One of the benefits of doing Busabout is flexibility. Case in point is my decision while filling out the check-in form at Camping Jungfrau, I decided to stay only the mandatory 1 night. Part of the reason is that the area is expensive - very expensive. Another is that if I stay the 3 nights (2 full days), I'm going to want to do things. A trip up to the mountains (even taking the alternate route, and not to popular and €140 Jungfrau peak) alone would have been expensive. Then, with Interlaken so close, I'd probably be tempted to go canyoning, paragliding, etc. I figured that by the time I was done there, I'd be out 3-400SFR (which is almost on par with the Canadian dollar). For this trip at least, I made the call ... read more

We're here in Zurich now. I don't have much time bc the prices here are outrageous. The church with the bones was really cool. I loved it. Last nigth we stayed in a tent in Munich. I wish we had had marshmellows for the campfire. We just cooked some spagetti and are going to go explore the city. Tomorrow, I'm going to an art festival in Basel. Charles is going white water rafting in Bern and I will meet him there that evening. I'd rather save my money and go diving in Greece. More later.... read more

Bonjour all. Yes...despite all of the rumors you may have heard...I am still alive. I know it has been awhile since I have last wrote a blog, but I have been busy enjoying the finer things of Europe : ) I have been having an incredible journey. There is so much to tell. I was in Germany with the Binder's from the 2nd until the 11th, then to Interlaken, Switzerland and the Alps the night of the 11th and during the day of the 12th, and now I am in Geneva with the Getty's, which I came here last night and am staying until either tomorrow morning or the morning of the 15th. With much to tell, I will only share part of my time in Germany in this blog and then tell the rest in ... read more

So after the revelries of the final night with the football lads in Germany, I hoisted my weary limbs up out of bed early in the morning and said cheero to my roommate Pete. From there, I walked to the train station and caught a train back into Frankfurt, where I caught one of the flagship Deutshe Bahn ICE trains and whooshed through the countryside of South West Germany and across the border into Switzerland and Basle. Felt a bit like the real Steve McQueen, except of course there was no motorbike or ensuing blood-thirsty soldiers. Basel was one sleepy ol' town and a couple of days wandering around the quaint and time-preserved old quarter gave me a good feeling of 'getting away from it all'. There were several sleepy little courtyards nestled away here and ... read more

It has been several days since I've been in Geneva but my settling down has been time consuming and tumultuous, and hence it is not until now that I have the opportunity to scribble some of my experiences down. So, I guess I should go through it in a pragmatic chronological sequence. June 8th - I arrived in London 4 hours behind because of mechanical difficulties with the Air Canada plane. I was sweating bullets on touchdown as I feared missing my EasyJet connection at Gatwick airport. Thankfully, buses run regularly between Heathrow and Gatwick, and I was able to get there with a full 40 minutes to spare. On the bus between the airports, I met a medical physicist from Ottawa who was quite the world traveller. I perhaps made the mistake of adding fuel ... read more

We then spent 3 nights in Interlaken at Balmer's Hostel, which isn't that bad, but it's mostly a constant party and there are lots of beds to a room (like 12 in ours, up to 34 in some). Some of the beds were right together, lengthwise, so you are sleeping with complete strangers, possibly of the opposite sex. So Balmer's isn't that great, it failed to fulfill its purpose of giving me a place to sleep and shower due to the constant party going on and the cramped quarters. Our first day we didn't do anything, since we got to Interlaken around 6 or 7 at night (I think) due to long train rides through Italy and whatnot out of La Spezia. The second day we climbed up to Gimmelwald and Murren near the Schilthorn, which ... read more

Choose to hike the many trails or enjoy a trip up the snow covered Jungfrau mountain on a cog railway that passes through the eiger mountain! Went to the top of Europe ! Saw it snow for my first time ever. Got to sleep in till 8, then had pancakes for breakfast before heading into town to the train station to go on the largest cog railaway network in the world. The ride up was really beautiful, with all the mountains and trees and little towns, and of course the snow. It took about 2 hours to ascend the 3454m, switching trains at Klein Scheidegg and having photo stops at Eigerwand and Eigermeer. The snow was so amazing, so white and powdery and blanketing everything. We went into the ice palace first which was really ... read more

My latest travel adventure takes me to Lucerne, Switzerland . I seem to be destined to see all of Europe in the clouds and rain. This weekend was no different. But despite the weather Lucerne still gets high marks. And since tourist season has finally started in Europe there are lots more interesting people to meet along the way. I made friends from Canada, Australia and Dubai. Lucerne is surrounded by mountains and water which make it one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. My first day was mostly getting aquainted with the city and what it had to offer. I ended the day on a steam-ship cruise on Lake Lucerne. The next day started with a walking tour of the old city where we saw the Chapel Bridge with it’s the 17th century ... read more

I got to Interlaken a few days ago and its been intense. Yesterday I went Canyoning which is basically a combo of high jumps into waterfalls and rock climbing, and body surfing down the river. We did a few jumps, one from about 10ft and the higest one from about 40ft it was crazy. We also layed down and let the water just carry you down the rapids, seemed pretty dangerous but only 2 people got minor cuts. I only got 2 mins of the internet left but in about an hour ill be jumping off a cliff and hangliding, kinda crazy. Ill try to buy a token later and let you all know how it goes.... read more
