Oh my god tomorrow it will be only 5 weeks to go before we set off on our round the world trip, the dream is starting to feel like reality and i am nervous (and very excited)! Ollie and I are currently going through the process of having our final injections, we had all the free ones done ages ago and now we are having the Japenese Encephalitis, as you can see by the pic my arm was not happy with what the nurse put in it on Thursday, can't wait to have the next 2 doses and the annoying thing is that Ollie had the same injection on Friday and as we are at different surgeries he paid £50 less and his arm is fine, therefore i have spent £50 extra for my arm to ... read more

Yeoford in Exeter, Devon 10-12th March, 2006 The story goes like this. Bernadette and Elizabeth's surname is Dornom. When we arrived in England Bern got an email from David Dornom who lives in Devon and has been tracking the Dornom family history for several years now. David was keen to meet the infamous Dornom twins of Aspendale, Melbourne having discovered that they were his cousins. David and his wife Paddy invited us to stay with them at their home in Yeoford which is just out of the town of Exeter in the county of Devon. Being a Fitzgerald and not a Dornom I was still very much welcomed in to their home. Even if it was only to help disperse the Dornom conversations and keep Paddy company! We were truly spoilt the entire weekend with a ... read more

Just a quick journal entry to test whether it works! We are going to STA travel on Saturday in Exeter to finally book our RTW ticket. However we are 4 days away from doing this and we keep changing our minds about how long we should stay in each country. There is so much world out there, and we are not the best at making decisions. Hopefully, we will be sorted by the time Saturday arrives!!!! Anyway hope this entry works.... read more

Dear Friends, I'm dusting down this travelblog to let you know I'm off on a new adventure! Tomorrow I fly to Sri Lanka where I'll be be doing voluntary work with tsunami survivors. Towards the end of 2003, while I was working in India, I took a weekend trip to Sri Lanka. I completely adored the place and vowed to return one day to see more. Sadly, just a few months laters, the southern part of the island was decimated by the Boxing Day tsunami. We've all seen the dreadful pictures. Thirty thousand people died in Sri Lanka alone. I wonder about the people I encountered on that short trip, those I met and those that just waved and smiled. I don't imagine that the rustic beachside cabin I stayed in is still standing. Sobering thoughts... ... read more

Matt: Just a quick note to update you on my continuing exploration of the little known hotspots of the British Isles (do you think KPMG would mind if I got a second job with Lonely Planet writing the first edition of their guide to ‘How to Explore Britain Courtesy of your Employer’?)… This week, boys and girls, Uncle Matty finds himself exploring the English Riviera (their description, not mine) - otherwise known as ‘Sunny Torquay’ (For some reason, most travel guides and hotel brochures always seem to prefix ‘Torquay’ with the word ‘Sunny’ - if anyone knows why, please let me know!)… For those of you that love British comedies, Sunny Torquay is the seaside village where Faulty Towers is set. During my brief stay of less than 24 hours it seemed that the place hadn’t ... read more

I can't imagine it was any good. On a side note. Matt: Just a quick note to you give you all an update of our travels so far... The weekend before last was Guy Fawkes night; the one night of the year when otherwise normal, law abiding Brits get the urge to head for the nearest local park and try to systematically blow themselves up. Apparently the tradition started 400 years ago when Mr Fawkes - an Irish pyromaniac - tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament… In celebration, Ed and I headed down to Primrose Hill (which is a local park on a hill from where can see the whole city) with Greer, Timmy, Kate, Kristen, Michelle, eight bottles of wine and some cheese. It was pretty amazing - the whole city was literally exploding around us! All was going well until a few locals ... read more

So I’ve just quit my job. And not a second too soon, I might add, since I just discovered a 2p arcade. You know the ones? Where you drop the 2 pences in and watch as you deliberately lose all your money in 5 minutes. Spent most of my last day’s wages on that thing. The tragic thing is, I feel it was money well spent. And after spending most nights this week co-creating a website that has become a bit crazy - www.pumpupthedots.com - to those pondering if I’ve created another pointless concept, I’m about ready to depart this glorious country. It’s all come together surprisingly well; better than I thought it would do a month ago. I’ve been jabbed in the arms, stuffed my bag with 52 packs of malaria tablets, read through the ... read more

One day to go!- Tomorrow I'll be flying to Peru to start a two month voluntary teaching project. The placement is being organised by Teaching & Projects Abroad (www.teaching-abroad.co.uk). I'll be living with a Peruvian host in 'Ollantaytambo', a village/town in the Sacred Valley region, pretty close to the Inca Ruins of 'Machu Pichu'. My main role will be English teaching, but there may be other opportunities for inolvement. I'm hoping that I'll be able to access this blog periodicly to write updates on what I've been doing... I'm not quite sure how readily available internet access is in rural Peru!... read more
