Hello to all! The weekend has come! It was a pretty laid back week, I just got over a pretty horrible cold, which has been going around here like the plague. I'm feeling much better now, though, and am able to sleep all night without waking up with intense coughing. Last weekend me and a few friends were able to make it out to Aranjuez, a small town located south of Madrid city. It didn't take long to get there, and there was a really cool palace that I was able to tour. Luckily since I have my student card I'm able to do things like this for half the price as an adult. The coolest part of the adventure, though, was seeing the royal gardens. Wow, the park was so huge! There was even a ... read more

Wow. Paris is cool. Our three day weekend was amazingly well spent considering the last minute plannage that went into making it happen. We managed to see and do a lot considering how little time we had there. I really enjoyed it and immediately fell in love with the city regardless that it was only sunny for about 5 hours total during our trip. We also managed pretty well considering what little to no French we know and everyone we met was very friendly and willing to help out. I want to try to keep this as short and simple as possible due to the amount we did, so I've broken up our trip into our three days. Being concise about my adventures though isn't really my style, so bare with me if I dive into ... read more

Hello November. Crazy. One .5 months down ... time has flown by. The last couple of weeks have been a rather uneventful blur, but things are going to start getting pretty interesting, I can feel it in the air. Now that October is over, I have 'unofficially' moved into my new, 'permanent' apartment. I HAVE KEYS! It's a weird feeling leaving something I have become very comfortable with and entering a new place. It's exciting too as now I have my own room and space that I can decorate however I please and feel 100% settled. I am only a 5 to 10 minute walk from the girls I have been staying with so needless to say I am sure I will still call my Ocotober piso a second home and visit frequently. Yesterday we celebrated ... read more

Hey everyone! Sorry this post is so late, I just finished midterms here so this week has been crazy with all the studying, etc. But here's the dish about my latest weekend trip - Madrid! I went with my friend Alex, who goes to Tufts and met a girl in last year's Tufts summer program who was studying English there for the summer. She were born and raised (and still lives) in the city of Madrid, so she was an amazing tour guide! We flew into Madrid on Thursday night and checked into our hostel, which was the first floor of an apartment building, therefore it was in a greaaat location but was very very small; we had to share a room just big enough for two bunk beds to be squeezed in, with two girls ... read more

Just wanted to wish everyone a happy halloween! It's a pretty relaxing week for me, because I have Thursday off since it's a holiday here in Spain. This means I have a 4 day weekend! Plus today I only have 1 class. I got paid from one of my companies today, so it's nice to have some extra spending cash! Tomorrow night my friends and I are all having a big halloween get together sort of thing. we a We are beginning to make initial plans for Morrocco. We have bought the tickets already, but now we all must plan where we want to go and what kinds of things we would like to see. We'll be there for 10 days, so I think that will be suficient time to be able to see a lot ... read more

From Cordoba we caught another fast train to Madrid where we stayed for 5 days. The fast train really is the way to go; although relatively expensive it took just under 2 hours to cover the 420 kilometres. From the main train station it was then only 2 short metro rides to our hotel, which was reasonably well located near the centre of the main shopping streets, and not far from a number of the major sights of the city. Madrid had less appeal to us compared to other parts of Spain and other cities in Europe. It was big and dirty and very, very crowded. We didn’t feel very safe walking around. The pedestrianised shopping streets that ran from the Grand Via (one of the major roads through the city) to the Plaza del Sol, ... read more

After another weekend in Madrid, I’m enjoying the tranquil life in Segovia. Iñigo came to pick me up in Segovia on Friday, and we went to Madrid to celebrate his friend’s birthday. I got to meet all “the guys,” each one a distinct and amusing character, but all very courteous as well. Although I was the only girl in the group, they made sure to make me feel comfortable and included. We lounged around a bit on Saturday, and then Iñigo cooked me dinner at his house. I was pretty impressed with his knowledge in the kitchen! Later that afternoon I went to watch his soccer game at a field in South Madrid. He plays on a league with all his friends, which made it that much more fun because I already knew everybody. I sat ... read more

¿Cómo estais? Everything went fine here, except yesterday morning (headache). I arrived last Tuesday with Ryan Air, one of the European low cost airlines. I arrived at Madrid Barajas Int'l Airport. The airport is quite large, but not so nice from the outside. It was my first time with Ryan Air...I've never got so little legroom in an aircraft! Once inside the terminal I took the metro to the city center. Madrid has an excellent metrosystem, very very good and better that I expected. With the metro you could reach almost every part of the city, there are dozens of stations. I arrived at my hostel and it was in the afternoon. Then I decided to take a map and go for a walk in the area around the hostel, just to get to know the ... read more

Hello, hello! These past few weeks have been so nice! I've finally gotten a chance to settle into a schedule, do some running, and to meander through Madrid. I'll take a boring moment to run through my classes that are finally in full swing. I'm taking Mediterranean Art History, Mediterranean Politics, a Mediterranean seminar (at least 8 hours a week.. yuck), and Spanish. So far, so good. I really like my professors so all of the classes are easy to bear. Tomorrow we're going to the Prado for the second time with my art professor so she can talk to us about each painting instead of flipping through slides. My politics class is focused completely on Islam in politics and the main question for the semester is: "Does Islam block democracy?" I can't even begin to ... read more
