June 29, 2007 “Pork Bellies Please!” We made it out of London. We have a lovely brand new Peugeot station the wagon. We took off and within 2 blocks almost had an accident…driving down a dead end lane! OMG….so after that while Scott had his head buried in a map and we missed our turn onto the expressway and 1.5 hours later we are on the motor way to Bath. We actually got the hang of driving on the “wrong side of the road” rather quickly. We had a fabulous time in Bath! It is gorgeous, charming, the quintessential English town. This was our first experience trying to obtain a room without a prior reservation. I was very tense about this. We tried three places that were full and I was ready to have a ... read more

The children were very excited to see me, bouncing all over the place, as soon as Rob walked in the door “Daddy, Aunty Bex is here”! Had a very nice meal courtesy of Bea, and a chance to catch up. Had a look over the new house - work in progress, looks like there’s plenty to do… Crashed out early with a bit more Harry Potter - getting there! Next day, rang i-to-i, found out that the Vietnam TEFL programme had been pulled for good, which was a bit of a downer. I decided I didn’t want to make a decision that day, but asked them to send me an email with information as to what other options there were, including what the refund options were. Got a chance to go to pre-school with Jack and ... read more

My first hot days in England. IT DIDN'T RAIN FOR 3 WHOLE DAYS... and it was sunny and while I don't think that I actually got a tan, I stopped loosing my tan for 3 days :) It makes such a difference to have photo's with blue sky in the background. On Friday morning I caught the train from Southampton down to Exeter (south-west of London on the coast) where my cousin Camilla is at uni. When I left Southampton at 8am it was raining and cold and when I got off the train at midday it was warm and sunny with no clouds :) I got a tour of her uni and then we went into town where I saw Exeter Cathedral, which was huge. We went down to the river and had a ... read more

Hello again, friends and family! It's been awhile since I've updated, I know, but typing a blog and uploading pictures while traveling is quite near impossible. I barely had time to keep up with my hand-written diary during this last month of traveling, as it was! But I arrived, safe and sound, in Winchester last Sunday and have been unpacking, recuperating and frantically writing essays ever since. Plus, my laptop's hard drive is fried, and has been in the shop all week, getting replaced, which makes communication and homework much more difficult. My goal is to add back-dated entries this week, complete with photos! The only newsworthy events from this week are: Wednesday -- going to Southampton with Jay (from Texas), Monique (from S. Carolina), Emma, Ces and Sophie (three English girls) to have our ... read more

The flight home was excellent with BA, had a great seat at the back, near the loo, and the large man I would've been sat next to decided to move to another row where he had no-one either side of him. Good move. My Brother met me at Heathrow, and then we went to meet John at terminal 3. It was great to catch up with him and Jen and hear all their plans for travel later this year. Now I am back, making home and nesting at John's, his bachelor house has been transformed slightly . It seems quite strange. The weather at first was bleak, and grey, and I had forgotten how the weather so reflects everyone's mood, including mine. Everyone seems to be wandering around with a frozen, teeth clenching expression. It is ... read more

Hi Everyone, Well I've been back in Plymouth now for about a week. It's so nice to be home and to have time to relax before I get back into work again. It's nice not getting the underground as well, and really nice to be back in Devon and being able to go to Cornwall and Dartmoor whenever I want to. We've been to Cornwall a couple of times since I've been back, and went to Dartmoor National Park yesterday. It was really nice there. I picked up a book on walks in Dartmoor and we found one of the stone circles we were looking for, but the second one (it's two stone circles off each other) was a little more difficult. The directions were very difficult to decipher when your landmark to head for ... read more
