Stockholm to OstersundAmanda Ingela and Stockholm After landing in Madrid, we had to go through customs and security again. Stockholm was our final destination and we seriously had just gotten off an FAA security approved flight so I was a bit confused as to why we had to go through security a second time, but “European Amanda/ Chill Amanda” was going with the flow. Ok, well I may have been a security risk. Before we left, Michelle got us these insane looking camp-inspired silverware sets that were heavy and bulky. When we got our food they gave us small, metal silverware, and I, being related to Mormor, said that we should send back the Swiss Army Jujitzu knife/spoon/corkscrew/fork/nail file set and just use the little guys. (I mean I have a serious issue with using a ... read more

Hi everybody (w Jamaican accent)! Its been a while since my last blog entry. I've been REALLY buzy w work (waiting). I have heard sooo many pick-up lines from drunk people. These two are the best: I heard this one when I was wearing a name-tag which I had unfortunatly placed right over one of my titties: "- Diana, is that your name. Do you know what, I have a dog named is Diana. What a coincidence!" and this one (I heard this one when I was serving chicken-wraps at a party): "-Wraps? Why dont you "wraps" you arms around me? How about that!!! I have barely seen any of my firends. Today was my first day off for a while. Well, actually I have had some free days, but I always had stuff to do, ... read more

1½ days later, we've made a gallant effort at seeing as much as possible. Today was fun-filled, but as usual, just not enough hours in the day (actually not enough hours that places stay open). The night in the hostel was good. Quiet, fun, clean. The showers were GREAT (those big Euro rain showers). We started the day at the Nobel museum in Gamla Stan. Something different... Alfred Nobel is actually from Stockholm, and when he died he had no children, so (with the massive fortune he'd amassed from numerous inventions, especially dynamite), he established the Nobel Prize. The museum was small but actually kind cool. From there we ran over to see the Changing of the Guard. This one came with a cool marching band. Supposedly, little groups of teenage boys in their local ... read more

I made it! What an adventure... In my neverending drive to become the biggest cheapskate, I screwed myself again... haha You'd think I'd learn from my mistakes. Maybe this time... I left Jerez, Spain on an evening flight to Stockholm, putting me in at 1am. It was a little cheaper so I figured, what the heck I'll save money and take the late flight. The only problem is that by the time I took the bus down to Stockholm (a nice 30-min ride) and a cab to the hostel where my friend made us a reservation, they were closed. It was 2:30 and I was standing outside the door, banging franticly, where they closed at 2. (unbenounced to me, my friend had actually been up and waiting for me until right around 2:30 when he ... read more

Well, as far as Tyler is concerned, we have reached the "motherland." It's not that he has Scandinavian blood in him -- at least not as far as we know -- but Tyler just seems to connect with this beautiful, rugged, COLD, ice-hockey lovin' part of the world! While Griffin's and my teeth were chattering, Ted and Ty were out carousing the streets in search of the latest NHL playoff game. They even managed to see a few. We had considered shortening our trip a bit and Scandinavia is the area we would probably have left out, but we're very glad we decided against that! It is stunningly beautiful here and all the water!!! Living in Colorado, we miss being around water and we got our fill of it in this part of the world. Finland ... read more

Short on time at this internet cafe so here's a synopsis... Took the ferry across the sea from Turku to Stockholm right after the exhibition opening. I had a bunk to myself right next to the engine room under the car decks, but it only cost me 10 euro! Taking the ferry was a great move and I arrived in Stockholm just in time for a 7am breakfast! I spent three days in Sweden before moving on to Norway... highlights included the amazing Woodland Cemetery with chapel by Gunnar Asplund. I stayed two nights in a smaller town called Uppsala just north of Stockholm as it was the only hostel I could find in Sweden. It turned out to be a great place as I got to see some viking burial mounds at Gama Uppsala ... read more

Alas, this entry is not nearly amusing as others but this is my travel update as of current. The small but bustling city of Malmo Sweden located in the area of Skåne is only a half hour away from Copenhagen by train via the Copenhagen Kastrup international airport. For my first jaunt into Sweden, I have nothing to prove for it (except for shopping and a belly full of bad Swedish fast food meatballs and mashed potatoes) as there are no customs formalities between these two countries and therefore no new stamp to add to my passport. The bridge connecting the two countries is supposedly one of the longest in Europe measuring at about 16km long. This bridge is a great tool for Danes and Swedes alike who wish to party/shop in the other country ... read more

In May mom and dad brought us to Lidingö outside Stockholm to see Millesgården, a museum over the famous sculptor Carl Milles. Mom and dad were talking about him like he was some sort of genius. Mom said "He has created many of the finest statues we have in Sweden" and dad said "He is famous all over the world and we should be proud that he was born here in Sweden". Well, it was a nice day so why not go for a ride we thought. And besides, we had nothing else to do. Travelling with mom and dad is always fun even though museums aren't our biggest favourite. We travelled to the museum using bicycles. Stockholm isn't very big and you can visit most of the town using non-motorised vehicles. We paid entrance fee ... read more
