For all of the people who are following my travels for this fantastic holiday and once in a lifetime opportunity. The flight was not that long and it passed sooner than I ever thought it could. There were so many things to do on the plane to keep me busy with that I barely saw the sun rise as we flew. Things like movies, live video concerts, music, internet and seat-to-seat calling. It was great fun. Landing in Dubai was a bit bumpy because there were quite a lot of rain. I will not be here long and will depart for London in one hour. Not much shopping time I suppose...... read more

PRE WARNING...THE PICS FOR THIS BLOG GO ON FOR TWO PAGES...MAKE SURE YOU DONT MISS OUT! After 26 hours of travelling (and yet another stop in Singapore) we made it to the United Arab Emirates! Although we have been here many times we were not prepared for the weather forecast......RAIN, RAIN and yes more rain. Steves dad and Lillian have said they have not seen rain like it. Today we write this blog looking over flooded streets. See the pics to prove it! So any chance of a tan has literally FADED! Of course this has not stopped us having fun, but also a slight exaggeration, there has been some sunny spells. So what pictures do we have so far? Camels crossing the road, causing the traffic to stop...something you dont see everyday, we halso had ... read more

It should really be very simple. The first step is to catch a flight from London Heathrow to Dubai. OK there are a couple of things that need to be done first to prepare, but nothing too hard. So, wake up on Thursday morning full of cold (that is all three of us - a real family affair) and very excited. Eden is manhandled through basic dressing, and Lisa takes her to nursery as normal. We start to pack the pile of stuff that has been accumulating on the bed for a few days and it all fits into our bags with no problems. This is going well. Just need to clean the house now. What a chore!! I have no idea who normally does this, but hoovering, dusting, cleaning toilets and the like is no ... read more

Never staying more than two nights in one spot, I’ve gotten pretty damn good at packing my bag; it has become a ritual at this point. Everything has its own place and it takes me all of about ten minutes to go from having everything completely strew out across the hotel room to packed and ready to go. Saturday morning, my trusty bag and I boarded another flight and landed in a city quite different from the one’s I left behind. A city with sprawling freeways, countless mega malls, theme parks, gleaming steel and glass skyscrapers and hundred if not thousands of construction cranes dotting the skyline - this is Dubai. Dubai is one of the seven Emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates on the Persian Gulf. Unlike the other Emirates, this country depends ... read more

Catch up. So there we were sitting in the pub on Sunday evening talking about the last few things to do and organise. Fine you might think, but if we hadn't started to talk about what we were doing in an open forum methinks it would have gone very pear shaped on Monday 4th December. Andy, bless him thought we were flying from Gatwick and had just reminded himself to arrange long term parking again because he had forgot to do it last Friday. Well after all of the remaining travellers looking at him at least sideways and muttering phrases like "Berk" under our breath we pointed ot the error of his ways. I can see it now - turning onto the M23 towards Gatwick - "Er why are we going down here?" we would all ... read more

Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow!!!!! Yeah, I know I use that word a lot, but it's just how we are all feeling. We had an incredible day today!! (I woke up with a bit of a headache.........yes, I know.......it was from all the wine that was flowing last night! But weren't those pictures amazing?????? Wish you could have been with us!) We had a city tour by bus today and my pictures will show you some of "old" Dubai and the billboard that depicts what Dubai will look like in the future with all the construction going on. I took pictures of some of the various types of housing, along the waterfront, our walk through the gold and spice markets (sooks, they are called), and other odds and types of pictures that I found interesting. Hi Mom!!!! Do you know where your daughter was last night????????.......riding a camel in the desert, for heaven's sake!!!!!!! So we got back to the hotel after our magnificent lunch and just had time to download some pictures (my card was full, again!), get changed and back down to the lobby. There were 24 jeeps rented, to take us to dinner in the desert. The down side is that it was already dark again so I couldn't get photos of the jeeps racing through the sand dunes. I can tell you that it was "a ride" though! I was hanging on, that's for sure! Elveira (our group's tour guide) and I were in the back and laughing so hard, it almost hurt! We were ready to party! We were told this was to be a night ... read more

Ok everyone, I'm back! I can see that our time in Dubai is going to be a 4-parter as far as the blog is concerned! What a day we've had today!!! It was essentially a "free" day for us, to relax or do whatever we pleased. So many options, so many choices.......at first I was going to go to the infamous Emeriates Mall, where there is an indoor ski resort. That was the plan! But, plans change. I then had an invitation to join a group who were heading to the famous Burj Al Arab hotel for lunch! Bingo!!! Count me in. This is a once in a lifetime chance to have this 7* experience, so I'm going! Yes, of course, I gave my head a shake.........for a minute......$137US for a lunch! Puleese!!!!! But when will ... read more

Hi everyone, We arrived from India this afternoon. Another adventure! This one is going to be amazing, I am sure. We left our hotel in Inida yesterday morning and headed for the airport, with fingers crossed that it wouldn't be too terribly busy. We were lucky and moved right on through the airport and on to our plane with no delays whatsoever. Whew! Bye bye India! The crew looked gorgeous again, as they had been shopping and bought saris (spelling?). They are not only an attractive crew, but professional, helpful, happy and lots of fun! It will be difficult to say good-bye at the end of this tour. With a bit of a delay on the tarmac at India, we were off and on our way. It was a pleasant flight. Many people took advantage of ... read more

Yippee !! Flying Emirates I have always wanted to fly Emirates and now I have and a mighty fine flight it was too. You get loads of space to watch movies, play games like Tetris and solitire etc and you can even watch the plane taking off and have a look at what you are flying over- it’s great. I decided to watch something light hearted so i picked Mary Poppins and Mark choose The Da Vinci Code. We got out all our stuff like books, journals and games and we did not touch them once. The meals were fantastic 5 courses none the less smoked salmon, salad, chicken curry, rice, chocolate desert and cheese and biscuits. Time just flew by and we we’re soon at Dubai Airport. We got off for a bit and looked ... read more
