Nusalya Chalet Our digs for the next 3 nights was the Nusalya Chalet...a 5 star B&B in Squamish, about the mid-point between Vancouver and Whistler/Blackcomb. It's the first time we've ever stayed at a B&B (well me and Lauren anyway...Jane's done it before) and it's kinda weird to me, but I could get used to it given time. Skiing Getting 5 people organised; out of bed, washed, dressed, breakfasted, packed, on the road, kitted up and on the slopes is turning out to be an ordeal. We started the day at about 7:50am and although it didn't feel like we messed around...by the time we made it to the top of the Whistler gondola for a day of skiing...it was already 12 MID DAY!!! Wayne did OK and managed to score a day lift pass for ... read more

Well it was some time ago now but we settled into our new home in Whistler on October 1st and started looking for things to do until the mountains opened for the season. On October 8th Chris headed with Laura to see the salmon spawning (where salmon swim up the river to mate). The trip was made eventful by the dindgy looking suspension bridge which Chris crossed, the whole time thinking she was doomed. We both started working and earning some much needed $$$. After spending time in the US and moreso lots of money it was great to finally have an income and be settled again for a few months before embarking on our next leg of the trip. We managed to head to our first ever ice hockey match between Alberta Uni and Uni ... read more

so we had 53 cm of snow overnight and perfect blue skies and sunshine today. it was an absolutely epic day... and coincidentally it was my first day at work :( i didn't think you could have a bad day here but i think i've just realised that it definitely happens. and that often has a lot to do with a lot of snow and work happening at the same time. work is good - its very cruisy. there are 3 of us in our little department and we're all Aussies but they're both great. we hang around in the ski storage area in the mornings and help take the guests' skis and boards out, then have lunch, then set up a hot apple cidar stand before heading up to the bottom of the run with ... read more

Well we are leaving in less than 12 hours and can't wait. Trying to pack all that we will need for the next 10 months has been an interesting challenge of packing and repacking and then...packing again. Soon we will be leaving our dearest of friends and family to embark on this adventure. We're leaving our home in the coast mountains to explore a new range in the andes of south america. So we won't see you for most of the year, enjoy it... ... read more

It's a long trip from Bondi to Blackcomb.. when you fly via Fiji, land at LAX, fly to Sacramento.. chill out with Dave T, Ted and Kelly for a few days in Sacramento, pick up your car then drive to Portland to spend the night with Erich and Krista and then wake up early and drive on to Seattle, spend the night with Heather then drive across the border, around Vancouver on Canadian HWY 1 and up to Whistler. Heather and I were late to our dinner reservation with the rest of the crew, after getting the car searched at the Canadian border, stuck behind a snow plow on HWY 99 (10mph for like 1hr), passing a power outage in Squamish (traffic lights were out causing huge backup).. and the lack of chain control on HWY ... read more

Hey y'll Wow, how long has it been since I last write a blog ay!?! Well, its been ages. But to be honest guys, there hasn't been much to write home about. Until now!! For all of you that forgot, it was my birthday yesterday. For those of you that did remember, THANK YOU for your emails and cards and prezzies. It was great to have some parcels to open!!! And thanks for the toys (you know who you are!!!) So in the usual Anna tradition, I had a wild party, drank too much, puked and passed out fairly early but had a blast. And then it snowed!!!! The forst snow in Whistler. It was awsome!! Its all turned to ice now though but its a start. Shouldn't be long till theres enough to board on. ... read more

We're on our final six week stretch with a town that I've become to love and hate all in same breath. It's a place that leaves me speechless with its extensive trails and hide-aways, all essentially in our backyard. But, it's also a place where I've seen myself loose my patience and cringe at the over the top manicured town that I've been calling home. That's exactly what it is though, it has become home. There are people here that I've known for a short time, but feel like I've known a life time. It's a town where playing is at the top of the list and working is there to pay the bills, feed the tummy and help contribute to the next big trip. Yeah, it's expensive here and we have sacrificed a lot, but ... read more

Hello! We've been in Canada now for 5 and a bit days. We started in Vancouver and slept most of the first day (still recovering from the lurg!). Following that we spent a couple of days exploring the city. There's a really cool place called Stanley Park, filled with joggers, cyclists, rollerbladers etc. I've never seen soon many people out being active! The park also had it's own cricket ground (the Oval!), I never new Canadian's placed cricket! The park also has the biggest outdoor I'ver ever seen, probably 100m by 100m. In search of an exercise fix we dived in and completed a few 50m lengths. A bloody long way when you're used to swimming 25m! Another standout attraction just outside the city is Grouse Mountain. We avoided the trek up it and instead caught ... read more

Having left the Ucluelet Camp ground at about 10am and missing our 12.30 ferry by half an hour we (I) was very happy that so had a lot of other people and the kind people at BC Ferries decided to put on another ferry departing at 2pm. Having been told by Matt our whale watching guide that one of the best times to whale spot (!) was while travelling across on the ferry we took up a prime viewing position on the top deck of the ferry. Didn't see a thing!! well there was this tiny little tug boat pulling a massive amount of logs, but that was it. The ferry journey takes about an hour and forty minutes and unless its a clear day you can't see your destination, which makes you think that it's ... read more
