Witchy Teachers
This is us with the teachers of the classes we assist. Next to me is Silvia, Ana has pink hair, Inma is next to Nikki, & Alicia has the white hair. Hello November. Crazy. One .5 months down ... time has flown by. The last couple of weeks have been a rather uneventful blur, but things are going to start getting pretty interesting, I can feel it in the air. Now that October is over, I have 'unofficially' moved into my new, 'permanent' apartment. I HAVE
KEYS! It's a weird feeling leaving something I have become very comfortable with and entering a new place. It's exciting too as now I have my own room and space that I can decorate however I please and feel 100%!s(MISSING)ettled. I am only a 5 to 10 minute walk from the girls I have been staying with so needless to say I am sure I will still call my Ocotober piso a second home and visit frequently.
Yesterday we celebrated Halloween at the school. We had been preparing for this 5 hour event for almost a week and a half and it was 20 times more crazy that I expected. Nikki and I were asked to dress up as witches, so we left our apartment Wednesday morning sporting the same really ugly striped turtleneck ... It's cool, we teach elementary school, we can do
Classy
Nikki & I in our matching attire that .... at least that's what we kept telling ourselves as we rode the metro to school surrounded by people who were not celebrating. The rest of our outfit consisted of a giant black trashbag with appropriate head and arm holes cut out, a belt made of poster board, long brown and gold striped socks (all i could find), and of course our hats. It's so funny to see the kids eyes light up when they see you dressed up and realize that they soon will get to wear their own special trashbag. There was absolutely no need to even try to teach them on this day because between all of the swishing sounds from the costumes, the giggles passed back and forth between friends, and the shortest attention spans ever, there was no way any of the teachers could educate. So we played games, read stories, sang songs, and drew scary pictures. It was really fun but quite tiring. I almost slept the entire way home on the metro from being so worn out. As it was also Nikki's birthday, the students surprised her in the middle of the day by congregating downstairs and singing to her. It was
Favorites
Three of my favorite girls, Irene on bottom, Maria eating her hat, & Marta hiding behind very sweet and also quite loud. She loved it.
We went out celebrating last night as well. Nikki dressed up as a 50's house wife and I did my best to try to look like a 70s disco queen ... I needed a fro but I managed to use another kind of wig which was very helpful in making me feel less like a fool. SO less like a disco queen, more like a flashy, crazy tight wearing, black headed girl .... We met up with a large group of our friends and had a really great time hanging out and later dancing our feet off. It was neat to see that a lot of Spanish people our age were out dressed in costume as well for the night. I was under the impression that it's not a very popular holiday here, so not being the only ones dressed up made the night even more interesting. We did run into a lot of people dressed as doctors with fake blood all over their gowns ... not quite sure why that was so popular but it was everywhere.
I have 'unofficially' moved to my new apartment because we are
Oh Malena
this girl is a sweetheart going to PARIS tomorrow!!! So I'm not staying there until next week sometime after we return. We have today off which has worked out very well as a recovery day from yesterday's events and allowed me to pack up the majority of my things in a non-hurried kind of way. I'm really excited about our trip minus the fact that it will be a good 10 degrees colder there but it's Paris, sooo I'm not too concerned. We get back Monday and have to head straight to the school, which will make for a long day as we have to get up early to catch our flight and must stay at school until 430 ..... I will deal with that when it comes I suppose.
I am enjoying myself and really getting into the groove here. I am hoping to start making more travel plans now that I have a home base and will also have a Spanish bank account on Monday (or next week sometime).... I hope you all had a great Halloween and October! To all of my Furman friends, I hope you enjoy homecoming! I wish I could come, I know you will have a good
Vampiros!
Adrian & Viktor, two of my favorite boys, but they're a handful time though, I will miss spending that time with you!
If you'd like to send me any mail you can!! I would LOVE to hear from you all!!! And if you'd like to stick any pictures in there for me to decorate my room with, it would mean the world to me (as I am lame and did not bring any with me to do just that)!!! Below is my address. I miss and love you all very much and think of you every day!!! Take care!!!
