The biggest part of this trip is the preparation, making sure that we have all the paper work in place. this includes the Visa for the countries and also all the paper work that is involved in shipping a car out to Africa and being able to drive it through various countries. this was a real pain to arrange and took the best part of 3 months The other thing that we needed to do was to turn our Landrover defender from a weekend car that were going to use for camping and mountain biking into a overland vehicle that would be capable of taking us round Africa and would be our home for the next 6-8 months When we first bought the land rover at the beginning of the year it looked like this (Vanilla ... read more

HI. This is my new travel blog. It will tell you all about all of the amazing places I am going to go. I will update it as often as I can. I'm going to be studying Chemistry at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY for a year. I'm flying over on the 23rd from Heathrow to Newark and staying in New York City for 3 days, for which time I've booked a hostel in Brooklyn called The New York Loft Hostel. I need to buy a guide book as I don't know what I'm going to do yet. On the 26th I'm getting the Megabus to Albany, which is the biggest city near where I'm going and then catching a bus to Troy and then another to RPI. I'm staying in halls for the year in ... read more

“In all new beginnings, there dwells a magic force” 13; It sounds like a curse, an unlucky number, like a horror film, Friday, or the 13th Floor. Even in a game of mecca bingo it’s surely not gonna be the world’s greatest omen. But to me right now, 13 is feeling great. I have 13 working days left before I hand notice in to the dead end job I’ve been working and praying hard to get out of for the past 3 years. Remortgaging millionaires mansions and desparately seeking Swahili people with no grasp of the English language in instant recession bliss never really was my idea of fun. But heh! We all have to bite ass somewhere along the line to get where we wanna go. I can’t complain, my wife Nicki and I have ... read more

Yesterday, I got my new travel money card to use on my forthcoming Paris and Alicante trips (and also for future trips). It is just under a month that I am off to Paris. Lately, I have been thinking where I would love to travel on future trips. The list is so long!!! I come to a realisation that it would not be possible to see everywhere and do everything in my life so I have to prioritise. I know where I do not want to go but the list is too short with just three countries! I have been doing some further research on my Paris and Alicante trips. I now have got some ideas of what I would like to do and, in the case of Alicante, expect to see. I have finally paid ... read more

This morning we headed out early to catch the tube from Pimlico to King’s Cross and then the train to Leeds. The train system is so easy to understand here. It makes traveling much less scary than in some countries (including the U.S!). We got to Leeds at 11::40am and my friend Mike (who I was meeting in person for the first time!) was there waiting to pick us up. There is nothing better than seeing a friendly face waiting for you at the station! He drove us to our hotel, the Cliff Lawn, where we dropped off our bags before heading out again to the Harewood House to spend the day. The Harewood House was the home of Ed wn Lascelles, a West Indian plantation owner of English Ancestry, and as well as touring the ... read more

Today, I purchased my annual travel insurance with The Post Office. Originally, I was going to purchase it just for Europe but because of my travel plans for Europe and beyond over the next couple of years, I decided to extend it worldwide (except North America and the Caribbean where I do not intend to travel to). I got a good deal with The Post Office and it works out a lot cheaper than purchasing insurance for each single trip I plan to make. Their policy is very good and is more generous in comparison to other insurances policies I looked at when shopping around. I have almost paid off my Spanish course which I am doing in Alicante at the end of August and the next month or so, I plan to get my spending ... read more

Before I left Switzerland I thought I would be organised and book my trains around england as they are so expensive. I pre-booked my train from London to Leeds and had given myself 3 hours to get from Heathrow to Kings Cross to allow plenty of time. Even though I had pre-booked my train it still cost me £90 for the trip. My flight from Geneva to London had only cost me $80 and I paid £28 for my flight to Stockholm which comes later. I flew with British Airways which you would have thought would be a reputable company but we sat on the tarmac in Geneva for 2 hours while they were changing an oil filter which meant I missed my train and then had to pay another £111 to get to Leeds! British ... read more

Morning world... Hi. Just poking my head above the Travelblog waves to take a look around. I'm on countdown to my next trip back to Australia (T minus 79 days and counting), and this time I'm gonna try and stay there for a looooong, looooong time. In the meantime, I'll be helping the folks here at TB work on the site to make it even better than it is now. Exciting times. Timbo... read more

It has been a while since I last made an entry to my blog. Finally, I have got round to booking flights and making travel plans for this year. I have decided to stay in Europe and explore more of the continent. At the end of July, I have booked a trip returning to Paris coinciding with my birthday and having opportunities to explore more of the city. I would like to revisit some of my favourite sights, visit some art museums and check out some sights I have not yet seen. I had an amazing time in Paris last year where I attended French language classes for which was part of my GCSE French exam revision (I am happy to say that I passed!). Later on in the year, there are also plans to visit ... read more
