Although we were geographical “right next door”, it took us 2 days to reach Bodrum, Turkey, via ferry from Sifnos Island to Siros Island to Kos Island to Bodrum. We thought island hopping our way there would be fun and since the ferries traveled at night, we could save some money on accommodations. At 3 PM, we rode our scooter down to the Sifnos dock and turned it in, a little worse for wear. We had several hours to waste before the 7 PM ferry to Siros so we sat in an internet café and watched the restaurant owners bring in their umbrellas as the wind swiftly began to pick up. The three weeks we spent on Sifnos had been beautiful with blue skies the whole time, so we joked about the approaching storm and how ... read more

heading further down the West coast I got to a place called Selcuk, which has some old Roman ruins near by in Efes(Ephesus). they were great, and I haven't been to Rome yet so it was nice to get a taste for Roman Architecture. then I cut across through the centre of the country to a place called Pamukkale which was fantastic! they have something in the ground that causes a white sulphur deposit to spill out over the land and it's formed some natural pools. nice to check out more small town Turkey too, the kids here are so cute!... read more

Turkey is the first Muslim country that I've been to, and so far I like it. I think they've still got a bit of work to do before they'll be a part of the EU, but there are a lot of cool things to do and see here for sure. 2weeks wasn't nearly enough time for a decent look around, but I saw quite a lot and got out of there with out buying a carpet so I did allright. I started off with a few days in Istanbul, then headed over to the West to check out Gallipoli and all the ANZAC stuff. I really enjoyed that, and even got picked up by a couple of Turkish guys who showed me all the spots, bought me a t-shirt, drove me back to Gallipoli and bought ... read more

Greetings from Turkey! This time Carla is hosting me through her cruise in the Mediteranian. Starting in Istanbul, we see many things such as the famous Hagia Sofia and Blue Mosque. Crossing on a ferry across the Bosphorus Strait, which defines the edge of two continents of Asia and Europe. The journey continues on to Ephesus (the Library of Celsus) and Izmir (the House of Virgin Mary), and tomorrow we will head out to Greece. The Santorini Island, to be exact. I will update you with my pictures once we reach the beautiful island. Meanwhile, enjoy the pics.... read more

Call me Marty, Mettin or Maumtez. Yes, this is a bike riding trip through the beating heart of the Middle East to unknowns of Central Asia and onto the motherland of Russia. I hope you enjoy reading, or are at best indifferent, to this oft poorly planned and somewhat misguided adventure of two semi litterate, fiendishly attractive middle twenties Aussie males, one of which has a penchant for absorbingly long sentances broken only by commas; and the occasional semi-colon. But my trip started long before this bike ride. It started in Istanbul on a warm day in the middle of september 2006. Istanbul grandest of citıes that bridges Europe and Asia in a malestrom of people (16 million, of which 15 million have a carpet store), ancient mosques, grand architecture and by gum, many many good ... read more

Ahh Turkey.. The land of apple tea, beautiful coastlines, friendly locals, GREAT food and many adventures. Kate and I arrive in Istanbul at midnight the day after all the bombings, much to our friends and families dismay. We spent the first two days in Istanbul seeing everything we could - the Blue Mosque, Aya Sofya, Topkapi Palace, the Islamic Art and Culture Museum, the Basilica Cistern, taking a cruise along the Bosphorus, Grand Bizzare Spice Bizarre and Taksim... great city. We were feeling a little unsettled though and decided to head down the coast. First stop was Cannakale/Eceabat and Galliopoli After our first of many overnight buses we arrived in Cannakale at 5:30am, only to realise we should've gotten off on the other side the dardenelles.. so back over the river it was. We booked a ... read more

Wow, what a week its been! We crossed the border from Syria into Turkey (eventually after a about a three hour wait!). Joy was EXTREMELY relieved to have survived the middle east and to have returned to a relatively "normal" country, where the toilets, food and shops are much more like at home. First stop in Turkey was Capadocia , the strange landscape that looks like another planet!! We spent 3 nights sleeping in a cave at a caravan park. The rock in the Capadocia area is so soft that caves can be created using just hand tools, and the locals have built cave houses for 1000's of years. Many of the houses are several stories built into the cliff faces with internal stairways. We spent a full day touring the area including some climbs to ... read more

In Romania we say that you can't say you went to Turkey unless you've seen Antalya. The city is huge, situated somewhere in the south of Turkey. I went there with Ann from USA, Ewa from Poland and Mohamed from Tunisia. The trip took 8 hours by bus (during the night)..we didn't sleep at all and the sunrise was amazing... First impression: mountains in the sea and large stones on the beach! Some AIESECers picked us up from the bus station at 7 am and took us to a hotel. We had to wait for the others to arrive from other cities and have breakfast. So we decided to go on the beach. The morning was cool, the water warm and the stones..well...rocky! Hehehehe..but I must admit that the view was amazing! It was the first ... read more
