Hello everyone,
Well I am back to work in the Yukon, in a small town called Faro. There is about 400 people living here. It's a pretty quiet little town compared to other communities I've worked in, and I mean quiet, like nobody is out and about after 9 pm, nobody. Luckily, I'm a loner and don't really care. I've been so busy travelling over the past 6 months, it's kind of nice to have a place to unpack and some time to reflect on my recent adventures. Of course it's also good to have an income again.
Faro is a 5 hour drive northeast of Whitehorse. It used to be a busy mining town back in the 70s, so there are all these abandoned buildings around town, which looks kind of depressing, but makes the town look way bigger than it actually is. The mine shut down quite a few years ago and the population went from over 2000, to just under 400. Oh, the glory days. If you're looking for cheap property in the wilderness, this is the place. If you don't mind the limited selection at the grocery store, which by the way, is shutting

i saw this couple on my drive to faro from whitehorse. i would have thought this a bit risky in late spring, i think it was april 24th, but apparently not.... down soon, or the isolation, you could get a nice piece of land for about $27,000. I'm pretty sure that's with a house on it.
There is really good hiking around town, a big river and lots of lakes to go fishing. This town is really in the middle of nowhere, but also somewhere special. I love waking up in the morning and looking out the window and being greeted with mountains, trees, river, just total wilderness, a nice reflection.
I have only seen darkness and stars once since I got here and that was at about 2 am. It starts getting light out around 4 am and the sun is still in the sky at 11pm, setting soon after, but not getting actually dark until much later, just dusky.
I managed a trip to Haines, Alaska on the May long weekend. It was on the ocean, big mountains, LOTS of snow still and nice people. See pics.
So that's about it for now, lots of love and hugs, ang.
