Tuesday 25 July 2023, at rest day at Marloes. When Jo was planning for this coastal walk she thought we would spend today seeing the Puffins. So we booked today as a non walking day for the boat ride to Skomer Island. As we got more info she thought the puffins might be gone by this time in July so we went shortly after arriving in Tenby. The day was sunny and we explored the area and had lunch at Runwayskiln kiosk. Photos of the Clock House our BnB, and the lunch spot. Our evening meal was again at the Lobster Pot. Logistics of contacting taxi transfers, Roch Castle estimated arrival and transfers from the castle to dinner were afternoon agenda items. It is very convenient having Google Fi cell phone service since I am connected ... read more

Monday, 24 July 2023, Happy birthday Charity. Day 9 of the walk. Alltrails app: 3 hours 35 minutes walking. 8.41 miles. 1030 feet elevation gain. Today Gary's new Garmin watch and my alltrails app tracked the same data. Garmin forerunner 25. 3 hours 56 minutes walking. 8.36 miles. 751 elevation gain. This is our last day with our shuttle taxi driver Michael. I wrote a note and we all contributed to a nice gratuity for him. He sent a very sweet thank you text. At 0900 he picked us up for the 20 minute ride back to Dale where he had picked us up last night. We bid farewell to the Ty Hotel. It has been a nice stay. Meals a bit on the expensive side. Tonight Chuck and I are in the Clock House in ... read more

Sunday 23 July 2023, day 8 of the walk. From Milford Haven to Dale. Alltrails app: 5 hours 6 minutes walking. 10.8 miles. 922 feet elevation gain Garmin forerunner 25. 5 hours 6 minutes walking. 10.76 miles. 750 feet elevation gain. We started walking at 1120 and arrived in Dale at 1655. Today we have two tidal inlets; one at Sandy Haven with low tide at 1628 and the other at Musselwick Sands with the same low tide. These were about five miles apart. Making the low tide crossings saved 6 miles of walking. Michael will pick us up at around 5 at Dale. The weather promise is no rain until 4 pm. So will try without rain pants. We were on pavement until we left the town of Milford Haven. The town is larger, about ... read more

Saturday 22 July 2023, day 7 pembrokeshire coastal path from Pembroke to Milford Haven Alltrails app: 5 hours 44 minutes walking. 12.3 miles. 1010 feet elevation gain. No Garmin data. Gary has much newer Garmin and consistently measures greater distances and elevations. We left the Coach House Hotel a couple of minutes before 0800 and walked the half mile to the start of today's walk at the Pembroke Castle. It rises above us as we walk beside the millpond and cross to the other side. It was raining steadily and wind tended to whip the water into our faces. Rain pants felt very good. We walked mainly on secondary road from Pembroke to Pembroke Dock. This ended one part of the all trails navigation and I had to connect to the next. At a market we ... read more

We had a pretty busy agenda for today. Yesterday afternoon and at dinner we all searched for a place for Chuck to buy new shoes for the walk. The soles and heels of both shoes started coming off at the end of yesterday's walk. I contacted our taxi transfer service about taking us to Tenby to a sporting goods store called Millets. Michael called to confirm that he could take Chuck and I on this round trip to Tenby. When we got back to Pembroke he would take the five of us to see St Govans Hermit Hut on the coast at the eastern edge of Castlemartin firing range. The trip to Tenby was successful. Chuck has a new pair of boots. St Govans was an interesting stone hut. He lived about 630 to 640. The ... read more

After another great breakfast at Porclew House, we bid farewell and paid for our lunches. Michael, our taxi shuttle service driver, was right on schedule for 0900 transfer to Freshwater West and the start of the days hike to Angle Bay. What looks like an artesian spring was bubbling around some rocks at the high point on the beach. Leaving the beach we started the first of about seven relatively steep up and down features of today's trail. The views of the sea ... read more

Tuesday 18 July 2023. Day 4 of the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. Alltrails app: 3 hours 12 minutes 7.47 miles. 348 feet elevation gain Started walking about 0945. Got to freshwater west about 1250. Garmin forerunner 25: 3 hours 14 minutes walking. 7.51 miles. 270 feet elevation gain. Our shuttle taxi driver for our pickups and drop offs has been great. He picked up the four of us at just past 0900. Deb elected to not go out in the rain and enjoy this lovely B&B, Yes, it is raining steadily. Forecast was for about 0.2 inches to fall at 0.01 to 0.03 inches per hour most of the day. Our call about the Castlemartin firing range indicated closed but was mostly unintelligible to us. So we searched for and found a website: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/castlemartin-firing-notice--2/castlemartin-firing-notice-july-2023 This website clearly ... read more

Garmin forerunner 25: 5 hours 21 minutes walking. 10.09 miles, 1260 feet elevation gain. Our Tenby Taxi transfer arrived at ten after 9. We got to the start of the trail where we left on Sunday afternoon for a 0945 start. The bags are out for transfer. Jeff and Lisa at Glenthorne Guest House fixed a great breakfast but not much else in the way of hospitality. No place to visit but outside or in very cramped rooms. Our good luck with weather held for another day. The walk was along the rugged coast line, up and down the valley crevices and along tree less green and harvested fields. We also attempted to call to learn if the MOD firing range was open for us to walk through. Got no answer so we assumed it was.
