St. David's...Pembrokeshire National Park St. David's Head is forged of very old volcanic rock, some of it dates back almost 500 million years! The Pembrokeshire Coastal Trail is 186 miles, we won't do all of that. After walking into town... St. David's (2miles), we visited the town market, (sampled some homemade Welsh cakes, Yum) and went to the art exhibit. On to the "Celtic Coaster Bus" to St. Justinians, the trailhead for today's hike. The Celtic Coaster Bus is wonderful... it takes one to any trailhead and then we can hike back, or if you get weary, just wait for the next little minibus. At St. Justinian's we picked up the coastal trail going back to Whitesands Beach. It is a lovely walk along the coast with magnificent views even Ramsey Island. After last nights' rain ... read more

July 2, 2008, Wednesday Brecon to St. David's in Pembrokeshire National Park, Wales Lleithyr Meadow Caravan and Camping A40 is the road we followed toward Pembrokeshire, however, it changes to A487 and got a bit narrower and eventually close to the sea... it was a path with traffic. St. David's is a "large" village, (some say it is Wales' smallest city) founded by the Welsh patron saint himself in 550, St. David. The cathedral dates back to the 7th century and was RC, then after Henry's quarrel with Rome, was the church OF England and is now the church IN Wales. Lots of folks are buried here including DAVID, however no one is sure where? St. David's is surrounded on three sides by inlets, coves, and rocky stacks(?), it is an easy base for some excellent ... read more

I got back to London last night after probably one of the best weekends of my life in terms of outdoor adventure and scenery. Rachel, Jordan, Jackie, and I went hiking, surfing, and coasteering. According to dictionary.com, coasteering is a physical activity that encompasses movement along the intertidal zone of a rocky coastline on foot or by swimming, without the aid of boats, surf boards or other craft and may include Climbing, scrambling, sea level traversing, jumping and diving. And yes, it did include all of those. We took a bus to Pembrokeshire, which is in the southwestern part of Wales, along the coast. We did all of these activities through Perseli Venture. The trip included our lodging at Perseli, homecooked food (yay!), transport from and to the bus station in Haverfordwest, and our three sessions. ... read more

This weekend we decided to venture west and visit the beautiful Pembrokshire Coastal Path. Basically they have established a 186 mile walking trail in the South West corner of Wales which hugs the coast line all the way. Being the 9-5 slaves we now are, we ventured off on Friday night, Jason catching the train from Newport to Bridgend while Kirstyn frantically purchased an entire camping get-up for the weekend! We made it across to Freshwater East a little after 8 and suprisingly managed to erect our unseen tent in the dark without too much hassle. It was great to be back out camping again enjoying some basic camp food on our new, cheap imitation trangia, as well as a drop of beer and vino! The next morning after a hearty brekkie we walked down to ... read more

Aaaarrrrgh! This time next week I'll be driving up to London for my final day in the UK for 10 months! I've spent the past few days being a complete geek- writing lists about things to do, things to pack, things to buy etc etc. I think that pretty much everything is ready, and I know that my backpack is going to be the heaviest and fullest thing EVER!!!!!!!! I know that I'm taking more clothes than I probably need, but I figure that just means I'll have to do laundry less! It's all the suntan lotion, mosquito sprays, travel guides and things like that which take up all the room (unfortunately, no room for hair straightners!) Oh well, I don't plan on actually having to carry my rucksack around very far anyway. From the hostel ... read more

Geo: 51.9932, -4.97503Still on a mission to get home by sea and we discovered if we got afternoon sailing from Fishguard the next day to Rosslare we'd have missed the last train to Dublin by 20 mins! So it was easier to head off on the 6th at 21:42 from Bristol Parkway and get the night sailing at 2.45 from Fishguard via train to Cardiff and Swansea which is another friends home town but sadly we didn't have time to stop off (cost £24 each which was amazingly good to Rosslare, all told it was 14 hours door to door but it sounds worse than it was) and we even managed a kip on the boat.... read more

Well so far it has been wonderful. Not many people around, plenty of sheep and lo and behold an absense of kids. I do come out in a bit of a rash when we drive past a school though, mind you that could be something to do with the inhospitable midges around here. I think I've discovered a new constellation up my arms. If I joined up all the spots I'm sure they'd make a good Blackpool Tower. Enough of the rambling, let me tell you what we have been up to. Our first stop was the Brecons and of course we had to climb up Pen-Y-fan. Forgot to take TC with us, Nik reacons he is scared of heights( of course he is making it up, he is building up a simmering hatred of ... read more

It was a cold long weekend and all we wanted was to see the Cheese Rolling Competition, so we decided to go to Wales for the weekend and on the way back stop in Gloucesteshire, where the competition happens every year. Wales is a beautiful country with it's beaches and quirky little villages and we had a great time. It was very interesting, to say the least, to go horse riding on the beach. The horses were old and had a big lack of motivation and when we were told to take the horses into the water the poor things really didn't feel like being wet. When we arrived at the Cheese rolling competition they had run out of cheese so Ant didn't feel it was worth to compete for no prize. It was a really ... read more
