Walk up Mont Royal Sun shines and the air is crisp Lovely views up there. I saw the sun peeking through the windows and was excited to see that the nice weather is still with us. It's a perfect day to go for a nice uphill trek to Mont Royal. I believe it is one of the must see places when in Montreal. My Korean roommate kept pushing bagels on me. She bought a dozen and then realized she bought too many and didn't want to lug them all the way to Ottawa with her the next few days. So it was nice to start the day with bagel and cream cheese. After quickly reorganizing myself and packing my backpack, I was off towards Peel Street and then up Mont Royal. The walk was really nice ... read more

Off to Montréal The weather has cleared up some Excellent! Allons! I'm not sure if I just wrote down the right word in French for "let's go" but oh well...it fits in with the haiku. haha Just a quick hello from me. I can't believe that I've made it to Montréal already...in fact I arrived only a few hours ago! I happened across this internet place that seemed quite reasonable especially in comparison to the $6/hour I've been encountering. This isn't free but it sure does seem "bargainous" in comparison. Anyhoo, I plan on spending the weekend here in Montréal before heading off to Ottawa on Monday. I don't have anything in particular planned other than going for a walk up Mount Royal if the weather is nice and I'll also meet up with Dana (whom ... read more

Back home I passed the entire day not believing what was happening and was about to happen. I kept on calling my friend, to make sure we wouldn't be missing anything. *exhales* Wow, I am leaving in a few hours. I need to pack, and make sure everything on my list is checked! We are leaving Montreal at 19:30 and going right away to England to arrive there early morning tomorrow... You cannot know how weird this is, I can't seem to realize much of what's happening, I really don't get that in less than a day I will be walking around London. How crazy is that! Who would have thought so... I didn't! And well thanks to Samantha for all of this, she's the one leaving to live over seas and well I am accompagnying ... read more

bonjour! Comment sa va, parla vu englis? wee! Tops someone specks english! Montreal is so french it's crazy! All the signs & menus & half don't have English under aswell. Half the people in M don't speak english well or don't want to speck english. I had dramas getting ice for the beer, ice is glace, remember that, it could save ya life or at least save you drinkin hot beer! I spent 5 days in M & had a top time, i shared a room with this english couple (Top people). So we walked around, saw the sights, hiked up mont royal, went out partyin & found a top cafe for a huge hangover breaky! On Sunday we went to the Mont royal park and there was markets, lots of drumming, people having picnics on ... read more

Hey! How's it going out there? Long time, no blog hey? Well, the news in the life of Charlieo is that I'm settling in to Montreal again. It's been about a year and a half since my geographic location has been so stable. The Co-op sur Genereux is bustling with bike repairs, giant pots of soup, and for me, lots of computing. Yup, despite the anti-social nature of tap tap tapping on keys, I plan to do a lot of it over the next year. Never mind that right now though; there's been lots of other cool stuff going on in the last month... I'll work backwards, towards my last blog: In the last week, I moved into the bedroom that I'll have 'til the end of December. I really can't over-emphasize how much I appreciate ... read more

Bonjour!!! Our week in Montreal has been great.... Just out of camp where days and nights off are limited and it's difficult to coordinate to have these days with your friends, we're now altogether in this beautiful city. Eight of us left New Hampshire on Sunday (28/8), four of the girls, Jenny, Katie B., Katie D. and me in Jenny's car, and the 4 boys; Andy, Ali, Irek (only came up for the first night!) and Mark by bus. Lee and Jess M. came in another car on Tuesday as did Rowan, Remy and Doughty in Doughty's car. Then Jess B. joined us on Thursday and there is Emma who studies in Montreal so in total we had 15 staff members there at some point during the week!!! It was hectic and noisy, which was much ... read more

Ian, Darcy and I have earned reputations for ourselves since leaving Regina just over a week ago. Since leaving I have spent a night in a farmers field with horsies in Portage La Prairie, had red wine poured into my mouth as I lay drunk on a tarp beside a fire in Thunder Bay, taken off my shirt and performed the chest dance in front of Darcy's relatives at a wedding in Tommogammi, witnessed the world's greatest light and sound show on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, and Fought the tail end of Katrina the mother Hurricane in Montreal. St. Jerome, QC- 10:04 PM- I have been overwhelmed by feelings of inadequacy since crossing over into the Quebec border two days ago. Inabilities to perform the simplest tasks due to my non existent knowledge of the French ... read more

On a rainy Saturday, August 20th, we drove north from Burlington, Vermont to Montreal. When we crossed into Quebec, suddenly everything seemed French. There were little stone cottages with the curved roofs, road signs in French only, and casual care of the roads. They did not give out free maps of Quebec. They are for sale in the gas stations. Rather than buy one (since we were there a little more than one day), we "fudged it ", with a bike road map and maps from the USA (which of course do not show you much of the roads in Quebec). We went through Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, and by Canal de Chambly, (somehow), where there are bike paths along many roads. We ended up in Boucherville (by accident). But here serundipity took over! Boucherville was the most charming, ... read more
