Me and Ben "posing"
I really thought this was a statue at first! Hi Mom!!!! Do you know where your daughter was last night????????.......riding a camel in the desert, for heaven's sake!!!!!!!
So we got back to the hotel after our magnificent lunch and just had time to download some pictures (my card was full, again!), get changed and back down to the lobby. There were 24 jeeps rented, to take us to dinner in the desert. The down side is that it was already dark again so I couldn't get photos of the jeeps racing through the sand dunes. I can tell you that it was "a ride" though! I was hanging on, that's for sure! Elveira (our group's tour guide) and I were in the back and laughing so hard, it almost hurt! We were ready to party! We were told this was to be a night to remember, and it was all that and more!
We arrived at our destination. We are in the middle of the desert! There's a bonfire, tents are set up everywhere, we are greeted by the most beautiful and helpful staff, a barbeque is under way, music is playing. Wow. Wow. Wow! This trip just keeps getting better and better!
Heading to the
A little tea
And it was yummy! barbeque area, I spotted a camel. I thought it was a statue and asked someone to take my picture! What was I thinking???????? It was the REAL deal! Ben hopped on right away and so did I, just for the photo opportunity. I wasn't going much further than that because I was somewhat, .......well.........sckeered! So I got the picture, headed to a tent, and then..........nothing but verbal abuse from all of my friends.........the sisters (Lynn and Lorraine, Leona, Anne, Tina, Bonnie, Tom, Gail, Kevin, Tim, Lynn, and many more.) Geez! What's a gal to do!!!!!????? Oh, I know........have a few glasses of wine..........feel the fear, and then do it anyway! So it was back to the camel action I went, with my hero Tom coming along with me! Ben was right there with the camera, not wanting to miss any (unflattering and funny) photo!
What an adventure!!!! Holy crap! I asked for the oldest, slowest, happiest camel they had!!! They laughed. Up we went. What a weird feeling (Jeff, I was thinking back to your pictures of Egypt when you showed me that you had taken a camel ride. I figured if Jeff can do it, I can do
Me and my friends
Aren't the tents colorful! it! And I did! I wanted my grand-kids and nieces and nephews to be proud of me, and to think I was a cool Granny Pat!) Besides, I had promised myself that, on this trip, I was going to do it all!!! So I am grateful for all the abuse from my friends because I would have been sorry if I did not take the camel ride! What fun!
Then, it was back to the tents. Dinner was outstanding!!!!! There was food everywhere. Skipping dessert is easy for me here because there is no chocolate anywhere. Creme brulee is one of their favorites and while I've tried little tastes here and there, it's not chocolate. Thank goodness. The lamb was to die for!
Now the musicians are warming up. We move to the dance floor area where there are cushions all around. Elveira and I settle in for a fun show! And look at the belly dancer, arriving by camel! She is beautiful, talented, skilled and........oh my God, she was coming my way! I must have had "sucker" on my forehead because I was the "chosen" volunteer! Oh wel, I've had a few glasses of wine by now,
so.......why not????!!!! Up I go and away we go. I get the blue scarf tied around my waist and get a few belly dancing lessons (I have the belly, so I might as well use it! ha ha ha) Unfortunately, no one could figure out how to use my camera while I was making a fool of myself. Perhaps that was fate! Others got lots of pictures and I am sure they will e-mail a few to me so I can share them with you. It was so much fun, and hard work too! I go to sit down and relax a bit and then, before I know it, she's back at me! Up again I go. I must just look like a fun person, that's all I can say!!!!! The evening was filled with laughter and fun.
So, we're walking back to the jeeps to leave and Elveira speaks the famous quote for the day: "Good thing we don't have too many lates this night!" (Ha........the crowd breaks into a roar) We all enjoyed the food, wine, music and dance. We settle into the jeep and he steps on the gas........it's like driving in heavy snow, you just
Getting a little help
These guys must be laughing inside gotta put your pedal to the metal! Whew. Back to the hotel, back on the blog (which many of you have already read) and off to bed! Life is good!
Wish you could all experience a night like this! Now I feel like an Arabian Princess (if there is such a thing!). And yes, Diann, we see women all around here. They are dressed from typical Western attire to the full burka. Very interesting!
Well, gotta go and hop in the shower. We leave on a city tour in 2 hours and I'll be back here later. Enjoy the blog! I hope the energy, enthusiasm, fun and laughter come through in some of the pictures!
Happy Pat
