25km - Blakey to Grosmont via Glaisdale - The best full English breakfast we've ever had, it was worth waiting for the pub to open, and we set off for Glaisdale, the country of hobs and goblins. I can hardly believe we are due to arrive in Robin hood's bay tomorrow, I know it's not a mutually shared feeling and Ying will be quite happy to arrive, but I found these 11 days went far too quick, yet my life in London seems to belong to another time... I think I start walking more slowly to make these last two days last longer. Grosmont is a lovely village, with an old-fashioned train station and steam trains, it feels like we've arrived in a doll house. Night life in Grosmont is all happening at the local pub, ... read more

Hello I have just spend a day hiking in Fort William and it was amazing. The staff at the Fort William Backpacker are great, the were able to supply me with suggestions, maps and were just fun to hang out with. I had intended to climb Ben Neveress, the largest mountian in the UK at around 4500 ft, but due to the thick fog that crept up in the morning I decided to do something less life threatening. I hiked up to the Steel falls, which were breath taking and a pleasent 7 hour round trip hike. I then jumped back onto the MacBackpackers bus to head to Oban, where I enjoyed my last real night in Scotland and went to the pub and had some snakebites, which are half lager beer, half hard apple cider ... read more

Hi again. This is all we have of London so far. We have been to a lot of places, but mostly at night time, so don't have many digital shots. We have also been trying to go to a few parks (which are free), while we are looking for jobs, so it doesn't cost us too much money. We have been to Kensington Gardens, Hyde Park, Buckingham Palace & Trafalgar Square (all not pictured, so I will have to get back there), as well as Tower Bridge, the Tower of London (where they used to execute people) & the Royal Albert Hall. Will take more pictures another time, but this is it for now, plus a few shots of one of the hostels we stayed in, as well as the public transport around here. Will send ... read more

I took the MacBackpackers bus from Inverness to Kyleakin on the Isle of Skye and yesterday was able to bag my first Munro. For anyone who doesn't know what a munro is, it is any mountian in Scotland that is over 3000 ft. in height. I first took a bus to the Cuillin mountian ranges, which were beautiful. There are the red Cuilins, which are capped with red granit and the black Cuilins, which are capped with black granit. The scenery was amazing. I first hiked up the Marsco, a 736 m hill. Since it was such a nice day and such a great view I decided to hike across the vally and climb the Bla Bheinn, a 928 m hill which was a spectacular view since it was a rare sunny day in Scotland. Although ... read more

Day 6 - Manchester (If your not a Manc, your a Wank!) London was great. I met a lot of cool people, a few who are doing the same thing i am...in a way. This one guy has been traveling for 2 years now, having already gone to Spain and South Africa. Going back to Spain for a year and then on to Greece. They move to a country for 6 months to a year, get a job teaching English or working in a hostel, and travel. What a life.I learned a lot about the Brits. Friendly and courteous, but they also tend to mind their own business. In a rush to catch the "Tube" or just walking to work, earphones glued to their ears, hardly any of them made any eye contact. I saw many ... read more

Scotland is picturesque. Edinburgh (pronounced edin - braugh) is the capital city. Green valleys line the countryside. Old architecture dominates the city. the street is swarming with people and shops. and what can i say about the women, Scottish women are amazing. i think i tweaked my neck from lookin around too much. I walked around for hours, taking in the fresh air, the bagpipe melodies, and ancient buildings. you thought armani suits were expensive, try £700 (about $1260) for a skirt...i mean kilt. I didnt go out, too exhausted. my average wake up time is about 6am. Well on to Dublin, and the hell out of the UK. The £ is killing me.... read more

27km - Ingleby Cross to Blakey - Fantastic day, the weather has cleared, and we enter the North York Moors with some amazing sceneries, boulders to climb and forests to cross. We even stumble across a hidden gem, the Lord's Stone Cafe where we stop for tea just before noon. After Ura Moor (the highest point in North Yorkshire), it a broad track to rejoin the former Rosedale Railway and it's basically 8km of following the track bed all the way to Blakey, the longest 8 km in my life. When finally the lion inn emerges in the distance it looks like an oasis in the distance, and I am not sure it won't disappear again... But we eventually get there, and meet up with a bunch of other walkers around dinner, John, Tom and Liz, ... read more
