There I was stood in Heathrow airport wondering how to get up to Manchester thinking 'If this was another country it would be so easy to find out the transport links' I went to the train station information desk, they didn't know times or costs of trains to Manchester, just the time of the next underground tram. I got some sterling, £100, that wouldn't last long, and found the real airport info. I decided to get the train as it was quicker than the bus. Even still I had to take the underground into London (it took over an hour) then the train from there up to Manchester, you would have thought they would have a better transport system really. I got off the train at Manchester Piccadilly and expected to see my parents waiting ... read more

In order to find myself and probably some other people I'm off to the heart of Indochina. Not to presume too much but its gona be awesome. So heres the plan. Friday tthe 20th ima fly to Bangkok international airport. From there its a short taxi to Soi ! guesthouse. After four-five days of mishin round Bangkok -- temples, ladyboys, elephants and all those other cliches, ima get the 6 hour train to Aranyaprathet in Cambodia. If they let me through the border ima get a tuk tuk to Siam Reap. Siam Reap houses Angkor Wat - the recently discovered jungle overgrown ancient city :D Few days there and its off to Battambang via speedboat! No idea what ima find there, prolly Cambodians! Then a grueling 8 hours bus ride to Phnom Penh Cambodias capital ... read more

Helluuuu Alice here! So I went out with my cousins Jessica and Claire last night in good old Blackburn and it was amazing! We got dressed up and ate lovely food and drank lovely champagne, that my father had earlier sent to the resturant awwww, and partied on down baby! The food at Papa Luigi's was fab and the service excellent! Twas brill, and the best part had to be when 'i wish i was a spaceman...' song came on at the end of the night woowooo! Jim, my pop, used to play that song on his guitar when we were younger and we sang out little hearts out with him. I'll miss his guitar playing :(. Claire bought me the greatest leaving pressie ever, some glowsticks so we looked extra cool! Anyhoot, this is just ... read more

My first entry, a plan of where we are off to. Simply click on the map. Today is Wednesday. I have just finished all the personal admin from when I sold my house about 2 weeks ago. The car is serviced ready to be sold and everything is ready for the first leg to Canada. But first I need to go and visit my oldest and best frien in the world, Craig, down in Reading as he and his good lady wife have just announced they are expecting their first child next year. I'm sure we'll have a couple of glasses of pop to celebrate. Next Thursday I will be driving down to Northampton, my home for the last decade or so, to say the final goodbyes. I am picking Sam up on the way and ... read more

So I realize I am the world's biggest procrastinator and have not posted anything about England since before I backpacked. I have been procrastinating on typing up my journal of the rest of Europe and not England because I was going to finish that first so that I would get the backpacking journal up in a reasonable period of time. Well, that plan worked. I haven't done that much today (or so it seems), but I am already exhausted. It seems I have gotten another Lancaster Uni experience under my belt: the fresher's flu. So my week, when I'm not in class, has been spent in bed watching Lost (I just started a few days ago but I'm already in season 2). I know really taking in that new culture. I actually tried to get ... read more

Hi folks We had a lovely day yesterday. Went across the Yorkshire moors to Whitby. The only place in Yorkshire I have been before is Leeds for a football match so it was all new to me. The weather was rainy to start with then the sun sort of made an appearance so the heavy coat I took became a burden to lug around. Those of you who have watched Heartbeat will know that the characters go to Whitby for their shopping or a day out. Quite a nice place and it was wonderful to smell the ocean even if it was the North Sea. Whitby, as all good Aussies know, was where Captain Cook first went to sea and there is a memorial to him there. Further up the coast is a little fishing village ... read more

On a day out from Blackpool we decided to visit Rufford Old Hall and it was well worth the visit Being members of the National Trust and having a lovely day at our disposal we decided to go Getting there was quite easy with a little help from satellite navigation. The hall is set back off the road and in the middle of some beautiful trees that provided some welcome shade and kept the car cool while we explored the house and gardens. The gardens are very beautiful and peacefull.A haven for birds and wildlife.... read more

Hey Everyone Lovely to get your comments. Sorry we haven't written for a while...too busy! These last few days we have been to Liverpool, The Lake District, Manchester, Burnley, Blackburn Villa Park and extensive trips into the coutryside. Next week we plan to go to North Wales, taking in Mount Snowden and Harlech Castle. While we were in Liverpool there was a chap protesting about father's rights and he was nicely ensconced atop a huge column. He must have been freezing up there as there was a very stiff and cold wind coming off the Irish Sea. He was there all day and the only interest he attracted was from us tourists and the police. Must be a regular occurence for locals. Boy am I glad we took coats with us .....sitting on top of an ... read more
