Enjoy yourself!! Sochi is the Lycra and silicone trim of the Russian machine. Unfortunately, Russians seem to have got a little err.. overly flamboyant and possibly a little rebellious at this stage of the creation.. rules are broken left right and centre as these wonderful finishing materials are paired with body hair, wrinkles, fat, and poorly disguised penises. Russians don't do the beach well! I've had a cold for the last few days and haven't really been in the mood for the beach, but let's just say - If i was, I'd find somewhere other than Sochi to go. Too many people, too much make believe, & not enough beach. I did make sure I went for a swim in the Black Sea though - for the record it's warm, a little salty, and mostly stoney.. ... read more

FINALMENTE TURCHIA!

With both of us now at the same camp in Iraq, it meant we could travel through Kuwait together, thus eliminating the problem of “meeting up” at the airport in Dubai. Our time in Kuwait had its ups and downs; we’ll start with the ups. The accommodations the company provides are nice and we shared a large room with bathroom. We had a nice dinner and visit with Midge, our favorite Aussie & friend who currently resides in Kuwait. We also enjoyed an evening with Craig; a fellow Oregonian and all around good guy. He works at the embassy and treated us to a few wet, ice-cold Newcastle beers in what is otherwise a very dry country. Now for the downs: We had planned on visiting the Indian Embassy in Kuwait to obtain visas for a ... read more

Istanbul was a city of great contrasts. You could stay in modern expensive western style hotels, then go to the souk and buy a cup of leaches for whatever blood-letting needs you may have. The history is staggering and I can't do it any justice. For this reason there are a ton of sites to visit. I personally limited my run around and took things slow (like always.) During this trip I can also say that I first stepped foot in Asia. I can now say I've been to North America, Central America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. Only South America, Australia, and Antarctica left! I'll have to save those for another trip I suppose. I leave you with some pictures....... read more

now this is a special place! a volcanic region, sort of in the middle of Turkey, and land has been sculptured over the years by layers of fallen volcanic ash and rock, and valleys where the waters have eroded it. truely an amazing place, and I think my favorite part of Turkey that I got to see. I also met some really cool people there which made it even better so I went out on a high note for sure. sorry my photos are looking pretty average these days too, my camera is starting to die on me and it's hard work to get a decent photo out of it these days. hopefully it'll last till Christmas when Santaruss might get me a new one... read more

Turkey is a country that completely captivated my soul and stimulated my senses. Out of the some odd 25 foreign countries that I have been to in my life, Turkey is by far and away my favorite. Within its borders lie everything a traveler could want. The west is full of beautiful beaches, amazing archaeological sites, and plenty of opportunities to party the night away. As you cross over to the eastern part of the country you discover an undiscovered treasure full of a very rich and exotic middle eastern culture (Turkey boarders Syria, Iraq, and Iran). However, the area is void of any type of tourism and tourist leaving the culture and daily interactions real and the traveling a true experience. I have never had such an authentic experience . . . i was seeing ... read more

Very calm and uneventful hour and a ½ ferry ride... arriving in Turkey at about 10.30ish... Very excited as we saw the turkish looking landscape and structures appear ýnfront of us, only to arrive in Kusadaki to be in for a bit of a shock... We were met by a guy from the place we'd half thought about staying at - Goldern Bed Pension, to be escourted by his nephew to our room (We dont ... read more
