Woolly says – with the temperatures in the middle 40’s and the bar ticking over I found myself with a daily routine again, this usually entailed a small snack upon waking, followed by a short doze on the balcony and some breakfast to keep my strength up before the short wander to the bar where I could sit and snigger at Jo as she sweated away in the kitchen preparing my lunch and a snack to keep me going until that was ready. On really hot days I found it rather pleasant to sit in the fridges or in the ice freezer allowing my tusks to cool down. It’s rather disconcerting to open a freezer and find a short furry icicled mammoth greeting you! He certainly seemed to have the life of riley….. Woolly says – ... read more

Woolly says – with a few days waiting in Aberystwyth before catching our flight home I decided that Jo would benefit from some time out and a bit of fresh air, not to mention leaving the pile of tissues that seem to follow behind us. With freshness blowing around us we wandered down the hill to the town. Having been to Aberystwyth a few times now to visit daughter Zoe for some strange reason we have managed to miss visiting the castle on each trip. First things first a snack was in order, well I mean breakfast was over an hour ago! Having tucked into a few slices of the traditional Bara Brith – not as good as Jo’s home made one – we wandered through the small streets admiring the architecture and watching the seagulls ... read more

The day that Woolly had been waiting for had finally arrived, even more exciting than Christmas itself, although we will have to wait and see about that! After six months and many many emails he was to be re-united with his bestest friend Sion. Woolly says – Even the short drive to our rendezvous seemed to take too long and as the brown and cream livery colours of the Great Western Railway line hove into view and the large sign for Severn Valley appeared I couldn’t wait to clamber out of Ollie and race into the café to see if Sion had arrived with his carers Jen and Glen. The café was incredibly busy and having grabbed a table I spent the next half an hour bouncing up and down in my seat checking out all ... read more

Obviously I've got slightly more of an issue than Sarah B. I am currently in Aberystwyth, still living in halls! So, not only have I gotta pack for the summer, I've also got to pack to move out of my house! And, as most of you will know, when it comes to packing I am the worlds best procrascinator. Well today was full of much excitement of running around and buying the last few bits and pieces for the trip. As long as I don't forget my passport it will all be fine! Well our holiday starts on Sunday when we travel to Heathrow to spend the night there. Thankfully fate has meant the Apprentice final is now on Sunday instead of when we are abroad. Could our holiday get off to a better start? I ... read more

Helo from Wales! We arrived here on Monday afternoon after a fantastic train ride via Birmingham and then to Aberystwyth where my friend Daf lives. Daf and I met in Grenada last summer on our mission trip. Throughout the countryside we saw many sheep (defaid), some even running up hill... silly sheep! As soon as you cross over into Wales the geography changes quite significantly into rolling hills and small mounts. The sky was so blue and the weather was phenomenal. At one stop an elderly gentlemen dressed complete with a brown trenchcoat and Sherlock Holmes hat boarded our car; I broke out into silent laughter as this appeared to have been out of a movie. The strangest thing was, no sooner than a couple of minutes later he was typing away on his palm pilot. ... read more

Hi Guys, Having managed to avoid being run over by the enormous number of Tipper Trucks in Ireland I'm now safely back in Blighty travelling along the beautiful coast of Wales. Although the scenery is stunning one is instantly refamaliarised with the undulating hills which can be taxing at times. The bike ride is also taking its toll on the bike. North of Aberystwyth, I suddenly noticed that my back wheel was heavily buckled and checking the spokes it turns out that 5 of them had snapped. Anyway, I ended up staying in Borth (8 miles north)of Aberystwyth for an extra day to get a new wheel. Not the most exciting of places and dreadful weather. The only thing to do was watch Chelsea get stuffed by Aston Villa in the local boozer. Further on up ... read more

Good Evening from rainy Wales, Though it has been a constant downpour since about 1 p.m. we had a fabulous morning and actually saw sun for almost 1 sustained hour. Absolutely fantastic - except it made the gray and cold that came later even grayer, by comparison. Oh well. Because there was not rain early in the day, we headed about 8 miles away to a train station - one of the 'Great Little Trains of Wales' and traveled an hour in an old narrow gauge steam engine train up the mountain. What a wonderful time we had. Then we got out at the end and walked along a beautiful forest path with gushes of water (I wonder why) and some breathtaking waterfalls. It was a lovely way to remember Wales - and Lee had a ... read more

Good Morning, Dear Family and Friends, I'm sitting in the north reading room of the National Library of Wales in the town of Abersystwyth, about 18 miles from our resort. This is a coastal town and there is blue sky over the ocean - a sky color we have not seen in 10 days. Trouble is, as it moves over land, it becomes gray and we experience rain in all its forms - drizzle, just a few drops, downpour, sheets - amazingly wet and quite chilly. The choice is to be grumpy or get on with it, and we have thrown on our jackets, put up the umbrellas, and have begun to explore this unusual and beautiful country. Lee has mastered the roads and the signs - basically drive on the left, look to your right, ... read more

Dear Friends, After a very shaky start (the car rental that we so carefully secured before we arrived) was all mixed up and ended up costing us almost 100 pounds more than the promised price (we'll deal with that later), we were on the road - the wrong side for Americans. Lee did a superb job once we figured out just how close to the lines we were on these very narrow roads. Good heavens, what a trip. Much of the 4 hours was spent on good highways, but the last hour was hairy at best. We arrived around 5:30 at this lovely resort - driving through sheep and cow and horse farms on the long windy, narrow, road to the entrance. Arrived only to find that somehow Interval International had cancelled our reservation and the ... read more
