Now 3 weeks until we leave Newcastle, and we still have 2 interviews to complete between us before we can REALLY start getting excited! We will try and keep this as up to date as we can during our trip, however internet access may be limited in our micro-van! Keep watching this space! Chris and Sarah x ... read more

After just 3 months of planning, we are finally organised and ready to go. Our route is roughly planned and some flights have been booked so far. We've said goodbye to Caroline and Dave and wished them luck with their new plans. All we need to do now is get to Manchester airport, have a final drink in the UK with Luke and Celine and get our flight to Reykjavik.... read more

Well, we are almost there! After what feels like YEARS of buying all the smaller items and ordering medication (which seems to weigh more than my clothing) our packs are as full as we can handle - with room for future purchases of course! For reference I have taken a photo of the contents of my pack, layed out as neat as possible - this will be as good as it gets for a whole year, so take note. I look at it all and get a small thrill at the thought of living so simply, but at others a niggling feeling of unease at the lack of 'creature comforts'. No hairdryer, no selection of stationary, no anti-aging cream: arrgghh! Warren does not seem too bothered, but then he has always been a more 'outdoorsy' sort ... read more

Today we are wrapping up our trip in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne in northern England! It was quite the bus ride from London to here (8 hours), but extremely scenic. Lex's buddy Mitch welcomed us with open arms. Haha he also attempted to prepare us for the 'circus'. The town of Newcastle is home to the summer weekend 'circus' -- a.k.a every single stag and stagette party for the United Kingdom. Truly, we saw and partied with 30 to 40 different groups who were all dressed up in ridiculous costumes. Everything from pirates, playboys, jail bait, to condom suit; you name it and we would have seen the costume ;) The city is wicked for partying -- they honestly have a place called 'the bar mall'. Literally, it's an indoor mall with only bars and clubs in it. Needless ... read more

Tuesday 21st July Today is postponed...........well almost Today has dawned fine and sunny and it looks like we will get a great day for driving south to Newcastle, our overnight stay as we head back to England. Through the MSN connection on our laptop we got to see and chat with Leigh and Cormac back home. This mode of catching up with our girls, including Erin when she has been at Leigh’s home, has been a nice addition to our trip. The wonders of the internet and a laptop with a camera and microphone!! After a photo with Aileen and John we hit the road with the sun still shining and headed for Brechin and the A90 south towards Edinburgh. One of the features in the landscape that has developed over our two weeks in Scotland is the change in what ... read more

So I discovered last night that the Dr. Who watch I bought doesn't work. Looks like it needs a new battery, but I wasn't sure, so I called up the museum this morning to ask. Seems that all of their watches weren't working, so I'm guessing it is the battery. Hope I can find a replacement easily. (I know, what a geek! A Dr. Who watch??? Anyway.....) Checked out of my room this morning with a few hours to kill before my train. I decided to go and sit in George Square and found that there was some kind of presentation going on, involving the army, the police overseeing, and a few Royal officers. There were too many people and my bags were too heavy to find out exactly what it was, but it looked interesting. ... read more

And I Just Happen To Arrive On A Friday After six hours on the train (and I discovered that some trains not only have power points but also have free WIFI!!!) I finally came in to Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. Being a Friday night, I fought my way through the throngs of men dressed in pink tu-tus and women in veils to my hostel right in the middle of it all. A large hostel that seems to be made more for the weekend party goers then for the traveller but with two nights booked, I was about to find out exactly how much of a party hostel it was. Trying to find a quiet pub on a Friday night in Newcastle is like trying to find where that last screw goes when you put something back together. You know ... read more

Right now I'm on a train to Ross's house and I am using WiFi to upload a post, so people 4,000 miles can see it. That is so cool. I was in Edinburgh last week, here are some pictures, and I will post the rest from Scotland soon. cheers... read more
