*Warning* - This blog is long and involves some very personal feelings that I've never expressed to anyone. If you're not interested in this then I suggest you don't read on, otherwise it would be a good idea for you get a comfy chair, a brew and biscuit and settle in.... I'd like to say that I acquired my lust for travel from an inspirational book or a well made film...but in reality it was from something very different to a lot of other travellers...M.E/C.F.S. I've been thinking a lot lately about what has influenced me to want to travel and I couldn't look back on my short (but quite eventful) life and pinpoint the exact time when I thought "Yes! I would like to go around the world!" But I have come to the conclusion ... read more

Hello again all!!! We have been up in the North West of England now for just over two weeks visiting Jimmy's relatives, with a bit of sightseeing on the side. We got bad news the day before we were to arrive in Preston - Jimmy's grandad had passed away. So we had the funeral on Monday 4th June which was a really nice service and also very sad. Jimmy's parents had made the trip over as well and it was very strange to see them - it felt like just yesterday we'd left home. The positive spin we put on the otherwise sad and unfortunate situation, was that his grandad must've picked his timing just for us, as we experienced a full blown family reunion, with Jimmy meeting great aunts he'd never even met before ... read more

Well, finally made it to Lytham. I hate motorways and traffic. I also hate SatNav (what the hell was the point of a 15 minute detour which places you right back where you started?). Oh, I also hate rest stops. Yeah... got a lot of hate in me now. It's eating away at me. Yup. One thing I will say, having no sleep for the two most emotional days of your life can make you very tired. I was very, very tired. I slept fora day in an extremely comfortable bed. I am now still very, very tired, but now I can't sleep. Great. Preparations for the trip are well underway, I have started buying sleeping bags, consigning AC memorabilia to the attic and sorting out final travel details. Oh, and insurance - I'm using ... read more

oh wow. this is probably the most exciting thing that has happened to me. i can't keep up. so, after driving to newark with my family and blowing way too much money in the airport's borders, i hopped on a plane and jetsetted across the atlantic. it was the most uncomfortable six hours of my entire life, and my only source of amusement was the drunk amateur rapper (who continuously drank those little five dollar bottles of bacardi, FOR THE ENTIRE FLIGHT) and his posse. when we got off of the plane, the elderly and fragile british woman who sat next to him was holding him up. and he was a large man. i should've taken a picture. plane food is disgusting. i was hungry, so i had no choice but to eat the coagulated chicken ... read more

We arrived safely in Liverpool on the 29th March and Bernie picked us up on her way home from work in Chorley. We had time to take in the scenery as we drove the hour back to Preston. It’s an industrial looking city and a very new one so it doesn’t have the history and beautiful architecture of some of the other cities we have been too. It was great though to unpack at Bernie and Shaun’s flat where we have our own room and a bed to call our own for a while. After weeks of travelling it was quite a relief. Bern and Shaun were a fountain of information, sharing all of the tips and hints that they’d worked out over the past couple of years. We have spent our time taking advantage ... read more

Today was another slow day on our trip. I used most of the morning to catch up on my journal writing. Around 2, Joni and I and two others decided to take a bus into Preston proper in order to try to locate some internet and an ATM. We didn’t really have any clue where we were going—we just went to the nearest bus stop and got on the bus into downtown Preston. When we got to the bus station, we coincidentally ran into missionaries in the terminal! They gave us directions to the nearest internet café, and we set out through the light rain. The rain got heavier, my feet got colder (I had walked out wearing flip-flops for some reason I can’t now fathom), all the internet cafés we passed were closed—it’s a ... read more

Thank you all so much for your prayers, God is truly anwering them. So far my past couple days in England have been great. I Spent one night at my uncle's house in London, which was a really good time. I got to hang out with my cousin, Ben, who I haven't seen in years. I really enjoyed that; we went to the most real Italian restaurant I've been to yet and also went to a fair! At the fair and the restaurant I would forget I wasn't in North America until they would open their mouths. I love hearing the English speak! The bus ride to Capernwray was a good 6 hours including our 2 stops. I sat next to a girl named Amy who I met on the internet before I got here. We ... read more

Well, we have finished our contiki tour now, and have been able to spend the last couple of days relaxing and getting some sleep!! Last time we were in Rome, now we have seen Florence. That was great and went to restaurant for a tuscan dinner and stayed in a done-up old Gaol - SPOOKY!! Then the next morning we were on the coach and travelling to Lucern in Switzerland. Unfortunately we experienced some traffic issues on the way and were unable to get the sky lift to the top of the swiss alps to look at the view, but instead did a bit of shopping in the swiss watch shop and bought some chocolate. Needless to say the chocolate didn't last long. But it made up for the dinner we had at the hotel - ... read more
