Ok so i am sorry that i never really finished my last trip with an entry that summed everything up. The reason i never really finished is because i was extemely sick at the end of the world University Games, and although they were one of the greatest experiances i have ever had, by the end i was ready to come home, sleep in my own bed, and eat some bacteria free food. Now you all know that i have been living in Switzerland for just over a month, and there are many reasons why i have not posted a blog yet. some examples so you can better understand; 1) i knew i was going to be here for a while so i did not feel to much pressure to post everything right away. I guess ... read more

Ok, seriously the best trip ever, the most gorgeous place i have ever seen. I absolutely loved this trip. If you have not been, you must. I will definitely be going back. It was so much different from the city life. Clean, more bikes than cars, wild life, mountains, clear blue water, nice, english speaking people, it was fantastic. The train ride up was not as thrilling. We had a sleeper car; yeah we were packed in there. Six beds in a little room, slightly uncomfortable. I tried to sleep most of the way. But they brought us a nice little breakfast when we woke up and, man, the view when we woke up was amazing. The houses are exactly what you would imagine for this region, and the mountains, god, the most breathtaking mountains with ... read more

12/10/05 - In Switzerland we said farewell to our petite cousins (distant cousins) - Jean, Beatrice, Jean-Frédéric and my Uncle Robert at a restaurant on the banks of Lake Bienne. We discovered that Swiss cuisine is not at all comparable to the French food we have grown used to. Jean- Frédéric was on his way to Lausanne to start his studies at a business college, so we all tagged along on the drive from Alsace to Lausanne. We followed Jean’s green bus through Alsace to Switzerland, via the many tunnels that finally get you to Lausanne. The Swiss don’t just put holes in their cheese; they also put them through their mountains. The many tunnels through the Alps certainly make road travel a lot faster than if you had to drive over the Alps. We left ... read more

Reddening leaves on the vines frame the view across the lake with Europes finest mountains as a backdrop. My hands are sticky with sweet grape juice and the lingering flavour of cheese in my mouth reminds me of thoughts I had in China not long ago: Waking up to another breakfast of fish-heads, chicken feet and pig ears, I longed so dearly for the cheese, chocolate and good bread I had experienced in Switzerland years before. I also longed for some clean, cool water to swim in. Now I have it all! It sounds ideal... good food, friendly people, a beautiful location, and to be honest it is pretty close to it, just the aching back to keep things on a plain. Having spent the last half year struggling to understand the local languages, it is ... read more

What an amazing trip. Switzerland is a beautiful, picturique country. We left on the Friday night from Stanstead airport with a slight delay (as you can tell i dont have much luck when it comes to flights and delays we arrived quite late about 11ish and had to find our way to the city center to our hotel. We didnt too badly considering we didnt know the language and took public transport. Saturday we decided we had to go see if we could find some snow. So we caught a train at 11.00 and took a 3 hour journey, 2 trains, 1 tram, 1 bus and 2 gondallas later to be 3000 ft above sea level on a glazier. The journey through the little villages on the passes up to the top where just so quaint ... read more

It was our first free weekend to travel anywhere in Europe we wanted. So six of us girls packed our bags and headed off to Switzerland. It was perhaps the best first trip one could ever take because it taught us so many truths about backpacking through Europe. The most important being that the only thing you can really count on is things never going as planned. Gaming, Austria (where I live) is like no other place in the world. Basically, since the town is so small and there aren’t accessible means of public transportation, hitchhiking is an acceptable thing to do. It’s fast, effective and saves us from having to walk 45 minutes to the train station with our monstrous backpacks on our backs. Four of the six of us hitchhiked down to the train ... read more

On the 27th I said goodbye to my mom for the second time that year and then I got on the wrong train. She went back to Paris to fly back to Washington and I was supposed to go to Geneva but ended up in Marseille. I've said it once and I'll say it again- that is a dirty city! A nice lady got me the right ticket and an hour later I got on the right train. This train mixup resulted in a very late arrival in Geneva. It was, from what I could tell in the dark, very rich and business focused. It was clean and not too crowded but, aside from tourist shops and restaurants, every other building was occupied with offices. The next morning I moved to a hostel next to a ... read more
