Sorry, it's been awhile. Switzerland was extremely expensive and we couldn't find any internet point that doesn't cost a day's food budget. Anyway, the Alps was amazing. Bern and Luzerne were a little of a disappointment. They both have medieval buildings and storefronts, Luzerne scored a point because most of its old town is pedestrianised, but Bern has its blue Aare river which was oh, so inviting when we visited because it was boiling hot that day. We saw some locals jumped from a bridge into the fast moving river and Chris was tempted to do the same. But he changed his mind in the end (lack of proper swimwear, or so he said.) Fast forward to the mountain. We didn't do the Jungfraujoch trip because it was so touristy (and mostly no money). I always ... read more

We are still in Zermatt, today was our one full day in the town. I really love it hear, its much more relaxing after running around Paris. It was so cold last night, and it smelled just like Lake Tahoe around Christmas time (weird analogy, but I'm sure you know what I mean). Today we took the furnicular up to the restauraunt near the Matterhorn. We walked for a while on a path, which eventually would have taken us back to town, then climbed back up for lunch. Its amazing how much more difficult the altitude makes everything here, especially after living so long at sea level. We had a light lunch at the restaurant, it was a beautiful view, and our salads were delicious. We came back down (by vernicular, not foot) and wandered around ... read more

Luzern closes down on Sundays, so we used that day to visit Mt. Titlis. We took the early train to Engelberg and then the train, cable car, revolving bottom cable car, and chair lift to get to the top of the mountain (about 10,000 ft. high). It was absolutely beautiful up there. We walked through the glacier cave and then went sledding in the snow for a few hours. It’s a strange sensation to leave on a train in 90-degree weather, go up a mountain in a cable car, and emerge to freezing temperatures. We lunch at the restaurant on the mountain with views of the Alps all around, and began the eerie trip down the mountain in our cable cars. We walked around Engelberg for awhile, visited the cheese factory there, and did a bit ... read more

Well from Berlin we caught an overnight train to Stockholm in Sweden. We weren't really sure when we were to get off the train to catch the ferry across the stretch of water that seperateds the 2 but we guessed it would work out. Hopped on the train at 11:30pm and straight into a sleeper cab and to bed. Woke up at about 4:30am with the train still rocking and rolling gently along, only to find out when looking out the window that the train wasn't moving!!!. During the night, the train had reached the port of somewhere, driven straight onto the ferry and it was as simple as that - all just too crazy to imagine. We eventually arrived in Stockholm to find accomadation a bit light on due to some convention or something, but ... read more

Glad we were that we stayed for Saturday. It happened to be the day of the annual Aldstatt festival. Basically they had beer and sausage/pretzel stands EVERYWHERE. There was music and street festival stuff scattered around the town, and there were so many people. We went in the shops and walked around the festival. However, after the sun went down, the streets were more packed than ever and it was impossible to move, so after walking around for a bit we retired. ... read more

Last night was our final night in Paris. We walked down to the Bastille area, which was very near our hotel, for dinner. It was a much different feel from other areas we had been, it kind of reminded me of downtown new york. We ended up having Italian again, the french seem very fond of their ham, which doesn't really work for any of us. On the walked back, it started sprinkling, then pouring rain. We dove for cover under an awning, and saw our first Paris car accident (those little cars don't dent!) We ended up running to our hotel barefoot so that we didn't slip. Today we spent all day on the train to Zermatt, Switzerland. Once we figured out the Eurail pass, its a really easy way to travel. The train ... read more

Pictures are forthcoming of one of the most beautiful places in the world. Interlaken, Switzerland surrounds you in mountains like no other place Ive seen before. Me and Jen spent 3 days at a hostel named Funny Farm where we relaxed at night by the bar meeting people. We river rafted down the river that extends from the glaciers down through the valley, and eventually winding up in one of the lakes next to Interlaken. The views were awesome. The next day we bought a camera and rented scooters and drove up the valley to Stechelberg where we took a gondola to Gimmelwald, a small mountain village where goats outnumber people. Leaving Interlaken we headed to Geneva the next day. We lucked out finding a hostel that wasnt full booked and walked around the city. Genevas ... read more

The train ride from Paris to Luzern was rather stressful. Got out of the hotel at the crack of dawn and didn’t have time to go get my pain au chocolat. The elevator down to the train station didn’t work so we drug our bags down a bunch of stairs, made our way to Gare de Lyon, got out Eurail passes validated and made reservations for our train. We did that and then grabbed a bite to eat before boarding the train. Our reservations had us going from Paris to Geneva, then from Geneva to some random city in Switzerland, and then from there to Luzern… all with train changes in about 5 minutes. When we got to Geneva, though, we passed through customs and hopped a train headed to Luzern. It was an intercity train ... read more

Hello all! I'm still here in Interlaken (I leave tomorrow). Rafting was a blast. The water was a nice refreshing 6 degrees celcius. I never imagined that Switzerland could get so hot. It's incredible! Yesterday, I went hiking with a couple of girls (One of which I met in Zurich and she just happened to be in my tent here). We climbed Harder Kulm, 1322m, 4337ft. It took us around 5 hours round trip. Then, we got a big group of people together and we all cooked tacos. I really miss Mexican food (and hot showers, soft toliet paper and country music) Oh and I ran into some guys that I met at Kunta Hora about a week ago. It's a small world! Today, I am going to find a nice spot on the lake to ... read more

Back to Geneva on an 8:30 flight. It was a beautiful day, and because I was so very exhausted from my adventures, I decided to hit the Lake Geneva beach up. It is not much, basically just a 200m long concrete slab jutting into the lake close to where the Rhone river leaves (there are nicer beaches that this, but this one is right downtown and is very close). There are a couple ‘beach’ areas which are pretty rocky, but most people just tend to sunbath. The place was absolutely jammed. The European style of beachwear is so different that Canada, and although I’ve seen it before, I feel like it is worth reiterating. First, the women. One piece bathing suits do not exist here in Europe. Everybody wears bikinis, whether young or old, trim or ... read more
