My current job has particular perks. One in particular that I really enjoy is the school calendar, offering me plenty of vacation time. Also, living in Spain with it's predominently Catholic culture hands over many 'holidays' as well. So I have decided to take advantage of this time 'off' and use it to discover and explore new places. One of these so called 'puentes' timed itself perfectly around my birthday and I decided it must be spent somewhere amazing ... enter Morocco .... This was an organized tour through a 'foreign student social group' I am a part of...so aside from knowing Nikki and Arturo (one of the guys who organized the trip) everyone else was brand new. Half of the group was from Mexico, a good handful of Spaniards, a couple of Dutch girls, and ... read more

No. its not like in Sweden, with snow for christmas time,:O) but nowadays you never use to know if it going to be a white christmas ore not. Ones in a while we use to look outside the window and it still snowing... A WHITE CHRISTMAS - Does it still exist? Moi!

It was a quad-continental re-union. Meg flew from India to hang out with MC and I in Fes, and then the three of made our way (via Barcelona) to Madrid, where we met Katie Wang, recently arrived from New York. The four of us set about to explore the city that lives in the shadow of Barcelona; we found it more charming than we expected and spent most days wandering the streets and navigating the metro map. The trip was made possible by Katie Wang's Thanksgiving break from teaching, so we set about to have a (somewhat) proper Thanksgiving at our hostel and with wine and two slices of pumpkin pie, gave thanks for reunions of old friends in new places.... read more

So an opportunity presented itself for Ali and I to take a trip to Germany to visit her cousin and his girlfriend, and stay with his girlfriend in her house for free. We have a four day weekend approaching, so we figured "why not?" She lives in a small midieval town called "Villingen" which is about 60 miles southwest of Stuttgart. Everything looked great for us to fly out on Thursday the 6th and return the 9th, so we booked the tickets. It wasn't until I was reading the confirmation e-mail that I realized we accidentally booked the flight to leave on FRIDAY instead of THURSDAY. Well, for the price we paid, we figured only 1 full day in Germany wouldn't be adequate. Quite upset, I phoned the AirBerlin customer service line, and luckily the guy ... read more

We were in madrid almost two years back and I never quite got around to putting my ecstasy to something more readable!!! Well 2 years later, here I am trying to put it all down.. It was my first visit to Europe and it was an interesting perspective. Not going to write about specific places, but the overall difference in culture of a "western" country as compared to US was a pleasant surprise. The richness of architecture, the messages of history and tradition that most places had was wonderful. I loved the way the women dressed. I haven't been to Paris, so I woudn't know better but having seen the americans and UK women, this was a fresh breath of air and afcourse the women were extremely good looking...And we did do a fair share of ... read more

Happy late Thanksgiving!! We arrived to Madrid yesterday around 3pm. The airport was such a hassle; we couldn't find our baggage claim, walked around the airport 10 times, no one spoke English. Took 3 different trains to get the hotel, FINALLY got settled in at like 5pm. I think we were both kind of grumpy and tired at that point! In any case, we met up with Greg (whom I met traveling in Munich) at 7pm and headed out on the town. We are staying in Puerta Del Sol, which is a pretty central location with lots going on. The main plaza has some pretty fountains and statues, and is bustling with people. I think most of our night was spent wandering and bar hopping, and getting lost. However, we did pop into some cool spots ... read more
