Hi, Well the difference between Tapas and Pinchos are Tapas are free. Need I say what I eat. Tapas are finger foods. Mostly olives, cheese, bread. Our day starts early 5 and we are out by 6 on the road. We see the sun rise every morning becuase by 2 pm its hot. Very hot. We have been walking the mountians through wine vineyards and olive tree plantations. A lot of churches and old ruins. During the day we pick and eat fresh figs, blackberries, grapes, from the wineries amoung other things. The views are breathtaking. By 2 pm we have to look for a place to stay. We stay in Albeguers. These are hostels, so we sleep in a commune type place. Bunkbeds. We have to wash our cloths each day by hand and hang ... read more

So, we've made it to Pamplona and for the first few days we have been living in the old town. It's been quite an introduction! Sadly, the flat isn't really what we want so our old town adventure is to be short-lived. Even so, it's given us a terrific insight into life in Pamplona. The city is mostly famous for Ernest Hemmingway and his stories of the "running with the bulls". It's quite a prominent feature but there is a lot more to this city and we feel we are going to be very happy here. Our explorations have taken us around some of the city's old walls and fortifications. We even found an art display inside the old arms store. There we saw a collection of works by some comic artists. it was very good ... read more

today was a long walk from Logrono to Najera 31 km but a beautiful riverside locale with restaurants and bars. tomorrow I plan to take a side option to the birthplace of Spanish language and some early cathedrals which on tthis walk are very special and tranquil to visit. t The atmosphere remains one of gratefulness and fatigue among the pilgrims no complaints!. was hoping to be in Burgos by Friday night to see a friend off on the train to Denmark not going to make itsadly.... read more

Well finally got to join in the dancing! The town is rocking to a public square setup DJ etc. which apparently does not obey the Australian rules of sound off at 10! Could be a night for the ear plugs. Not going so well with the photos but still planning to get to that. Short walk today from Pamplona to Cizur Menor only 10 km but can´t walk after no sleep heaps of noise in the streets of Pamplona and the pilgrims all get up at 6¨00 or earlier to beat the heat. Only two really good nights sleep since Oz. Also near mishap today as I forgot to put my sleeping bag out on my bed when I arrive. It´s the way to mark the territory. German girl ended up in my bed and much ... read more

Buenas Noches! Have just been on a tapas and cerveza crawl around Pamplona for dinner with Susanna from Denmark who is staying here in the Municipal Auberge also and has been walking with a group of us for the past several days. Tonight is 7€ which has been typical of the cost not including dinner or breakfast. Great wine can be had for 3€ a bottle! Today´s walk included a stop by the river Arga for lunch, lamb fettucine and coffee which is why I am carrying the gas cooker. It also rained today for the first time allowing a good use of the wet weather gear. The scenery has been at times boring and at times incredible but always there are fellow pilgrims who light the way which is the most important for me. I ... read more

Sorry to leave you in that suspense. We met up with Mack Haisten again in Barcelona and so you can infer, or deduce if you are Sherlock Holmes, that when Mack ran he survived. Also, I have to say it since I know Mack´s co-workers are reading this, the things I said in the last blog entry were slightly false, he is a good guy and a hard worker...when he wants to be. I feel like the entire point of this trip was the encierro and this blog is a tribute to it. We decided to awake at 530 since 1) we have never seen the running live and 2) we have never seen the running live. We arrived at the course around 630 and picked our spot on Estafeta about 300 meters from the bull ... read more

Alright baby birds, I can hear you chirping for more feeding all the away across the pond. So I am here to silence you for a bit. First off, I want to say I hope my buddies, one Joshua Raymond McNamara, wedding tomorrow goes well and she says I do, if she says I don´t meet us in Barcelona. I will say this post is occurring in the wonderful streets of Pamplona where the sangria flows like Niagra Falls, if you could drink all of the falls in Niagra. But before I speak of the wonders of this morning, I must talk about our "One night in Madrid". You might want to actually grab a glass, or better yet, bottle of Spanish vino because this blog may be somewhat long winded, "but I will make it ... read more

I have been to Pamplona for San Fermin twice, the first time in 2010 and again in 2012. Here is my experience and a little info for first time San Fermin Festival goers. San Fermin happens every year on the 6th of July with it all kicking off at midday with the opening party. Over 1 million people come to San Fermin each year. The fun part is the opening party, everyone is dressed in white and a red scarf and heads to the square to wait for the celebration to begin. You will need to arm yourself with a couple litres of Sangria which can be purchased from the little stores all over the city in preparation. Once the party begins, people pour Sangria on each other and dance. The locals who live in the ... read more

Actually I´m in Los Arcos, but it´s not in the list so Estella is close enough (21 Kms away). I´ve spent the last couple of days in a bit of a catch up phase with walking. Yesterday I did 29.5 Kms from Cizur Menor to Ciraqui and today 35-ish to Los Arcos. The scenery now actually looks more like Spain, if you were to imagine it - big blue skies and wide expanses of brown (although they are actually wheat crops so it´s a bit deceptive). It poured with rain yesterday morning which provided the first experience with rain. I don´t want any more please. Today was warm and I had to walk in the afternoon for the first time - not liking that much either at the moment... There were only six people in the ... read more
