Today we went to see Gaudi's Sagrada Familia again. Paid the 15euro and went up the towers. It was AMAZING the best thing we have seen so far. Here are a few pics from the day. Love... read more

I know we said we were headed to Sagrada Familia next, but you quickly learn to go with the flow when traveling with a baby. When we got up, we attempted to go to the Musuem of the city, which contains an underground excavation of the Roman city, but found it to be closed on Mondays. So we walked through Barcelona's gothic cathedral, rumored to be the darkest on the continent. Pat took a picture of Jesus looking down from the cross that he is quite proud of (nicknamed "Spooky Jesus"). Then we headed off in search of lunch. We found a fantastic place with a 10 Euro lunch deal that included bread, two courses, wine, and desert. Pat and I had scallops served in the shell and the Spanish version of meat enchiladas for the ... read more

We arrived in Barcelona at 3pm Friday afternoon. The weather much like Madrid was really nice, about 75 degrees sunny. After getting off the eurail, our first mission was getting to our hostel. Using the map and getting directions from locals we found it with relative ease. After getting into our room we dropped our stuff and planning for the 3 days we were there got underway. Once we got a rough idea of what we were doing the next few days we headed to George Orwell plaza for some cheap yet satisfying food recommended to us by our receptionist. On the way to George Orwell, not knowing any better, we decided to walk down a street infamous for prostitution. A local recognized that we were “Indian” and attempted to talk to me in Hindi. I, ... read more

After our last posting, we decided to head up Montjuic, the 'mountain' in Barcelona, which happens to be about a block from our apartment. We strapped Delaney in to her carrier and hiked up the mountain for some beautiful views of the Sea and Barcelona. There is also an old fort up there with some distinctively less old anti-aircraft guns. On our way down we stumbled upon a small zipline in a park (completely unattended of course) and had a great time taking Delaney for rides on it (unfortunately the video got deleted...). The next day we wandered through the Gothic and Born districts to the Ciutadella park, Barcelona's answer to Central Park. There was a gorgeous fountain there as well as half of Barcelona's population enjoying their Saturday picnics. Delaney enjoyed some quality time on ... read more

Well, apparently my airplane karma is still very, very bad. When we arrived at Fargo airport, we were asked whether Delaney had a ticket. Of course not, she's 1. Well, apparently 1 year olds need tickets for international flights even though we booked through AA's website and told them we had a baby with us. We were informed we would have to pay the full fare as listed for that day! Of course, we threatened immediate bodily harm at that point. Somehow they were talked down to just $240 for Delaney's ticket and though still angry, we proceeded to our plane, which was late. Luckily we had a 2 hour layover in Chicago before our flight to JFK. At O'Hare our flight was listed as on time right up until it was supposed to leave, then ... read more

Adios and farewell from Spain! I have to say that on a whole Spain has been my favorite country, beautiful cities, fantastic weather and an overall good vibe. Barcelona has not disappointed. It is such a beautiful city. There is so much to see and do. Barcelona is known as the pickpocketing capital of Europe, but luckily I didnt get to see that side of the city. All I saw were some amazing buildings, friendly people and great food. My first full day in Barcelona didnt start off smoothly. Firstly I had an interesting night at the hostel. I was the first to bed at 11.30pm and when I woke at 1am I realised I was staying in a room with 5 boys and me (it was only a 6 bed dorm). That was fine, it ... read more

Well, the love affair continues and I am now in the "getting to know u" phase with BCN ... my English is decreasing and my Catalan increases in inverse proportion.. I try and learn a new word every day.. today's word is hortalisses....carrots, peppers and the like.. I am sorry for the break in transmission but basically Ive been studying, eating, sleeping, studying yada yada ... average night's sleep is 3 hours and last nite I had 7.. and started clapping in my sleep cos I was so happy so a brief synopsis of the week apart from the CELTA induced ( i think that's a compound and should have a dash, but let's be anarchic like the peeps in Placa Catalunya and not put one) madness and paranoia is that I went to Camp Nou ... read more

It's hard to write about Barcelona without feeling a strong desire to return to the city! We made our way around using the metro system and spent a lot of time walking. Some people prefer to take the tourist red bus that hops from sight to sight!! So, what's so special about Barcelona? The people, the tapas, the wine, everything really! We enjoyed Parque Guell with it's Gaudi architecture but we would probably have enjoyed it more with a few less visitors around. We also loved Parque Montjuic with its funicular and cable cars to reach the summit. The walk back down was lovely and we were so pleased we founnd our way to the National Art Museum. It's free just to go in and see the building's marvellous interior, but you have to pay to ... read more

Hola! Coming to you live from Barcelona. This week has been hectic and insane, but heaps of fun. My last blog was in Granada. So I took the train from Granada on the 9th to Madrid. The train took 4 hours. I was up again at 6.00am, and by the time I got to Madrid I had devolped a nasty headache. I think it was half because I was exhausted and half because I probably hadnt drunk enough water in the hot weather. Either way I wasnt feeling the best. Once I got off the train, I couldnt be bothered to navigate the public transport so I took a taxi to my hostel. Lucky I did because I probably wouldnt have found it in a hurry, The sign and building was covered in scaffolding. The hostel ... read more
