Well we met up with Marianne at the start of the walk from Winchcombe and got lost right from the start so this was looking like a real good day. Anyway we found the track and then we started the walk. We had lots of steps up hills which is great when you are up there as the views are amazing however then the heavens opened and the rain came a tumbling down! So being a true walker I put on my Kagool and carried on walking. Well this kagool looks good but to be honest that’s as far as it goes cause it does not stop the rain from penetrating so wet jumper it is which is not great. We get to one part of the track and this is the sign we see BEWARE ... read more

Well day two started well we drove to Stanton and left the car. If you read yesterday's post you would have seen we got lost in a tiny village looking for a bus and that was Stanton so you would have thought we would have known our way around this little village. NO we did not learn a thing and spent another 1/2 hour walking around this tiny village looking for where we needed to start our walk. Anyway we found the start and off we walk. What a lovely part of the countryside it is so picturesque and if you have never been around this part of the country then it should be on your list. So we get to one field and what do I see a sign saying "Bull in Field" this is ... read more

We couldn't lie in too long as the B&B owners were off on holiday on the Sunday (this wasn't their fault, their plans got changed at the last minute) - she did let us leave & lock up ourselves though. We headed up to the barn to help my parents & some friends to take down the decorations. Some went to Kate & Tom for their wedding in September, others (plus some presents) got taken by Vix & Neil to drop off to us at a later date. We headed off a bit later than planned & stopped in Abergavenny for lunch & to wander around the steam fayre that was there. We also grabbed some groceries to suppliment our supply of wedding leftovers! Mark drove us over to the far end of the country & ... read more

The big day dawned & we had a tasty breakfast, showered & headed up to the barn to put on the finishing touches. I then got changed & Vix drove me over to Cheltenham for the legal bit at the registry office withnessed by close family & a few friends only. Very simple but nice ceremony there. We then headed back to Postlip for a quick bite & anothger change into the real wedding clothes! Mark got changed & headed down to the barn to meet & greet the guests whilst Clare, Vix & Zahira got th task of making me look as pretty as possible! Running a tad late the lovely B&B owner ran us down in her 4x4. Just as we were catching our breaths we heard the entrance music playing - Saffron's Wedding ... read more

So the morning was a hectic rush of loading a good portion of the wedding bits & bobs plus all out honeymoon stuff into the car - amazingly it all fitted with room to see out! We arrived at Postlip Tithe Barn late morning to find mum already sorting out her carload! Many friends turned up to help turn a working barn into a magical hall. We had a team (including myself) putting up the swagging, another making bows to go with it, a couple of lads hanging the wonderful bunting (made by lots of friends!), Mark & Dad strung up the fairy lights & cloth behind the stage, the table & chairs were put up, stage arranged, mum & Clare worked wonders with the flowers! I apologise for turning into Bride-zilla but everyone wanted me ... read more

Geo: 51.9532, -1.96476Ok, so the real title should be "What goes up, must come down....oh *!$%&, it goes up again!First the good news.....no blisters, we were't attacked by random farm animals, we eventually made it to Winchecomb, I didn't have a meltdown (ok, it was small and hardly noticable)The bad news....We walked an unnecessary 2 miles by missing a sign post (if this were the Amazing Race, we'd be on our way home), my left foot hurt so badly by days end that, if given the choice, I may have considered chopping it off!more good news....the weather was fabulous and we didn't get hit by a car....we were also laughing not long after reaching our destination. So the day started with me taking more door knocker pictures (they really are spectacular). We knew that this terrain was ... read more

ENGLAND at the B&B: Tuesday, May 24th We left GSP airport on time at 2:25 PM, Monday, May 23rd, connected in Atlanta to the flight for London's Gatwick airport and arrived in London, again on time, at 7:10 AM, Tuesday, May 24th. We picked up the rental car, with right hand drive and, after familiarizing myself with the controls, pulled out of the parking spot and promptly got lost in the parking garage. (We didn't really get lost, just had trouble finding the exit for a while.) Unfortunately, this was a theme repeated often on this trip. I will NEVER again go to Europe and rent a car without owning a good GPS. We left the airport (on the left side of the road most of the time) around 8:30 AM or so and headed for ... read more

Walk to Hailes Abbey via the Cotswolds Way We walked northwards on the High Street and it led us to Hailes Road. Then, we found the signpost of the Cotswolds Way and Puck Pit Lane, known as Pilgrim's Way. Reading through the guidebook, Pilgrim's Way was the route where the pilgrims followed to go to the sacred place, Hailes Abbey between 13th and the beginning of the 16th century. After going past the footpath, the Pilgrim's Way led us to the open pasture land. We walked through the ground where countless sheep grazed and were wondering about, whilst viewing golden coloured corn field with scattered trees and seeing honey coloured houses and church's spire beyond. We spotted the steam railway running through the villages. We reached the destination at 12 o'clock. Hailes Abbey We showed our ... read more
