timed it perfectly arriving for rush hour traffic. 8 lane freeways and I was crawling along in 1st gear. Luckily LA is a small place and I only had to spend about an hour and a half doing this. I met up with my friends Tony and Josephine for dinner and we checked out Downtown Disney and grabbed dinner. Thursday, I continued on to San Diego where I would be hanging out with my buddy JP and his girlfriend Heather for the weekend. JP had ordered me the soft cases for my side panniers that could not ... read more
