Port Angeles - Victoria This morning before leaving Port Angeles for Canada was quite interesting. K.C. called at 6:15 to make sure we were up in time to make our ferry and to let us know coffee was ready. I don't drink coffee but did forget to leave a wake up call so it was very nice of her to make sure we met our other travel pans. K.C also gave us water bottles to take with us so we didn't have to buy them today. She also gave us the name of the tourism guy and told us to go talk to him and gave us food places in Canada to make sure we went to. So from there we walked the 4 blocks to the ferry. The ferry was very much like the one ... read more

so after my long hard first stressful week of work! Mathew and I headed down to a 'patio' area of a bar (seats outside on the pavement), where in 3 hours I drank a few beers and got more of a suntan than I have ever got after a full day of Scottish sun. although I did not apply lotion and closely resembled a tomato (tomaedo)... Toronto news van was parked on the street with all its satellite dishes and cameras and then we realised that to 'capture the atmosphere the news man would be broadcasting from the patio. lipstick out; 'hello mum' handwritten on napkins we were all ready for 'action' in all we were 'live' 3 times each time more amusing than the first and slightly redder. one week and I am already ... read more

Alright, I'm all packed. I don't know if you can actually call what I am as 'packed' though. I have a pair of capris, a pair of modrobes, a dry-fit long sleeve shirt, pair of shorts and swimsuit. Oh and three pairs of underwear. All set for two months? SURE!......Oh boy. What am I getting myself into? Please leave comments when you visit the blog. I'd love to read them.... read more

UntitledBarbara Smatlanek A lone mallard duck sat at the edge of the sidewalk in this Scarborough neighbourhood. The creek that once was, has been encroached upon and made almost non-existant by ugly new houses built about two years ago. These houses obscure the sunrise and have no architectural saving graces. The duck was alone. No sign of a female. The only open body of water in the vicinity is a small artificial pond created by the ugly house developer. Perhaps a nest is to be found there. No fish live in the pond. Thankfully ducks do not eat fish; just green stuff like their distant relatives, the Canada Geese. These creatures too are in an area that used to have water and now has nothing but rock, gravel and parking lot. Yet the faithful fowl return ... read more

Itinerary We're in Ottawa right now visiting with our daughter. Here's our itinerary in Europe for future reference: April 24: Depart for Frankfurt April 25-26: Frankfurt: We hope to take an excursion down the Rhine to view the castles. April 27-May 1: Paris:We've rented an apartment on Avenue de la Bourdonnais, from which we (supposedly) can see the Eiffel Tower. We intend to see all the sights we have time for, eat lots of good food, and drink some wine. Then we pick up our Peugot at the airport and head north. May 1 - 9: Boulogne sur Mer (near Calais) From here, we'll tour around, perhaps venturing into England, Belgium, Holland--who knows? But we'll visit some of the war memorials, gardens, and whatever else looks interesting. May 9-12: Making our way down to Bonnieux (in ... read more

So, while Canada has a lot to offer in addition to Squamish, I am faced with a perpetual challenge. When the sun is out and the rock is dry, how am I ever going to get out and see other parts of Canada? Of course other travel and exploration could happen when it is raining, but there are problems with this. The weather changes so quickly here, that you cannot believe the forecast. This means that we do not commit to anything else on a weekend and plan to go climbing, unless it is raining when we wake up. When it is raining, we are then left without an alternative plan, because we could not conceive of not climbing. (Sorry for the double negative there, grammar police, teachers and soon to be ex-teachers - ie ... read more

Good times North America » Canada » British Columbia By Sazzle DazzleApril 22nd 2007 I see no reason to write about the bad times as that is something that I will only ever to relate to so instead I will tell you about the good times. Christian, Lisa and I were inseperable during my 12 day stay at the ranch, we ate together, we worked together, we played together and rode together. These two ended up becoming an 'item' during my stay but never made me feel unwanted. All of these photos are of us having the most amazing times, the good and the bad balanced each other out in the beginning but during my last 3 days the bad were really bad. I have never doubted myself, I... read more
