Well I have been rather slack in getting the latest blog up as things have just been so busy and now it's down to a matter of weeks until I fly out of the UK and not coming back, at least not in the near future. What a wierd feeling and with the fantastic summer the UK is having, it does make me a little nostalgic. But anyway i'll back up a bit to just after Ireland when I had one of the highlights of my entire OE. As some may know, I am a huge Leeds United fan, even more so since coming to the UK, and since I have been here they have twice narrowly missed out on a promotion to a higher league, closer to where they belong. This season, they started off ... read more

This is just some of the comedy memories we wrote at the final picnic day... Mill Street Comedy • Never getting bored of playing coinage, spoons, hula hoop game • Ems comical cooking and Carls despair of it • Carl - hiding his cornflakes and loo roll • Nick, how he’d sit in his blue shorts with his breakfast in a can and the way he’d inhale his food. Also his down syndrome baby questions and foot fetish were pretty weird. • Going to Blackpool pleasure beach and being so hung-over - the southern boys getting ripped off by the street seller. Then watching Knocked up when we got home ;-) • 4 pint challenge • Heather. Generally. And how she pulled Rach on the first night. • Aoife with her ‘wee noodle on her head’. ... read more

During April and at the beginning of May I made two day trips to Durham and Newcastle. Durham My parents and Angie dropped me off in Durham on their way to Edinburgh. Durham is a wonderful historic city between Darlington and Newcastle. Durham is quite small compared to York and Edinburgh. It took me only half a day to look around the main attractions. I had a walk by the River Wear where you can look up to Durham Cathedral, the city's impressive landmark when everyone sees when arriving in the city especially by train. Then I visited the cathedral which is an impressive building. The cathedral was built from 1093 to 1274 AD and I took the opportunity to climb up the tower and got great views despite the weather being overcast. After visiting the ... read more

Since our trip was cancelled, I had some time off work although I returned earlier than scheduled. We made some day trips to Castle Howard, near York, and Quarry Bank Mill, in Cheshire and near Manchester Airport. I also made trips to Durham and Newcastle, which are in a future blog. Castle Howard My Dad dropped my Mum, Angie and I off at the entrance gates while he drove on to visit Eden Camp near the Yorkshire Coast. We felt we had paid more than what we should for what we got. We spent a couple of hours exploring the extensive grounds before visiting the house. I enjoyed exploring the grounds including the formal gardens, the South Lake, the Mausoleum and the Temple of the Four Winds. It was interesting to look at the various statues ... read more

Hi Dudes I do already have a post up on here but i wanted to refresh and maybe see if there are any other new people on here. Ok so basically once i finish my degree in England (Hospitality Business Management) i am planning to head off around the world on a working holiday. The reason for this is that sometime in the future i am wanting to become a hospitality consultant and so increase my knowledge of the various cuisines out there, as well as obviously sight seeing, getting drunk, sleeping on beaches etc etc. Although i do not have a specific plan at the minute i think i will be starting in Europe, France, Germany, Spain then onto South Africa etc. I will also be compiling a video diary whilst doing so. So please ... read more

It’s Sunday in Leeds. Sunday morning in our household is usually a lazy affair. We have a ‘lay in’ (as the British folk say) and eventually force ourselves up at around the 10am mark. At which time a particular chain of events is sparked. If I have calls to make back home, I settle in with a cup of tea and begin the skype rounds. If I’ve missed the time window in which it’s okay to call home, I might laze about with the paper for a few hours and putter around the house before cajoling myself that I read should go outside at least once in the day and convince myself I’ll go for a run. Meanwhile, Adam will inevitably have gotten out of bed, shovelled down his massive cereal bowl, donned his soccer gear ... read more

When the world looks less than peachy I think most ex-pats would admit that their thoughts immediately turn to home. Perhaps its the comfort of what is familiar and the sure support of loved ones on offer. Or maybe there's that strong belief that this would never happen back home, as the saying goes 'the grass is always greener'. In the midst of our recent travel, sickness and car woes, my head has been increasingly filled with thoughts of home and the distance to home has been felt acutely. But having been away from home for 3 years now, the certainties of life back in Aus feel cloudier. Certainty has given way to questions rumbling about in my mind. What would it feel like to be back? What would our lives be like? Would it still ... read more

Reflection This is a time where I like to reflect on my travels past and present. 2009 was a good year even if I just visited two countries, France and Spain. It did feel strange not travelling out of Europe but it was just a good thing to stay in my home continent for a change. However, 2010 is going to be different! This month, thanks to big rebate, I’m returning to Argentina for a holiday visiting Buenos Aires and the glaciers in the South. In April, my parents are taking me on my first cruise around Eastern Mediterranean where I hope to see Greece, Italy and Croatia. I also plan to fit in a trip to Paris in the summer. My main trip for 2010, hopefully at the end of November or beginning of December, ... read more

On New Year's Eve, Mary Morris held a party, of which I was the designated host (don't ask me why, because it was not my preference-- I almost think it was a joke, hmm). These are the last pictures I took while I was in Leeds. I celebrated my birthday before I left, but someone else took the pictures. After these photos, I should be completely caught up on my study abroad trip. I hope you enjoyed following me!... read more

Well, it's almost time to leave - weather permitting. A few more days and I'll be off. Christmas comes first though, and I can't wait to see everyone. It's strange because I feel that I cannot really get excited about my trip, as I still have so much to do for the festive season. Blog out!... read more
