June 21st: After yesterday's travel debacle I didn't really want to take any risks, so I set off nice and early. I don't want to get too poetic but there is something lovely about walking in England after a brief spell of rain, the air smells so sweet (apart from the car exhaust fumes). Collected my ticket and, though I was planning on staying at the station, I've popped off to subway for a quick breakfast... not too much of a risk hopefully as I plan on being back at the station 30-40 minutes before departure (famous last words). ~slightly later~ Well luckily I was organised; I got to the station and was told to go to platform 1, found that the only train going from platform 1 was to London Kings Cross (I'm going to ... read more

Goddamn passport issues. Having already wreaked havoc with earlier holidays this year to Turkey and Norway, my own passport issues had now reared their head and meant that I couldn't travel overseas on the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Weekend. Four-day weekends are oh so rare in the UK, so when they come around I would usually append a few days leave onto them for a proper trip away. Without getting into detail, I wasn't completely sure if I would be able to travel overseas for the long weekend until quite late on, so I didn't have anything organised for quite a while. Just because you can't travel overseas doesn't mean you can't have a decent holiday of course. I've said many times that I haven't done as much tra... read more

The photos say it all. Off to a jousting tornament - much more violent then we thought. Lots of broken lances and wood flying every where. The jester was very funny - very very funny. Might take it up as my next career! Then off to see Leeds lose 0-2. This aside it was a really great atmospheric game, even better then the Manchester one.... read more

So our last few days here and we begin preparing for Europe - weather is about 10, cloudy and rainy - much what we thought it would have been like the whole time we have been here. Doing research on Prague and still finding accomodation in Vienna, more reading to be done in the next couple of days. Packing involves sorting, culling, throwing and posting- not too many arguements mainly with Greg who wants to keep everything. The man at the post office knows me now! Lots of lego and soccer magazines are on their way home but the build a bear bunny - who now has PJ's is embarking on the next leg of the journey with us! We saw a horse stunt show yesterday - combining the two primary themes of our trip - ... read more

Manchester, 1 hour drive on the way to the game. 2 and a half hours returning from the game! A long day but really memorable. We parked at the stadium and walked to catch the tram in to the city, which was about a 10 minutes trip. Quite shockingly we had to walk in the shade, hot hot hot in the sun, actually broke a sweat! I think it got to about 22 and is supposed to stay like that for the next few days? though they are predicting snow this weekend in the highlands, just when we get to Scotland. In saying that temps are still drooping to freezing every night. we went to the Museum of science and industry, it's spread over 5 Huge buildings, a bit like the powerhouse in Sydney but not ... read more

Such a great feeling to be able to retreat to the Price Palace!!!! Washing all caught up on, actually used the clothes line yesterday! We saw The hunger games today, pretty long and ok. On our way home we were talking about differences between home and here. 1. People park in any direction on both sides of the road- very strange, you don't know which way cars are going. 2. People NEVER use a rubbish or garbage bin, they just drop the wrapper/rubbish on the ground - street and front yards are full of chip or chocolate wrappers. Rubbish is everywhere. 3. They don't make very good lollies, though they do GREAT chocolate 4. Their papers are AMAZING, newspapers rule in the UK. every week you get to buy one of the latest new releases for ... read more

Finally the rain, maybe sleet and snow later today, We were planning a"sloth day" today anyway. Have caught up on the washing but need to do lots of little things for the next part of the trip. Wil head out for provisions soon, mainly to feed my newspaper addiction if I lived here I would never leave the house as I would be reading newspapers the whole time. Kasey found a new pet, see photos! A bit of excitement last night with the hot water tap in the bath coming out of the wall, it's back in but dripping a lot so after talking to Dave and Clare we have called the plumber but are waiting for him to call us back.... read more

So guys, I am now back home, having finished all my exams for this semester and I will be back in Bremen in April - but for now I am travelling. So, all the way back in January I was finishing my last lectures, revising and sitting exams, and saying goodbye to most of my friends who were leaving back to their home countries. Although perhaps the partying did get a little too much....on one occasion the police even came to stop the party. At the end of January it got exceptionally cold, for three weeks it didn't reach over freezing point, with the nights reaching -20. For over a week it was -10 in the day. The river froze - but still, we didn't get any snow. On the day I left it finally warmed ... read more

Up early, breakfast then school work/diaries/technology catch up. Did my research and found the local equivalent of Warrawong westfield - but so much better and bigger. So off we set! Loved the tom tom (yes, I know even more technology.) Besides getting a mobile I wanted to check out the UK equivalent of walmart (kmart but better). Instead I found this amazing shop that was like best and less on steroids. I went nuts - well not as crazy as i would normally - who can resist 3.50 pound for two kids tshirts!!!!! I pretend they're souveners. I put a lot back, really wished Terri and Lara were here to see this! The dual shopping queens wouldn't believe it! Think i will be sending back a lot more than I thought! Luckily the shoes I loved ... read more
