Well wake up to another day full of sunshine so glad I got the razor to sort my legs out as it is another shorts day out there. Well did not expect to take a load of skin off when shaving my legs! It looked like a massacre had taken place in the shower with all the blood. You would not think a ladies razor could do that much damage! So we are off into Windermere again today. I know there will be loads of people around but think if we go later most of the day trippers will have decided to go home. I must admit would not want to be on the M6 motorway today, I bet it's chocker. Oh yes yesterday went out to the toilet block in the dark and got totally ... read more

So we wake up to an amazing day of sunshine as so happy that I had packed a pair of shorts but not so happy did not have my razor for my legs but hey ho as I am getting older my hair is going grey so had a double check and thought until I find a boots chemist I can make sure I do a river dance so no one can notice any hairy legs!! Anyway Mike decides he is going to have a shower in the motorhome which I think is a good idea until when he got in the water was not really hot - but then we remember if you put the heating on the water takes second best - so he waits - now is where the fun starts whilst we ... read more

So up early and with a full english brekkie we are going to make our way to Windermere. It was decided I would drive us there and Mike could be the navigator so I can see there being some heated words on this short journey! So after a short journey which if I am honest was not too bad, with no heated words, really surprising!! We find we are early to the campsite so park up until they let you in. This is where nearly our first heated words as not sure we were going down the right road but hey ho we find the site without a hitch. We are shown to our pitch as the camping and caravan club takes you to a pitch. We decide to walk to Staveley which is a nice ... read more

Last night we’d stopped at Gretna Green to have a break in the long drive home. As we have been to Gretna Green before, we weren’t overly excited at visiting it again. So I looked at the map and decided we should do a detour through the Pennine Way as as far as I recall, I’ve never been there before. The Pennine Way is AONB (Area of National Beauty) and Glyn thinks that’s just bragging. I don’t even agree with it! Yes it is very beautiful but natural? No. The majority of it is farmland and fenced. To my mind natural is rugged, wild and untamed by generations of humans. But that aside, it was pleasant enough and we stopped at Ashgill Force that had a few positive reviews on TripAdvisor. Ashgill Force is a waterfall ... read more

53 Miles. 12.7 MPH. 880 ascent The Mango Tree Indian Restaurant last night can be recommended. A great stay at the Jolly Farmer with a very luxurious breakfast before heading south along Mallerstang. First stop was the 13th century Pendragon ruined Castle before heading along to Sedbergh for a brew. Unfortunately the cafes were closed so we had to do a takeaway and sit in the street. Some narrow lanes to Kirkby Lonsdale in brilliant sunshine until we came across a Road Closed sign, which we ignored.as usual. Why are cyclists like this? Eventually we came across a big gap In the road where a new culvert was being installed with no chance of passing. A detour through the field across a wooden bridge got us safely past and confirmed my reputation for taking people off ... read more

We left Rosslyn with the idea that we would drive halfway home . We had a place in mind to stop for the night . Not your usual motorway stop off mind. We crossed the border from Scotland into England. The landscape was gently sloping dotted with pine trees and dry stone walls dividing the fields . Gabby ate up the miles as we climbed up Shap and started to see the signs for the Lakes to one side of us and the Yorkshire Dales to the other. The roads were fairly empty which meant that Gabby had a good drive homewards. We always feel sad to be heading home but we had one more stop in mind . A motorway service station . Go on say it - you never stop at a motorway services. ... read more

1121 miles the signpost said it was to Rome . Reivers to the right of us and Romans to the left of us ..............stuck in the middle with you.................... , me , Sion and our Girl Gabby. How did we come to be in such an odd place . We had left Carlisle and had a night stop in mind . In the middle of nowhere . Well it was in the middle of fields , hills and in the hamlet of Alston . In a field , in a car park next to the Nook Farm Cafe and Shop. Beneath the ancient form of Epiacum , Never heard of Epiacum . Me neither until today . We were on an overnight stop for motorhomers recommended by CampRA, CampRA was something new .It did not exist ... read more

Well it might begin with a C but Calais it aint . It will have to do though. A chance to scratch the itch of wanting to travel . Something that seemed unlikely a few weeks ago. So what did I think of Carlisle ? It seemed a mix of independent shops, many empty ones and a few beggars on the street . Masked shoppers and unmasked . Victorian splenour next to charity shops and a massive square filled with shoppers and a singer belting out Christian hymns . A medieval building or two, bench seating and alleys , jitties and gennels galore . Leading from one street to another . Scotland Street . Lowther Street , cafes , restaurants and pubs . I even found the Jobcentre . That is something I always find myself ... read more

Google the Giraffe . That is what the sign said . The instruction was writ large beneath a metal sculpture of a giraffe alongside the M6. What was that all about? You could hardly drive past without googling the Giraffe . It was a clever piece of marketing . We expected something like the Angel of the North . What did we get - a advertisement for a local company.. So why are we driving up the M6? Gabby the motorhome had arrived home a few weeks ago and we had spent the last few weeks emptying her out and refilling her with essentials for our first trip out of 2021. She had been nothing more than a wardrobe and storage cupboard for the last six months . This was our first opportunity to get her ... read more

Where is Gabby the motorhome parked up. She is parked up on the side of the road just outside the town of Bowness on Windermere. The town provides many parking spots . The cars have their own car park nearest the lake and the town. The motorhomes are outside of town on larger plots by the roadside . Why we wondered did the town put the motorhomes furthest out of town? The able bodied young in their cars parked up closest to the lake . Less far to walk .. The vans more often than not driven by pensioners and the elderly were out of town. It does not make sense does it - making the oldest walk the furthest. At least it was free all year round. Between Good Friday and October we could only ... read more
