Hello all, So the month of November finds me on an outdoor leadership course in DEvon and Cornwall. Hopefully this will lead to a career along these lines. Or at the very least a great experience. It certainly has been a tough experience and each night I have been knackered. Its been really tough. The first week saw us all go on a group development course. It was fun. Abseiling down cliffs. Running through bogs, and I mean real daddy swampy bogs, hiking on Dartmoor and diving into freezing cold weirs. I guess the week was to show us what we would be expected to do when we all enter the industry. Certainly doesnt seem to be a boring industry to get involved in. This last week has been all rock climbing and to be honest ... read more

After managing to get Grant added to the driver’s list moments before the car hire place closed, we headed back to the 'Grand Shey Bu Hostel' and waited for Matt to arrive at Helen and Beth’s. We chucked everything in the car and headed towards the M3 motorway with the help of Grant’s fancy GPS navigational device, which proved to be very useful throughout the trip, even though it rendered me jobless. We stopped to get more petrol plus food from the service station (where are the Bombay Hills or Mercer when you need them!). We had to stop later on so Matt could get some food as well. After a bit of a mission, we finally found a services area that was open and he was stuck with a rather early cooked breakfast for dinner, ... read more

My summer in Croyde was amazing. Working at the surf school was the best job i have ever had, and in a strange way, all the nights spent working in the kitchen at the manor provided many highlights throughout the summer. Working so many hours didnt bother me much, as i knew it was providing me with the funds i required to embark on my dream surf adventure abroad. Living in Croyde felt like i was a million miles away from my old life in Manchester. Sharing a house with 4 other surfers (and the lovely Martina) meant that if we were not out surfing or working together, then we would probably all be chilling at the house watching surf movies and talking about surfing instead. Hanging around with people who loved surfing as much as ... read more

Roland Tarver's 4.5 Month Adventure Began on the 23rd Sept 2006 Hi All, In August 2006 I handed my 4 week notice in at work; I had decided to go travelling for a spell, 4.5 months to be exact. This will represent the longest trip I have done in my 27 years. That said, longer trips are planned for the future - at some point. Anyhow, on the 22nd Sept I said good-bye to my family and some very close friends and found myself on a bus to London for a flight the next day. This was a very exciting time for me. I love the anticipation of a trip. Brillant. My trip will take me to the following countries, in order: Hong Kong; New Zealand; Australia; Thailand; Vietnam; Cambodia and Laos. Why did I ... read more

We’re back home!! What a great year it has been. We’ve experienced so much, met so many people, learned lots of languages (well bits of anyway) and seen many sights. It’s been a fantastic trip and we’re so glad we did it. The best place we visited was, without a doubt, the Galapagos, a wonderful experience unlike anything else. For natural beauty the Iguazu falls were spectacular and Patagonia is very beautiful. Our favourite temples were Tikal in Guatemala and the nicest people were the Japanese and the Cambodians. The year just flew past but we feel like we fitted a lot into it. Now it’s back to the harsh realities of everyday life.......... read more

After the hectic travelling I had been doing with Justin and Joel, coming to England was a little like coming home for a rest after the relaxing holiday. In essence it was, I was born in Plymouth and had lived there for a few years in my teens so I wasn't really interested in seeing the sights that London or Plymouth haad to offer, it was about seeing old friends and having fun/drinking alcoholic yeast water. London I arrived in London after flying via Frankfurt in a plane with propellers! When was the last time that anyone went on an international flight in a propeller driven plane. It was quite exciting though as they made an amazing noise when they were revving up, like a swarm of angry, mechanical bees. Also we weren't flying above the ... read more

Before I start this new blog, I would to submit a new mathematical formula into any new travel planning exercise. This is a measure of just how much trouble you (the male) are going to be in when traveling with your partner (the female). However this does come with warning label, if you cherish your health, you can never make mention of this. It’s a rather simple formula actually and goes a little something like this; there is an exponential relationship between the pain and discomfort you are going to experience as the total weight of your partners luggage moves towards half of their partner weight. If her luggage exceeds half of her weight, cancel your trip; the pain will be too great. We woke up rather late on Sunday morning at 10am, with a slight ... read more
