I'm posting this as we finish our family holiday in Whistler. If your kids like skiing in 10 days of constant snow (up the mountain) or rain (at the lower levels) and you enjoy skiing in near zero visibility (either caused by blizzard conditions or, more likely by fog) then Whistler is for you. OK we had great snow, 60 to 80 cms must have fallen in the 10 days we have been here but what's the use of it when you can't see the terrain. We got about 4 hours of hazy sun in the whole ten days, visibility was often down to 15 to 20 feet which is no fun. Shaddy loved our log cottage at Tigh-Na-Mara Resort in Parksville on Vancouver Island, north of Nanaimo. The cottage featured a relaxing forest view. Most other accommodations have a water view of the Strait of Georgia. We spent a relaxing two nights at this special retreat. On the first afternoon we walked along the beach shore and the expanse of water that separated mainland British Columbia from the island. It was not until the next day when we returned to the beach at low tide that we realized how shallow the water was; a drying tide flat of at least a quarter mile extended far into the strait. local to big bear and mammoth. I have access to some pretty great ski resorts. Some friends and i finally make the trek to whistler. That town is a magical place. i'll give them that. also, the people there give off a great vibe. very friendly and up beat. The snow however, terrible. its all timing in a lot of resorts. and for us, we hit it at the worst time. it had rained for several days before we arrived. cleared up a bit, but nothing to make note of. Parts of the run were better fit for a hockey team then snowboarders. Terrible time snowboarding, but loved the village.... read more
