Res je, bajte ... read more

Monday Sarah and I enjoyed a wonderfully hot day in London. We did the open top bus tour, which was really good. The guides were really informative and I learned a lot about the city and the buildings. Over the course of the day we had three different live guides, there are buses with pre-tapped audio but we liked the live guide so we stayed on those buses. Some of them were really good and entertaining. I really liked the older British man who really enjoyed his job. He had the most interesting stories about the city, and he talked a lot about Harry Potter. Where the actors went to school and currently do live performances. It was a hop-on hop-off bus, which was really nice as you can get off and see more in detail ... read more

Just a quick update.... We made our way into Greece sucessfully and managed to get to the camp on the very confusing greek trains with the help of a few very nice locals! We are now at our camp right by the water, we can here the waves on the beach from our tents. There is alot of work to be down around camp, washing, setting up, cutting bamboo, marking out the beach, preparing grids and soon we will be starting morning and night surveys wher we will walk the beaches and in morning survey watch for turtle tracks and nests. On night survey we will be taking measurements of the turltes and tagging them if they have not been already. There are mountains around us and the water is turquoise blue. The food here is ... read more

Budapest is an interesting city. It actually is two towns one named pest and one named buda that were on different sides of the Danube river.. and eventually they joined together to make one town... hense.. Budapest. Of the two areas, I think Pest is probably the nicer part. It has the central downtown core with all the nice little squares and the nice old buildings and such, and is a little livelier than Buda seemed to be. The hotel that my mum and I stayed at was not bad. It was on the Buda side, but it was right near castle hill, and basically inches away from the metro station, when we were too lazy to walk anywhere. There was only one problem with it, and that was at the restaurant in the hotel. We ... read more

We got the 4 p.m. high speed train (called a TGV train) out of Brussels to Lyon Wednesday. I didn't think our pass would cover the entire cost of the high speed trains, but luckily I was wrong. Don't mind making a happy mistake once in a while. The only thing we had to pay was a €3 reservation fee for each ticket. It was overbooked, though, and only one ticket had a seat number. The other was for what amounted to standing-room-only in between cars. Jay lost the coin toss and got stuck there. Next time, I think he wants to do best-of-three Rock Paper Scissors. He's better at that than me. The train made several stops on the way to Lyon, so the fact that Jay couldn't have a seat was probably due to ... read more

Well, its been too long. No WiFi at the current accommodation means this one's on the run cause $8 Euro per hour is really pushing the holiday budget. Where did I leave off...mmmm... thats right... we were leaving Berlin to head to Leipzig & Dresden. Well as it turns out we spent an extra day in Berlin & then decided to skip L&D for more time in the Czech Republic... but before I cover the finer details of eastern European culture I shall pick up from that lovely Spring time weather in Berlin. After such a fantastic free bike riding tour we thought it wise to go with the same company for a day trip to Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp. We were not disappointed - the tour guide Desiree, is a native German and had us all ... read more

Blogging from May 3-10th, 2008 For my last week, I set out for the Scottish Highlands to join up with Trees For Life, a non-profit organization I’ve been fond of since the (no name) Art Group Candle Project 2004 (our environmental beneficiary). They are also the organization from whom I’ve purchased many little tree gifts from. Volunteering with TFL would be an opportunity to do something a little different, working with the earth instead of people. Gettin dirty and doing something out of my comfort zone keeps it all interesting. About Trees For Life: Trees for life is an award-winning Scottish charity working to restore the Caledonian Forest to 600 square miles of the Highlands west of Inverness. The distinctive Caledonian Forest community, dominated by Scots pine, is substantially depleted and fragmented. Only 1% of the ... read more

Hello Everyone....this wont be a very long entry but I wanted to update you all. I am about to run out of internet so just a quick note. Prague is very interesting. I went down to the pub in the hostel last night and met lots of people from all over the world! We played Apples to Apples which was very funny because there were only 2 Americans and the game is in English....native speakers kinda of understood more of what was going on. After drinking a couple of beers we all decided to head out and go to a club. A guy from Denmark has been here a couple of times and said he knew of a good club. This club plays 80s music...interesting right? It wasn't the better 80s songs it was the cheasy ... read more

It has been an eventful few days. We have walked up substantial hills, and then back down the other side of others. It has been rainy, sunny and overall just wonderful. But there have been moments when I realized that at least I had lost the focus of why I was here. Surrounded by friends, it is also easy to forget that we are on a pilgrimage. Up until now, the notion of pilgrimage has been of a much more technical nature. Heck, I have four different kinds of socks with me after receiving four different kinds of advice - 100% wool, for dryness, 70% wool and 30% technical fibers for a mix of benefits, technical socks of nothing but odd silver-studded material for wicking, and one pair that was a gift of unknown origin. Europe » Italy » Tuscany » Pisa May 24th 2008

The weather looked a bit rough, so we grabbed the car and drove 120km down to Pisa. Checked out the tower etc. (Decided it wasn’t worth - A$50!!!! - to go to the top), then had some Pizza, and browse of the market stalls, and drove back to Monterosso by mid afternoon. By this stage the weather was great in Monterosso, so we put on the bathers, got a ‘ticket’ for our hotels section of the beach, and settled in for a couple of hours on lounges on the beach. A walk around the shops of Monterosso, and then a fantastic dinner at a pretty fancy seafood restaurant on the beach pretty much finshed off our Cinque Terre visit perfectly. Got up this morning (Late-ish again!) had a browse through market stalls that had sprung up ... read more
