It's very frustrating not being able to find a connection fast enough to put up my pictures. Our week here is nearly over. We have at last got Silas's paperwork in order and he starts work in earnest today. It is very cold this morning, minus 38C. I managed to get the car started and we plan to have a look around Banff and possibly visit the hot springs. Unfortunately much of the week has been spent driving between Lake Louise and Calgary. Calgary is a place I would be happy not to see again. Rebeccah's brother Kingsley has joined us and they have all enjoyed some downhill skiing. Rebeccah is stiff and sore from a big tumble on the mountain on Wednesday. ... read more

Things to do in Winnipeg... I'm afraid to say there wasn't much to report on Winnipeg. I wanted to like it, but it was closed. Like Toronto and Calgary, it has one of those enclosed walkways above street level connecting buildings in the town centre. It enables people to walk in air-conditioned comfort during the blistering cold in Winter or the prairie heat of Summer. The downside is it robs the streets of people and there's less of a buzz about the place. Saturday afternoon, place was like a ghost town. (...in fact, there aren't that many things to do in Winnipeg) So the greyhound took me away again, across Manitoba and Saskatchewan provinces, through Moose Jaw, and Medicine Hat (I've always wanted to go to Medicine Hat) to Calary in Alberta, where I stayed ... read more

Hi everyone Well there is soooo much to catch up on in the last 7-8 days since I had internet access - and it's a lie I am not in the Rockies now but in Vancouver hotel - but I thought I would just give a camping report - as I have left the girls in the hotel BAR (!!!) - they have had a pitcher of beer at a micro brewerey, cocktails in Gastown and I dont know how many pear ciders in the hotel bar , since I left them on the BIGBUS at lunch time. I have been the sensible one and been to the Dr Sun Yat Seng chinese garden and the Art Gallery!!! We are meeting at 8pm - for dinner in posh resto round the corner from hotel so I ... read more

Hi again I am hoping to get up to date now - we have done so much in the last 2 days from our base in Canmore - just outside the Banff Park Gates. I drove from Drumheller to Canmore on Saturday and it was sunny and warm and quite lovely driving on the straight prairie roads then suddenly you are in some rolling foothills and over a ridge the Rocky Mnts loom ahead. The trees are lovely Fall colours and as I took the old Highway 1A - Bow Valley road it was a very lovely drive. I am very happy with the RV - it doesnt feel too BIG once you are driving - and once I got a pillow behind me I can reach the pedals so I am ok!! It is well ... read more

Canada is our penultimate destination. We have allowed 12 days to drive from Calgary to Vancouver via the Rocky Mountains. Our motorhome is huge and feels luxurious - it would have been far too big for many of the roads of Europe and the UK. After picking up the motorhome we drove the short distance to Banff. Soon after leaving the metropolis of Calgary the roads widen and the expanse of the countryside is obvious. The driving is very easy . In Banff we visited the Upper Banff Hot Springs - outdoor springs/pool with a wonderful view over the mountains. After Banff we headed North and visited Johnson Canyon. The walk along the canyon was wonderful, and somehow just what you expected from the Rockies. Lake Louise is approximately half way along the Icefields Parkway ... read more

Well here we are in Canada. The motorhome is bigger and better than ever. It is huge and even has a wall that extends out the side. We have it for 2 weeks. We have been travelling through the Rockie Mountains. It is very cold at night but nice in the day. The scenery is really good and you can see snow. We went to the Colombia Icefields and saw the glaciers. We went in a special truck that has huge tyres so that it can drive up snow. We tried hard to find a bear but we didn't see one. Other people had seen them just near where we had been. At Wells Grey National Park, we saw the salmon trying to jump upstream. The current was so strong they weren't having much luck. We ... read more

July 22nd. Left Jasper NP and continued south through Banff NP on our way back to Kimberley. The weather was cloudy and wet initially then brightened to be a glorious day. Stopped at all (or most) of the scenic look-outs and spent time at Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. Dinner at Radium Hot Springs then on to Kimberley to Anne and Michael's house. We will stay here sightseeing until Val and Mike leave for the UK. Pam and George... read more
