I have figured out how to upload pictures so that's mostly what this entry will be...it'll take me a while to get them all loaded on here and by then, I'll be out of time. There has been one new development though and it is that I am moving!!!!! I met with a girl called Claire last night after I got home from London and I think it's going to work out alright. I'll have my own room with shared use of the lounge, kitchen, and bath. Still just a bathtub, but at least it has the little attachment for a shower head. Very exciting, indeed! I'll move and be in 1 October. Yea! I also have a temporary mobile phone that one of the women I work with lent me (it used to be her ... read more

This morning Graham and I got up early and joined a large group from our residence hall in a hike up Arthur's Seat. This is one of the mail hills overlooking the city, scituated at the bottom of the Royal Mile near the Scottish Parliament building. I do not have much experience when it comes to "hill climbing," but it seems to be a big pasttime here in Scotland, so I was excited about the opportunity to experience it. I thought I was going to die. I am in pretty good shape -- but this was insanity. Graham seemed to be enjoying it though. The early part of the hike was nothing -- it actually took us all the way down the Royal Mile. But as we approached the hill, I looked at the peak from ... read more

Today we went to Shakespeare’s Globe bringing Meaghan along with us. We stood as groundlings and watched A Winter’s Tale with a mixed gender cast. (It would be very interesting to watch an all male cast play at the Globe….a truly Elizabethan play and actors). It was really good although hard to catch on to Shakespeare’s language at first. It didn’t rain during the performance either which was greatly appreciated as well as the afternoon showing not being sold out, so as not to be over crowded in the pit. After the play we went to get some food, walking all over the place to find something at 4pm when dinner usually isn’t served until 5pm especially on a Sunday (I’m kind of assuming this but it would make sense, right?) We walked over the Thames ... read more

Motorhome News from Europe 36 Orkney 13th September Orkney - Isles of History The morning sun shone in greeting as we approached the grey exterior of Kirkwall, Orkney’s capital. But once inside the town we were stunned by an unexpected air of affluence. The red sandstone Cathedral of St Magnus stands proudly above Broad Street, bright with hanging baskets on smart Victorian buildings and elegant modern shops. Shrubs, trees and flowers adorn the town’s gardens and mature sycamores surround the ruins of the Earl’s Palace behind the Cathedral. The shops portray immediate evidence of Orkney’s successful craft tradition; it is famed for its jewellery, knitwear, glass, art and textiles. At first sight, the mainland of Orkney is a green continuation of the shining sea, with broad fertile pastures, cows and sheep and fields of barley rising ... read more

We drove all the way up to the Isle of Skye and unfortunately we had to drive all the way back down to London.... in one day. We woke up and said goodbye to Moraig the B & B owner and left but not before I climbed one last hill and said goodbye to all the sheep. We drove to Loch Ness to see if there was indeed a monster. We found plenty of fake plastic ones on keychains but none in the water though we did see some interesting castles. After Loch Ness we went to Iverness to see about some train tickets and I introduced my family to Argos (they love it too, why don't we have thes in America??). After cancelling the train tickets we made our way straight back down to London ... read more

Well the other day I had to put more of a structure to my itinerary as my doctor wanted to inject me with loads of meds and vaccines. Not a big fan of the needles and stuff but I spose a man's got to do and all that jazz. So here is the list of the countries I intend to visit on my first leg of my round the world travel plans (in no particular order). Australia New Zealand Indonesia Borneo Thailand China Japan Phillipines Malaysia Singapore Cook Islands Papua New Guinea That should keep me entertained for a year or two ;) Still waiting on my visa from Australia though so getting anxious now that may not be able to set off in October when I attended. Will keep you posted Hambo... read more

Hard, to believe but Scotland is already behind me. In London at the Park Lane now. I had dinner last night with my dear friends Bill and Muriel Kyle. I think I overwhelmed them with my chattiness since I hadn't had a proper face-to-face discussion in 8 days! Heading out to Essex this afternoon to see four generations of the Kyle clan today. Very excited to see Bill's parents - the coolest 80 year olds in the world. And, Muriel's Mum too. She just lost her husband of 59 (!!!) years about a month ago. I'll report on the Essex journey in a future blog. Interestingly, Judy and I were here a year ago this weekend for Helen Kyle's wedding. Beautiful wedding in a centuries old hotel. Then, I got in a fight in a pub ... read more

Wellll I havent updated because i have too much to say, and I don't have time to write it all down. In fact, I've been quite sick but just too busy and excited to feel it or even care. Lets just go through the interesting things. Thursday we left for London and went to see pericles at the Globe Theatre. It was awesommeee. Although it wasn't the traditional performance, it was still very good. The whole atmosphere was sooo cool. It was mainly kids my age from everywhere that just wanteed to hear some Shakespeare. Everyone was leaning on the stage and drawn in like the couldn't get close enough to the action. I had seats in the gallery, but I stood in the yard closer to the stage because that's the way it should be ... read more

We are using Bath as a place to stay while we explore SW England. First day: Stonehenge - did you know they have reconstructed Stonehenge as it originally was 5000 years ago? We took photographic proof! Seriously, the trip to Stonehenge was a highlight of the trip and something we had been looking forward to. We learned a lot. One thing for me was that these gigantic stones were put together with mortise and tenon joints, you can still see a rounded tenon on one of the upright stones. I had no idea. Unfortunately, it wasn't until we left the area, I read that Avebury, a nearby village is even larger, with older stones and you can walk among them as they are part of the village "structure". We did visit Devizes - crop circle country ... read more

Most everyone departed this morning but 3 of us stayed behind to explore a bit (Meaghan Molloy, Taylor and I). We didn’t do much today because we waited around half the day for Maggie to show up and bring Taylor’s key card back….in the end Taylor will just have to pay 5 pounds for it. Oh well. Later in the day we checked out Shakespeare’s Globe and the Thames Festival. We tried to get tickets to the Globe but they were sold out so we got groundling tickets for Sunday afternoon at 1pm. We also went to about every electronics store to find the correct adapter for Taylor’s computer….word to the wise: make sure that your adapter WILL work in the UK for your computer so you don’t spend twice as much money on something that ... read more
