This time having spent almost a year and a half in India, I returned back to Devonshire without any prior notice given to my friends. It was a shamble and a great mess of the year, as it became clear that everyone struggled to find a place for me within a short notice. I was lost and I was completely despaired of being disorganised. It was the time for me to sit inside the waiting room at the coach station in Exeter and become thoughtful as ever. There were many thoughts and none of those were helpful. At around 6pm, Tim rang me and told me that he is on his way to pick me up. He became the saviour of the day. I was so delighted for a while but I could not enjoy the ... read more

After Lawrence popped the question to Danielle most of us were only thinking one thing....stag do!! Best man Adam duly came up with the goods, hiring a pair of cottages down in Ashcombe, Devon that were complete with swimming pool, a games barn and no neighbours to complain about the noise and mayhem created by the frivolities that go along with a stag do. We managed to assemble down in Ashcombe in good time on Friday and after the Tesco delivery man had done us proud by turning up on time with a weekend's worth of food and booze we were soon in a local pub (I say local, but it was a 15 minute drive!), enjoying a cracking pub-lunch to start the weekend. You would have thought that picking the first week in July would ... read more

The last few weeks have been absolutely manic. We have been rushed off our feet with last minute preparations, whilst at the same time attending numerous farewell parties and continuing to work up to the last minute. Saying our goodbyes has left us with mixed emotions. We feel sad to be leaving our family and friends but at the same time we are incredibly excited about the trip we are about to embark on. I have no doubt that our journey will be a life changing experience for both of us and will mark a new chapter in our lives. D Day is Sunday June 29th and come rain or shine we will set off on that day from Wrexham in N Wales. On the map it looks all down hill all the way to Dover ... read more

June 23, 2008 Okehampton to Dartmoor National Park, England Up early to shop before we leave for our hike. I have learned shopping at Marks and Spenser is an expensive deal, so we look for Tesco, or Somerfield for food shopping. Dartmoor National Park is England's greatest expanse of wilderness, some 365 square miles of raw granite and heather-growth moor. The hike today meets at Shapley Common a Parking Area in the park and is scheduled to leave at 11:30. The cost for the guided hike is 6.50 pounds unless you arrive by public transportation, then just present you bus ticket. However buses are few and far between, we would have loved to avoid the horrors of driving the two way paths, called roads, but there was no choice. After a harrowing drive, we arrived at ... read more

Another morning flight but a short trip to the airport to return the hire car and after a bit of drama around which terminal we were flying from we were off to Plymouth. A short flight with Air South West who are a local airline based out of Plymouth. The flight was less than 2 hours and we touched down in Bristol to drop off and pick up a few other passengers and we were off again. We have previously done the five hour drive to Plymouth to this was certainly the favoured option to travel the Australian way by flying if at all possible. This was a Saturday so we just spent the day settling and seeing some of Jo's family. We had a great dinner at Yealmpton with some of Jo's old school friends. ... read more

Mum and Dad were off to Paree for a few days, so we had organised our own little jaunt: some friends we met on Lake Titicaca (as you do) are in Exeter, so we decided to abuse their hospitality. The drive started with a pfffft: we waited for ages to get onto the M4 due to the ubiquitous roadworks, but as soon as it cleared up the Mighty Proton (our steed) roared and we flew down the motorway. Not quick enough for some, though - the Brits do tend to chug along, and anyone holding up proceedings is quickly subjected to close rear inspection. We found our place in the slow lane, despite adhering to the speed limit. First stop, Avebury - it's Stonehenge's poor but much larger cousin. A ring of stones is enclosed by ... read more

We had a tough 6 hour drive down to Devon in terrible weather. It was our first real experience of traffic jams on British motorways since we got back. Very unpleasant!! Our week in the village of Thorverton, near Exeter, Devon, was both relaxing and hectic. With new nephew William to welcome into the family plus Jack (4), Bryony (5) and Kaitlyn (7) to keep us occupied, we were pleased to be house-sitting for a friend of the family. The peace and quiet saved our sanity!!!!!!!!!!!! Don’t get me wrong, it was great to see them but it made us realise what a good decision it was not have kids of our own!!!!! The weather wasn’t great a lot of the time but we still managed to get out and about. We had a wonderful afternoon ... read more

Europe here we come Sam and Debbie are finally on the road and we are First Trip Well Betty has made her first trip of many. A relatively sedate 5 hours from North London to Newton Abbot to stay with my Auntie Lissie. The last few weeks has been absolutely mental. We have been running around organising things and trying to get the load on Bettie down to something reasonable. As it is there is not a space left in her. But sadly we forgot the booze! However I'm sure we will be able to find some decent plonk in France. We are off tomorrow to Plymouth to catch the 15:00 ferry to Roscof where we then drive for an hour in dark and unfamiliar France to a B&B where we will be spending the ... read more
