Well, it's our 4th day of rain (at least by late afternoon it finally quit) - felt great to be outdoors and not dripping wet! We're in Whitehorse - it was a beautiful drive with lots of lakes and rivers. Yesterday was a also a great drive - we saw lots of wildlife - stone sheep (similar to our big horn sheep), lots of wild buffalo, red fox, deer, elk (Alvin said all he needs to see is carribou and bear & he'll be happy). Sorry I haven't been answering emails - I haven't been able to get into it. Tonight it at least gave me an error message (Kim, I did some checking with AOL - but didn't get to a spot I could report the error) - It was error code COFE180D; report ID ... read more

Greetings From The Yukon! North America » Canada » Yukon » Watson Lake By Lisa Ted and ChongJune 23rd 2007Well me managed to make it to the Yukon.(600 miles up the Alaska Highway) The last couple days have been amazing for wildlife viewing! We have seen bears (black and brown), caribou, stone sheep, bison and of course bird sized mosquitoes. Travel remains smooth, our health is good and spirits high. I ended my fishing career in Alberta batting 0%. However, I chated up some locals and they must have pitied me because they gave me two free Rainbow Trout which we gutted and grilled. Check out the sick p... read more

The Alaska Highway The Alaska Highway (aka Alcan) was built in 1942. It stretches from Dawson Creek, BC to Fairbanks, AK. It took 9 months and to complete! It was important to complete it quickly during WWII. The current length is 1,390 miles long and it is paved, but the original road was a dirt road. There are several areas that have been rerouted over the years to reduce the number of curves or treacherous hills, such as suicide hill. Originally it was a military road and was opened to the public in 1948. As we drive along it and see the terrain that it crosses, I become even more impressed at the engineering feat and organization that it took to construct this road.. Hello everyone! Well, as Jenica mentioned in her last message, I'm currently camped out in the Yukon, in a town of 100 known as Beaver Creek. This is my second year here and I'm looking forward to having more excellent adventures until I book it down to Mexico in August. Arriving in Whitehorse, the capital of the Yukon Territory, I met up with a few people I knew from two years before, and spent the next day hiking and hanging out with them. I saw my first glimpse of the northern lights, and even though it was somewhat unimpressive in comparison to how amazing they can be, I was still quite excited. Then day two was off on the staff bus headed for beaver creek with other staff members. Unfortunately the bus broke down right ... read more

Hello everyone, Well I am back to work in the Yukon, in a small town called Faro. There is about 400 people living here. It's a pretty quiet little town compared to other communities I've worked in, and I mean quiet, like nobody is out and about after 9 pm, nobody. Luckily, I'm a loner and don't really care. I've been so busy travelling over the past 6 months, it's kind of nice to have a place to unpack and some time to reflect on my recent adventures. Of course it's also good to have an income again. Faro is a 5 hour drive northeast of Whitehorse. It used to be a busy mining town back in the 70s, so there are all these abandoned buildings around town, which looks kind of depressing, but makes ... read more

Almost there North America » Canada » Yukon » Whitehorse By UnemployedMay 26th 2007 Rodney (the truck) is still running. He is at 220,000 now and going strong despite Casey's heedless attitude to CAUTION signs. With 2,000 extra pounds the truck can still get airborn. Who knew? We have about 900 miles left to go on a 3700 mile trip. We plan to be in Alaska for the summer and we have not worked out details much beyond that. In one day we saw a wolf, moose, caribou, elk, dahl sheep (Big horns), bear, coyoye, eagle, buffalo, and lots of deer. Oh, and wild horses running...very surreal. We hope to be in AK Sunday night... read more

Well, here it is, my 75th (I think), and final entry (maybe). It was 5 1/2 months ago that Derek, Mark, and I said goodbye to our loved ones, boarded a BC Ferry, and left the land of Tim Horton's, Canadian Tire, cold Pacific Ocean, and sane traffic behind. Yah, that was a random summary of Canada, wasn't it? Well, it's what came to mind. I thought I would do one last entry to sum things up a bit. And yet, I'm really not done my year of crazy travelling. In fact, as I write this I'm sitting in bed in Whitehorse where outside it is -10C and there's a whole lot of snow on the ground. Soon I'll be off to Edmonton for my cousin's wedding. Then I think I have a trip to Ottawa ... read more

Hello everyone and Happy New years I will be leaving Whitehorse tommorrow morning on a four month trip through Southeast Asia, during which time I plan on posting frequent Travel blogs here on this pretty sweet website (thanks Ben). My Christmas holidays up here in Canada's true north have been amazing. For those of you who have never been further north then Edmonton or Prince George I can assure you that there is some great things north of these cities other then just dirty oil sands and rig towns. Take a look at these pictures, and I hope to see some familiar faces here soon enough. Corey Rich, ... read more

It's the wee hours of Boxing Day morning and Rob still isn't yet home from his last night out in the Horse. I've got packing left and our ETD of 4am is in two hours. We spent our last days signing off to the north with various Christmas normalities as well as the Third Annual Marsh Lake Polar Dip (courtesy of Craigens on the Lake) and a main street snowshoe streaking. Hopefully things liven up as we head south... but first east.... read more
