3.12.06 We have finally reached Mexico, or at least the part known as Baja. To many people, they are not the same thing, and from what little we have seen, I am inclined to agree, although my impressions of it being less populated and more like wilderness here are not based on actual experience in Mexico. Baja seems like a huge extension of the American southwest, combined with a rough seacoast and aqua semi-tropical waters (reminiscent of southern Turkey or photos I've seen of Sicily). The desert is the landscape, coming right down to the sea, with hardly a lush plant anywhere, except where occasional oases crop up around infrequent springs.
