You can't go to Barcelona and not visit Camp Nou. The home of the Spanish and European champions is an amazing place for any football fan to enter. Even Trish enjoyed it! Having had his football shirt blessed by the Black Madonna, it only seemed fitting that Russ should wear it on his stadium tour. An opportunity was missed though when he wasn't prepared to queue to lift the European Champions League trophy in his blue and white stripes!! Seriously, this is one mega sports museum. On entry you are given an audio tour in your chosen language and as you travel around you key in the relevant number and listen to someone telling you all about the history of the club from its humble beginnings through Diego Armando Maradonna to the mercurial Lionel Messi. Well, what to say about Barcelona? Our first impressions were "Wow" and it just got better from there on in! We stayed at the url=http://www.hoteles-catalonia.com/en/our_hotels/europa/spain/catalunya/barcelona/hotel_catalonia_albeniz/index.jspCatalonia Albeniz hotel near to Clot metro station. Although it was a short distance out of town, it suited our needs perfectly. Our first evening in the city was spent with friends on their rooftop terrace near the Ramblas part of town. It was a great evening which ended up in a tapas bar with delicious chorizo and wonderful Rioja wine!! Thanks to Jean and Kelly for your hospitality. The next day we set out to explore the city on foot. Barcelona is a great place for walking and we exhausted ourselves by wandering all day. We began with the closest attraction to our hotel, Gaudi's url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sagrada_Fam%C3... read more

Yesterday was pretty rubbish cos I was missing my mama a lot. Pour quelques moments, la vie est dure, n'est ce pas? Thanks for reading my blog, guys.. Love the comments..Great to spur me on! The lift didn't arrive.. too expensive! But now I can climb up the whole 6 flights with a much less lengthy pause, so i am getting fitter .. I don't eat much as "lunch is for wimps" on this course ;-) and v intensive workload, so will have lost a few kilos by end of the course so ... altogether now,. in your besting singing voices... Tuesday May 3rd, 2011 Barcelona, Spain It might be part of Spain, but Barcelona has a character all its own. The people there talk their own language and call themselves Catalonians. Barcelona is a big, cosmopolitan city. The architecture is simply magnificent and you can feel the vibrancy of the place as you walk among the people. Once they were part of the Roman Empire and then they were ruled by the Moors for 700 years. The Moors were finally defeated and Spain was united by the marriage of Ferdinand and Isabella. This unified Spain tried for years to suppress their language and culture and make them all Spaniards. But, somehow through all that they have kept their separate identity intact. This pride was quite evident in the commentary of our guide as we took in ... read more

Well today I walked up 2 flights of stairs and then phoned Otis and ordered a lift to be installed tomorrow afternoon.. when the Ikea bed is being delivered.....Today was much better at school. There is loads of noise outside and i think Barca has just won the match v real madrid...... Alla!, Well some of the students i did teaching practice (TP) with yesterday are better at teaching than some teachers who've been doing it for years so not much hope for me then!!! Got feedback today re TP I did yesterday from tutor and i wasnt bad but did cock up on the bit that i shared with the "whole class" today which just increased my verguenza.... and then, to add insult to injury, we were reassured this afternoon that we are: a) not ... read more

The month-long stand with Barcelona continues but haven't seen a diamond ring yet (sorry T about that!!!) I.m managing to hurtle up to the 4th floor in one go now, and then after a breather, up the next 2 flights to my room in the sky.it has its upside... I touched a few clouds yesterday and I'm the first to feel any rain-of which there was quite a bit yesterday..and I warn the others in the street below.....it hasn't cooled my afore-mentioned ardour for BCN, though. Well, the first day at school was INTIMIDATING,. I'll probably have very little time for spending the hours listlessly blogging on here so be prepared for a "Brace Brace" type landing in terms of my blogging journey....it's 5am and I can't sleep...is this a taste of things to come? Well, after a rainy start in Fuengirola this morning at 8am, Rebecca got me to the church, sorry, airport on time (still got weddings on the brain after yesterday!) and we landed at 11.29am.. everyone on board clapped and i cheered and realised that this was my first ever domestic flight experience so I clapped again... mine was the ONLY price of luggage to be on the carousel in BCN airport!! How weird was that....... Got on the 46 bus and arrived at the magnificant Plaza de Espana and then jumped on a 56 bus and found my apartment.... now for the funny bit.. for an asthmatic.. the flat where I am staying on on the 6th floor and no lift to be seen anywhere.... 2 hours later the luggage and me sat down in the ... read more

There are many ways to travel. Some people plan every minute in advance, reading travel guides, choosing restaurants, booking tours and hotels before departure. Others fly by the seat of their pants, with nothing but a credit card, a Lonely Planet and word of mouth to guide them along the way. While we are not so footloose to jump on any train not knowing where it’s headed, we do like to plan as we travel, sometimes not knowing where we’ll be next week. This trip has become as much about visiting family and friends as it is about seeing Europe. Even before Panama and hospitality became our way of life, we often traveled with our parents to go and visit people we knew, whether it was grandparents for the holidays or siblings abroad. Because our original ... read more
