Day 23 - Tuesday 1st August So today is the day that Neville Brown joined me for a day’s walking. Rather than write a guest blog, Nev agreed to an exclusive interview on his experiences. The interview took place in a pub (where else?) at the end of a long days walk and is given in full below: How do you feel? “Fine but tired” What was the best bit of the day? “Dunno… the waterfall was nice, not getting attacked by the bull was good but it did make us do extra walking…” Nev stares into space during a short pause. “… the garlic bread was nice. It was a taste sensation!” We had stopped for lunch at a very nice pub and stuffed ourselves, hence I think the reason for the last 2 miles ... read more

Day 22 - Monday 31st July The day started off with some rain, which I was very thankful for! It’s definitely easier to walk when it is not too hot. Mum dropped me off back in Grindley Brook as she was on her way down to Hannah and Rob’s. I decided to walk mainly on roads today since it had rained and I didn’t want to go through muddy fields and get my feet wet! I made really good progress only pausing to chat to one old fellow who told me not to miss the church he had booked his spot in for eternity, due to the views of the valley it had. I can confirm that Church yards are a good place to go during a walk, not necessarily for the view but for the ... read more

So begins the start of my solo trip and first stop is Chester. It was talked up a lot in my guidebooks but now that I'm here I can't say that I understand the hype. Chester is very tourist dominated, and yes the old black and white "Magpie" houses are nice, but they can't help but feel a little fake, as if they're deliberatly on show just for the tourists - which of course, they mostly are. Whatever Chester's charms are, I'm not really seeing them. Glad I'm only here for one night.... read more

One of the few drawbacks of travelling through an English-speaking country is that the TV news is in English. So first thing in the morning I learned that England was in the midst of an all-time heat wave. Temperatures this coming afternoon were expected to be in the mid 90's. And now we were headed deeper into the world that had no clue what "air conditioning" meant. The Welsh don't seem to do breakfast either so I left the Hand Hotel with a rather empty stomach. We took a very scenic early morning jaunt from Llangollen to Chester, just over the border in England. The ride was only half an hour so we reached Chester just as the old Roman-aged town was opening up. James took us on a brisk walk along the old town wall. ... read more

Hi everyone, Well as you may have noticed we haven't added a blog in quite a while...and this is because we haven't been up to much...Just working and saving money so we can finish work at the end of this week for a while. That's not to say, however, that we haven't been up to anything... Just over a month ago it was my birthday. I got lots of champagne and a Bakewell Tart from the ladies at work and clothes from Wes (which is just what I needed!). Wes also took me out to dinner to a lovely Italian restaurant in town. The weekend after that we went on a day trip around the Peak District, which is about an hour from where we live. It's gorgeous scenery! The perfect place for a picnic! The ... read more

Having competed this epic journey, I thought it only right that I should look back at the places I have seen, so here is my own Travel Review with marks out of 10 along with brief comments ! CITIES - Brussels 7/10 - Very picturesque, good cafes and restaurants, great for a city break. Cologne 7/10 - Lots to see and do, great location on the Rhine, another good city break. Moscow 6/10 - A great insight into its people. The city is exactly what I expected, grey buildings, the Kremlin and Red Square. Beijing 5/10 - Nice people but disappointed with Beijing. If you want to visit an American looking city full of corporate buildings then go to the US. Shanghai 10/10 - It surely must be everyones idea of what the far east is ... read more

Last weekend was a long weekend in the England in celebration of May Day, a holiday which dates back to Pagan times welcoming spring. We ventured off again for the weekend to the North East of England (Yorkshire to be exact) and began our holiday by visiting Whitby, a cute little typical seaside English village. Whitby is where Captain Cook was born and raised and there is a mini replica of the Endeavour which takes tourists out on joyrides. Whitby is also where "Dracula" entered the UK... The highlight of Whitby was Whitby Abbey which dates back to the Medieval times (and is still in pretty good condition considering). We then drove into Robin Hood's Bay, which got it's name because Robin Hood kept his boats there in case he even needed to make a quick ... read more

Hi everyone, We've had visitors!!! Last Wednesday morning Nat and Lennie arrived in the UK at Manchester Airport, beginning their six week tour of Europe. We were lucky enough to have them stay with us for six nights, until they departed for London by train earlier today. We fitted quite a bit in to the past week, including Liverpool, York and Harrogate. We went to Liverpool for dinner on Friday night (it was meant to be for the afternoon, but we left later than expected because Lennie left our car lights on and drained the battery!! We had to buy jumper leads and then find a car that could jump start it!!) and ended up at the Cavern Club where the Beatles used to play. On Saturday morning we drove up to York, a lovely town ... read more

Woo hoo!!! Two weeks holiday!!! Well we will skip what I did in the first week because basically I did absolutely nothing! So I was really looking forward to getting out of the house!!! Thankfully it was only a two hour train ride to Runcorn on Wednesday 12th April at night time. Uncle Arnold was there to pick us up from the train station at 10:30pm, and we were so tired that we pretty much went straight to bed! The next morning we attempted to get up at a reasonable time so we could travel by train in to Manchester. It only took about half an hour by train to get there. It was a nice sunny day but boy was it windy!!! Luke and I were pushed down the street as we began our exploration ... read more
