I am still in the process of preparing my trip. There are 5 whole days left now, and two of those will be in work, probably discussing (See: bragging) to my friends and colleagues how much I am looking forward to going there. I know there are people who think that this idea is very superficial, and I'm not naming any names, but mum you are wrong ;) I guess my idea to travel the world would be best started on a cheaper, easier and safer place such as New York, Boston and DC. I say safer, but I know that there are people out there who want something for nothing and aren't afraid to use violence to get it, but this happens everywhere. The only real safe place I know would be my own home ... read more

And today Haley learns an important lesson about the Irish pronunciation of "1:35". It is, in fact, very similar to the American pronunciation of "1:45". ... yeah, I totally just missed my bus. Just so you know. It does actually still have my backpack on it. No worries, though... I guess it's a common thing? They telephoned the bus driver and he's going to leave it at the Inspector's Office of the Cork bus station for me, and I'll grab it when I change buses to Youghal (pronounced "YAWL". As about 50 people helpfully pointed out to me.) Anyway, things are still going swimmingly.. other than that silly little misunderstanding with the bus times and all that. In my defence, at 1:35 I was in the process of helping two blind women into the bathroom. ... read more

Wouldn't it be nice to live in a place so rich in history that every mountain, every loch (lake), every field, and every glen (valley) seem to beg for their stories to be told? Stories of giants, warriors, maidens, and wee brunies and faeries that capture your imagination; stories of murder, betrayal, and love for the country that can be poignant, and heart wrenching, as well as stories that tickle your funny bone. Wouldn't it be nice to live in a place that is so breathtakingly beautiful to be there feels like a guilty pleasure worse than eating the best Belgian chocolate? Wouldn't it be nice to live among people who are proud of who they are, proud of their history and heritage and it shows in every perfect town, in every perfect village, and in ... read more

Well we made it! The flight over was very long, and the seats on the plane were fairly small, making it hard to get comfortable or sleep. We had a little delay in Frankfurt which seemed at the time to be a lot longer than it actually was. Once in London we sailed easily through customs, and hopped in a cab and made our way to Willesden Green. The area seems nice, and has a very diverse population, which is fun. Our Flat. Our Flat is essentially a small detatched shed in the back garden of a row house. The shed is almost nice. It is very quiet because it is surrounded by other backyards, and we can hear birds, and not much else. The main problem with the Flat is that it is very moldy ... read more

Here is a basic rundown of whats the goings-on. We (Judd, Dhiresh, Joel and myself) stayed back this weekend to hang around London: we went up the London Eye and spent a few hours in the Tate Modern. We were also going to check out Westminster Abbey, but that cost £8, so we scratched that. St. Paul's Cathedral was pretty cool as well, but we didn't get much time in there. The Tate, despite being really really messed up and having a lot of crazy crap for art, was pretty sweet since it was so different (and free), and because it was so strange to see piles of bricks called art, or a glass of water on a shelf high on a wall called "An Oak Tree," with a small interview with the 'artist' about how ... read more

As you might know, I have undertaken to complete a large trip and do what I have always dreamed to do: take the time to travel at a leisurely pace, avoiding planes as much as possible. My trip will take me about 5 months. For weeks now, I have suffered a worrying collection of jabs with the most interesting side effects; my passport is full of stamps and visas; my bag full of guide books and medical kit and my mind full of potential mischief which will be adequately turned into exciting adventures to be told as after dinner stories. This is, of course, provided that I shall return. Today is the big day, the day I have been maniacally preparing for: I am officially leaving on my trip. My mother is very kindly taking me ... read more

Took a trip to Lord's Cricket Grounds with my team from work. I seriously wasn't going to go because I am not interested in cricket! I couldn't even give you a name of a player if I wanted to, but I thought I would check it out to see what the fuss was about. I guess having worked for an Architect's Firm for nearly 5 years, I have started appreciating buildings and details more, and I have to say, I quite enjoyed the tour and wouldn't of minded watching a game just to see!!! Maybe one day, but I won't be lining up for tickets!!!... read more

Well, today after a 15 hour trip over we decided it would be fun to get up at 4am (don't really know what we were thinking, probably jet lag) to go and try and get tickets for the first day of the Wimbledon tournament. It turns out that we have the patience of saints! (actually I learned I have the patience I always knew Michael had it, after all he puts up with me). After a bus and two trains, we got to the grounds to be given our "queue" numbers, for our American friends this means a line, a very long line. We were given #'s 863 to 865. While I was counting our blessings since I thought this was a very good small number, little did we know that there was another one of ... read more

Hello Everyone! Well, this is going to be my last post from Edinburgh. We are heading out to Glasgow tomorrow for the U2 concert, then Wed. we are taking a train down to Newcastle and flying out to Geneva. We finally have all of our travel plans set, which is a relief. We have done really well and have accommodation booked in all our destination cities and also have train times figured out. It’s been great having a computer in our flat. I can’t imagine us trekking over to the library to do all this planning. So, a rough sketch of what we’ve planned is: 2 days Geneva, Switzerland 2 days Interlaken, Switzerland 2 days Lucerne, Switzerland We are then meeting up with Tom’s parents in Copenhagen, Denmark to go on a 12 day cruise!! The ... read more
