Cyprus is a beautiful island in the Mediterranean Sea. It has a rich history and culture, and it is home to various stunning beaches and archaeological sites. I recently had the opportunity to visit Cyprus and had a great time exploring the island. These four sites were among my trip highlights. Aphrodite's Rock Known as Petra tou Romiou in local parlance, Aphrodite's Rock is not just another picturesque coastal feature. It's the mythical birthplace of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty. Standing on the pebble beach, gazing at the rock rising from the turquoise waters, it made sense to me that this spot has inspired legends and lore. Adding to its visual appeal, Aphrodite’s Rock is steeped in rich mythological significance. Tradition has it that swimming around the rock three times will bring eternal ... read more

Shalom Israel and Palestine - Piprey on wheels Israel/Palestine is one of the most politically unstable regions of the world where the Jews and Muslims are still annoying each other despite standing together in the 21st century. The rife started centuries earlier with the tribes of Cannan, Philistines, Samarians etc living in the Judah and Israel region. David unified the northern kingdom of Israel and southern kingdom of Judah after capturing it from the Jebusites, local inhabitants to establish his capital. Actually, most of the buildings in the old city of Jerusalem were built by Herod, who was a prolific builder. There were the Ottomans (Walls of the old city) and Habsburg empire (Churches) among others. Jerusalem is an old vibrant city where religious identity is expressed strongly by most individuals. The values of peace, harmony ... read more

It was getting closer to the time when our contract in the marina was coming to an end and we were crossing off many things on “our to do list” and feeling pretty good about it. Bob even felt that it was going well enough that he decided to add a couple of new things to the list. Last year when we were on the boat, we knew the fan over the bed was starting to go and was getting quite noisy. Bob figured he’d take the time to see if he could fix it. He worked on it for a while, but then realized it wasn’t going to get any better. We had looked for a replacement when in the US and didn’t find one the exact same size to be mounted the same, so ... read more

7 May 2023 We walked out the door of the house and locked up at 6 in the morning. It was six degrees on our walk to the airport. Tomas' backpack weighed 3.5 kilos and mine an extravagant 4.3. We call ourselves the 'Extreme Packers' but we did wear all our warm clothes on the way to the airport which greatly reduced the weight. It was easy walking with hardly any luggage. We didn't need to join the long queue to check in. just printed our boarding pass and then straight to the gate: luxury travel! No needs to have 'priority' anything when travelling lightweight. We signed up for Singapore Airlines auto check in which meant 48 hours before the flight our seats were automatically allocated and we ended up getting premium seats for both ... read more

It was time to start our long journey back to Tsamaya. Our first leg was getting a ride to the Albany airport from our friend Lisa who picked us up at 8AM. Next was catching the shuttle bus to JFK which we have used before. It leaves Albany at 9:30 and arrived at the terminal for Turkish Airlines about 2PM. From previous experience we knew that the Turkish Airline counter would not open until 3:30 PM as the flight doesn’t leave until 7:30 PM. Surprisingly that time actually goes by quite quickly. We got in line at Turkish Airline, checked our baggage which included one of our carry on bags as we have the luxury even as economy ticket holders of being allowed 2 suitcases each. This way we only then had to deal with our ... read more

During my time in Lebanon, I had the privilege of immersing myself in a myriad of adventures, and I'd like to share my top three favorites that I believe every traveler should experience when visiting this enchanting land. When I strolled through the vibrant streets of Istanbul, I was instantly captivated by the city's unique blend of history, culture, and breathtaking architecture. Turkey has been an unforgettable chapter in my travel journey, and Istanbul, in particular, has stolen a piece of my heart. This city, where East meets West, offers a mesmerizing fusion of the ancient and the modern, making it a true paradise for history enthusiasts and architecture lovers like myself. One of the most awe-inspiring aspects of Istanbul's skyline is its magnificent mosques, each with its own story and architectural flair. After spending countless hours exploring these sacred sanctuaries, I've narrowed down my three favorites, which I believe are an absolute must-visit for anyone traveling to Istanbul. Middle East » Cyprus » Larnaca March 12th 2023
