Hey Everyone, Sorry about the confusion, we are coming back on the 17th... no changes. Yesterday we arrived here in Edinburgh, it kinda felt like coming home because this was the city we spent our first 5 days in. We were really excited about going to the Military Tattoo, and we weren't dissappointed! It was unbelievable! I won't even try to explain it on here, we'll save that until we get home, but it truely was incredible!! We're just off to catch a 9 am train to Loch Lomond - a little change in our plans since we weren't able to go to Paris, we'll be there for the next three days hiking and such. We love and miss you all!! (Even those of you in Calgary!) Alex and Tamara... read more

Hi all, We headed off to Edinburgh over the weekend with Jules and Alison to experience all that the Edinburgh Fringe Festival had to offer. Thankfully we had the luck of the Irish with us (thanks Jules) and got there and back really easily, despite the madness of airport security, cancelled flights and lost luggage going on at Heathrow at the moment. Edinburgh is such a beautiful city, set at the foot of a hill with an ancient castle on top. We spent our days wandering around the town in between shows and laughed ourselves silly at Jim Henson's Muppets, Scottish-Irish comedian Danny Bhoy, Irish Ed Byrne, theatre sports, and a kind of funny/political history lesson of England. We also caught up with Claire and Charlie which was fantastic. We finished the weekend off with a ... read more

So I managed to meet up with Casey and Nikki in Edinburgh and have had an absolutely awesome time here. Edinburgh is such a beautiful city, just like everyone told me it would be, and there is an incredible buzz in the air walking up and down the Royal Mile during this first week of the Edinburgh Festival. It's also really cool hanging out with just other girls because it turns out people like to accost you on the street with free tickets to random events and I am totally down with that. We've managed to see a couple of really good acts either for free or close to it, as well as stalk a couple of royals at the Duke of Edinburgh's big bash at Holyrood Castle and almost score Casey a job as a ... read more

Hi all..... As the name of the blog suggests - this update isn't really about physical travels as such....... Today we were at the hospital in Edinburgh where Shaz had an ultrasound scan confirming our suspicions that she is indeed well and truly 'Up the Duff'!!! 12 weeks and 4 days to be precise, with the bairn due to pop out around Valentines day 2007! As you might expect, we are absolutely delighted, and really glad to be able to share this news with you all now. It's been difficult keeping schtum for the last couple of months till we received our confirmation today (hence the lack of travel blogs - we've been maintaining a bit of a low profile). So far things are going well, the wee scan today was ace - and we had ... read more

Just when you think you have seen it all the highlands of Scotland arrive, they are just magnificent, we have traveled up the west side accross the top and are now in Edinburugh. We traveled through through the highlands in typical Scottish weather, Scotch mist they call it, just added to the atmosphere and made it more awe inspiring. By ferry we travelled to the Isle of Skye where we stayed in a hotel that was built 600 years before OZ was discovered so old are these areas, back across the land bridge and down through the highlands past where the battle of Culloden took place - very sombre scene. We were entertained at a Scottish night and Deb got to follow the piper carrying the Haggis which we all then sampled not too bad in ... read more

Yea in Scotland now aye. Mmm... been a while since last update. Spent about 6 weeks at that job in St Pauls. Was alright I guess. My boss went away for 3 of those weeks, and most of that time was spent browsing the net cause i had sweet FA to do. The boys in the office often went to the pub at lunch, which was a bloody good idea. We must bring this idea to NZ. Piss ups at lunch time! Yes! And ice cream! Me, Trav and a few of our saffa mates had a bit of a touch rugby group going for a bit which was pretty cool. We even played in the middle of a thunder storm one day, which was bloody refreashing cause it was hot as hell (well, I dunno ... read more

I haven't been using the laptop for the last couple of days. Something about advertising you have a laptop when you're in a 10 bed dorm seems like a bad idea. That 10 bed dorm was located in Stirling. An important place in Scots history - if not so important now. There are three things to do in Stirling: 1) Visit the Castle 2) Visit the Wallace Monument 3) leave. We did all of them. The castle is the only historic site I've seen where they're actually renovating. I've often wondered why they start conserving them from a certain date. It seems rather arbitrary. Today we're using it, tomorrow we're keeping it exactly the same for the rest of time. Well here they're rebuilding bits, putting up walls, replastering, making new tapestries etc. They're hoping to ... read more

I am a big fan of the Da Vinci Code book, and so after following the story through London, I had to visit Roslyn Chapel in Scotland. Claimed by the book to be one of the places they hid the holy grail, Roslyn is an amazing chapel that is unequalled in the stone carvings that adorn every part of the church. Filled with oddities and mystique, the church has seen a huge boom in tourism based on the book and subsequent movie. I dont know what the truth behind the holy grail is, but I reckon Roslyn hides a few secrets that only the original creators know. No trip to Scotland during the Edinburgh Festival would be complete without attending the military tattoo at Edinburgh Castle. Our hosts organised us tickets, and the show did not ... read more

It is hard to imagine a more amazing wedding! When 2 function coordinators plan their own wedding, no detail is overlooked. The whole day was meticulously planned, and was the most amazing day. The weather for the last few days has been cold, raining and generally nasty, however we awoke yesterday to a perfect clear sky and warm weather for Kristy and Kelsey's big day. The formalities of the ceremony were in a nice building near the centre of Edinburgh, where the vows were exchanged and the happy couple became officially married. After the service, we were led to the next secret location, the Edinbugh Castle. On a private balcony overlooking the whole of Edinbugh, we were treated to fine champagne, nibblies and haggis, all accompanied by a bagpiper. The view from the top of the ... read more

Day 120: August 3 - IRELAND - Dublin, SCOTLAND - Edinburgh Accommodation: Princes Street East Backpackers Hostel, Edinburgh Another travel day today and I was out of the hostel later in the morning than I hoped. My flight was for 1:20pm but I didn't start walking towards the airport shuttle stop until about 11:30am. What I did realise was that the bus stop was some 15 to 20 minutes' walk away, and when I arrived there were several people waiting for the bus. It wasn't until just after 12pm that a bus arrived, and when it got to the airport it was stuck in traffic behind several cars. By the time I got off the bus it was 12:30pm and I was freaking out a bit because I had 50 minutes before my plane was to ... read more
