We have an early afternoon flight today from Dubai to London Gatwick, so had plenty of time to relax in the plush hotel before going to the airport. At about 11.30am, we boarded the hotel shuttle back to the airport. Although we have not bought anything since the flight yesterday, our hold bags weighed in today at two kilograms more. Not sure what has happened there as we had not added anything to them. Dubai International Airport is very compartmentalized so we decided it would be best to find the gate before getting anything to eat. Unfortunately, when we got there all we could find was a Costa Coffee. Got a couple of toasted sandwiches and some hot drinks. Not really what we planned but they were nice. Our Emirates flight left about 20 minutes late ... read more

We arrived back into the UK from Las Vegas about 10.00am this morning. We were both feeling pretty tired, but thankfully Theresa is feeling a little better. After picking up our luggage and a few drinks for the room, we make our way over to the Premier Inn within the North terminal. It was about midday at this point. As check-in does not open until 2.00pm, they wanted an extra £10.00 for us to check-in at 12.00 instead. The £10.00 fee is new and rather ruthless seeing as this is an international airport. We were really tired so decided it would be worth it to be able to get some sleep now. About 5 minutes after, we made to our room on the 8th floor, the fire alarm went off. We were unsure if this was ... read more

We went to Wakehurst Place on 16 October 2018. Wakehurst Place is located in the heart of Sussex, owned by the National Trust and managed by the Kew Garden. We took the train to Haywards Heath from Victoria and took the bus to Crawley. It was lunch time we arrived; so we had a picnic lunch. It was quite warm and sunny; we could see lots of leaves that had turned autumnal colours – gold, red, orange and yellow – and these leaves were falling on the ground little by little. We decided to walk down to woodland via Pinetum and Himalayan Glade. There were various shapes of pine trees, conifers grown on Pinetum. On foot of trees we found vivid y red mushrooms – they look bright under the blue sky, although they were poisonous ... read more

We decided to visit Chichester on 17th May. There were frequent trains between Petersfield and Portsmouth Harbour and Havant and Brighton. From Petersfield we had to change at Havant. It took 50 minutes to Chichester. Chichester is one of the major cities in Britain. As we walked towards the city centre, we found a wide variety of shops and restaurants – Greek Restaurant; Wagamama, Japanese restaurant. We turned left on Canon Lane and approached the Cathedral via St Richard’s Walk. St Richard’s Walk was decorated with flower beds and led us to the cloister of the cathedral. Chichester Cathedral showed fine architecture in both the Norman and the Gothic styles. It was a free entry to the cathedral. This magnificent cathedral has stood at the heart of Chichester to more than 900 years and presents both ... read more

Had a really lazy day today. Breakfast at 8am and then off for a short drive to Bracklesham Bay to hunt for some fossils. The beach is a pebble beach with grey sand out near the sea. The tide was out and there were lots of people around. Some were just swimming (it was a balmy 10 degrees) but there were lots of people on boards and some paragliders. It was a bit windy and I had to pull my coat up over my ears because they started to hurt a bit. People were walking their dogs and there were 3 horses out as well. It was a very restful morning for everyone. I bought back a bag of fossils. Some I don’t know about but they look interesting anyway. Went to Sainsbury’s at Bognor Regis ... read more

Had a lovely sleep at Michele's and had a sad goodbye this morning. They are like my English family. Big hugs all round. I left Olney at about 9:30 and started the 3 hour drive to Uckfield and the Bluebell Railway. The traffic was pretty ordinary, particularly on the M25 (I hate the M25). Found the Bluebell Railway at about 12:30. Train was leaving at 1:30 so I had some time. I found the ticket office and learnt that I was the only person booked on for lunch. I had a whole table to myself. The buffet car filled up with ordinary passengers but they only bought food on for me! The lovely lady said that food would start once we got underway but would I like a cup of tea to start. Oh my, the ... read more

Like a lot of people, I have always wanted to see the world from a young age; sounds cliché, but its true. Granted, most people would say I am still at a ripe young age, but I think that's the best time to go. My family holidays only used to consist of 6 hour treks to Cornwall, where my sisters and I would shove Parent Trap on the DVD player in so we could kill a third of that journey in one film. This happened around four times a year until I turned 12. You see, my nan was very good at competitions, and by good, I mean incredible. This woman not only granted me my freedom to venture out of the country to France the first year I went abroad, but also gave me the ... read more

Had dinner with Stephen's aunt, all was well until after repeatedly saying she wouldn't let out the yappy crazy dogs that hadn't stopped barking since we got there.....she let out the crazy dogs which immediately went totally crazy, barking, snarling and jumping all over us. I was a panicky mess while Stephen did his best to try and contain them with no success at all, his aunt eventually managed to herd them back into the laundry where they started barking incessantly again. Had a great visit otherwise than and went home stuffed full of food! Back at the hotel to settle in properly after just throwing our bags in earlier and a restless night in a very hot non airconditioned room! After yesterday's marathon drive we decided today to try and do secondary roads not the ... read more
