Today we have moved on to Ilfracombe- an English seaside resort town. The B&B where we are staying contacted us earlier in the week and asked if we could check in early as they had appointments during the afternoon. As we only had a short drive, we were happy to agree. The morning was quite wet, so we didn’t stop on our way. The forecast suggested that it would clear about 10am, but by the time we arrived in Ilfracombe (round 12) the sun was yet to make an appearance, although the rain was almost stopped. Today we visited two different National Trust properties as we drove on to Devon. We started at St Michael’s Mount near Marazion first thing this morning- after a fantastic breakfast at the Boskerris Hotel. We knew the causeway out to the Mount was only open until 1.45pm, so it would be better to visit in the morning. It was not far from St Ives to Marazion, and we were soon parking the car and walking out over the beach and the causeway to the island. Having visited Mont St Michel in France, and knowing the two islands were related in many ways, we wanted to see this Cornish Mount. Monday 31st July - Tuesday 15th August I went home. I had told my parents I was arriving on the Tuesday but had arranged for my brother to pick me up from the airport on the Monday. I left my apartment in Shenzhen six hours before my flight. I got a taxi to the border and from there I got a sky taxi, which is a minibus that takes you directly to Hong Kong Airport. It took just over an hour to get there so I had plenty of time to relax after I checked in before my flight to Manchester..... Or so I thought. Tag 304 – Butter machen, Festival im Regen & Himbeereis Morgens wurde Nicole von Richard zum Bus gebracht. Ich räumte wie immer die Küche auf und spielte dann den Großteil des Tages mit den Kindern. Daisy und ich backten einen Backmischung-Schokoladenkuchen. Nach einer Weile Play-Doh-Spielen bastelten wir einen Eiswagen mit einem Bastelbogen. Später machte ich noch Butter mit ihr. Wir hatten Sahne besorgt und ein leeres Honigglas abgewaschen. Nun füllte ich Sahne ins Glas, schraubte es gut zu und schüttelte. Wie schon vermutet war Daisy nicht besonders ausdauernd beim Schütteln, und gab mir das Glas nach ein paar Sekunden wieder. So musste ich die zwanzig Minuten hauptsächlich alleine schütteln. Tag 302 – Alternative Markettown Totnes Am Donnerstag waren wir wieder alleine zuhause, und Richard schickte mir eine lange Liste mit Aufgaben. Ich räumte die Küche auf und machte den Backofen sowie den Kühlschrank sauber. Danach war Gartenarbeit angesagt: Die Rasenkanten per Hand schneiden, im Vorgarten Unkraut jäten sowie die Erde auflockern. May saugte und kümmerte sich dann noch ein bisschen um die Website. Bevor wir aßen, spielte ich noch eine Weile Klavier. Schließlich brachte Richard Emily und die Kindern nach Hause und nahm uns mit nach Paignton, wo wir den Bus nach Totnes nahmen. Gegen drei waren wir da. Totnes war eine etwas alternative Stadt mit einer Menge individueller Läden, und Emily hatte mir davon vorgeschwärmt.
