After a crazy week of more parties getting to know people and starting classes we decided it was about time we saw a bit of Ontario. After much organising (well done B) and worry about whether we'd actually ever leave Guelph we set off for Algonquin Park. Altogether there were 9 of us (Emily, Bianca, Eban, Phil, Karl, Ylva, Julie, Lizzie and myself) and we packed up our belongings into two mini vans and hit the road. After a five hour drive entertaining ourselves with some wicked singing, dancing and abuse throwing at the other car we finally arrived. Thinking that the token Canadian (Emily) would know the way we got quite a surprise when we arrived before them. It was dark and we were gettin a little worried cause it was 9.30pm, pitch black and ... read more

Hey Guys, sorry its taken me so long to update this thing but im a busy wifie here you know. Anyway i'm gonna try and get up to the present day ASAP. I arrived in Guelph on the 3rd of Sept and i was panicking. All alone at last with no idea of where i was going. Anyway i finally arrived at my residence which is a massive (tower) and got moved into my room. There were few other people here cause the Canadians had to wait til Sunday to move in. So i went wandering around my 12 people flat and found some crazy Aussies. Bianca and Eban, within two hours of my arrival they'd dragged (i say that loosely)me to the pub where many other international students were. Met a hundred people that night. ... read more

Well i arrived in Toronto what seems like forever ago, the airport was busy, my little sister was freakin out big time and we got attacked by a random taxi driver who grabbed my bags and bombed it to his car (with us in hot persuit may i add) Anyway we made it too our hostel bang in the mid of China town and i was blown away. It's one of the craziest places i've ever been. Millions of people, strange smells and the heat was killin me. After a few days i reckoned i'd settled in pretty well and had sussed out down town (which is awesome). I was gettin more impressed by the minute that i'd chosen to study here. Did all the sightseeing like the CN tower, a baseball game, shopping, Niagara on ... read more

Hey, just trying this thing out for the first time...like the title says, there is only 2 1/2 months before Ann and I jump on a plane for 21 hours (that doesn't even include the flying time from Ottawa to New Jersey). Now that summer vacation is over and the countdown is on it's seeming more real for sure. Before, it didn't really sink in that we were actually going to do this but it's coming REALLY fast! We're busy now trying to sell off our stuff so it's less junk to store while we're away. We're also busy getting all our documents organized like addresses for Canadian Embassies in the countries we're going to...Malaysian Airlines (that's who we're flying with most of the way) offices for when we want to change our flight dates...and we've ... read more

I'm not one to really pursue a getaway involving a Casino. However, when I found out Drew Carey's Improv All Stars were coming to Casino Rama, I made the trip. I'd never been before and due to the fact the show was late, I decided to stay overnight. I booked a room in their onsite hotel. It was pricey at almost $250.00 CAD a night, but hey, it was a Birthday present to myself. The journey began with a bus ride from my apartment to the subway. From there I went to Dundas station. After departing the subway, I hiked a few short blocks to the Toronto bus terminal. It only cost $10.00 for a two hour ride to Rama, Ontario. The ride was smooth, but because it was in the heat of summer, there was ... read more

Pearson Int'l (YYZ) Toronto, CANADA 1 July 2004 (Canada Day) Our gateway out of Canada. Check In Checked my bag and managed not to give sarcastic answers to the check-in girl. "Did you pack these bags yourself?" -No, a middle-eastern guy did. Funny he knew exactly what to bring... Departures Saying goodbye to my family was painless and surprisingly devoid of saddness. I wondered if I was dead inside but soon enough I had to pass security. I think I was the only one not patted down - maybe you had to pay extra for that. If we were hoping for a good omen (which is unlikely) we'd have been dissapointed by the diabotical thunderstorm. Aparently flying a giant metal plane through lightning doesn't deter the budget airlines from timely arrivals becuase there was no delay. ... read more

Recently found my notes and thought I'd upload them. ***Disclaimer*** I'm not the sort of person who can read a travel guide for long spells - i prefer looking at maps and drawing red lines on them. I can't sit at home and read, "take bus No. 154 for 3 stops, transfer to the red line ..." I am, as a result, totally useless in train stations, airports, bus depots etc. Also I can miss the must-see attraction and end up else where. (I never made it into the Dom in Cologne despite walking past it 5+ times, I did manage to go wading in the Rhine river) So how did I survive? I travelled with a friend (the Buddy System does work) who is organized and prepared. (Ted) All this to say: probably shouldn't ... read more

Hi Everyone Yesterday three of my co-workers and I drove to Niagara Falls and had a very good time. We drove to the Canadian side and parked and got out and walked to the Falls. They are very beautiful, but I always imagined them to be taller. We all took alot of pictures there. Then we walked up to the tourist area with the casinos, tourist shops, and silly museums and shows. You can buy things with USD but you get Canadian money back and they don't give you much as they should at alot of places. But we really didn't care. We wanted to have a good time and none us spent that much anyway. We ate on the patio at Kelsey's at Clifton Hill, while being serenaded by a young man playing piano and ... read more
