Away we go. Goodbye Europe and Hello Africa! The day started with more exploration of the city of Malaga, visiting the Pablo Picasso museum, and navigating our way to the airport. Goal for today: get from Malaga to Italy, Italy to Ethiopia, Ethiopia to Uganda. Airports are an interesting place to hang out and this trip has been great in experiencing the variation in the process. In Malaga, each airline had multiple check in counters, but you were sorted by flight. Meaning you could only check in for a flight when they wanted you to. So despite getting to the airport 2.5 hours early, we had 45 minutes before boarding. Italy’s airport was more like a Mall of America than an airport. Finally, Ethiopia‘s had a triple check-in. One to get into the departure terminal (which ... read more

We arrived today in Malaga, Spain and after a short hour taxi ride arrived at the only hotel reservations we had made prior to leaving on this trip. After 18 days of frequently switching residents and travel days, I am SO excited to stay put for a full week in a quiet oasis. I have so much thanks to my Aunt Terri for helping us out with these amazing accommodations. We are spending our week at the Marriot Playa Andaluza in Estepona where are room directly overlooks the Mediterranean. I am most excited for the following things (in order): We are going to have a full kitchen and are going to be able to cook our own meals. Despite my typical dislike for the process of coooking back home, having most of our recent meals be ... read more

To escape the miseries of winter at Sauble Beach this year we decided on the south of Spain in January and February then Italy in March. We did a combination of self booking (Air bnb) and had a knowledgeable agent help us with trains and tours in Italy. The first week was spent in Madrid with a day trip to Toledo; now we are in Malaga in a cosy apartment until the end of February. Here is the first installment of our latest adventure.... read more

Saturday November 19th and Sunday November 20th... Malaga After leaving Gibraltar we drove to Malaga situated on the Costa del Sol...Sun Coast. The hills and coast line along the way were filled with what looked like condos and resorts. The Barcelo Malaga was a modern hotel adjacent to the new mall/rail station complex and located near the bus terminal which made for serious convenience. (In the hotel there was a metal slide from the first floor down to the mezzanine bar.) The mall was filled with restaurants and we each picked something different for dinner take out...Taco Bell for me, Pizza Hut for Dawn and Sushi for the Temples. On Sunday we took a short taxi ride to Plaza Marina to walk about the stunning old town, an area with everything from cafes to ruins to ... read more

Andalusien 6. – 16.

Zoe This morning I woke up and got ready for Córdoba. Córdoba is the capital of Andalusia. The drive was 2 hours from our house. When we arrived we went to The Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba. It's called the Mezquita. The building was a mix of different religions and styles. It was very hot. So after our tour we needed water and lunch. We had calamari and eggplant. Then we drove home. Bella and I had a swim in the pool. Then dad went to collect Michael from the airport. Michael is bella's godfather. Josia, Kym, Bella and I walked down to the festival in Cartama. The festival was really good. There was a street parade of the ancient story of Belle and Jarife. There were stalls everywhere though the streets. Some stalls had food, candles, presents, ... read more

Zoe Malaga?! This morning we had to get up early to catch a flight. Where to? You say, well we are going to Malaga. It takes 1:50 hours, to fly from the North of Spain to the South of Spain. When we arrived we had to catch a van to the car rental place. When we were waiting in line for the van the man told us that there was only one more seat in the van. So dad had to catch the van without us. But it only took 2 minutes for the next van to come. The ride was only 10 minutes from the airport. Then we got our rental car. It was exciting because Dad had to drive on the other side of the road. Plus our house is on the side of ... read more

Myself and one roommate decided to do a little south of Spain exploring and I had heard so many things from others about the beauty and the fun they had there, so we went for 5 days! Málaga is directly south of San-Sebastián on the opposite coast, hahah! We took the bus to Bilbao ( about an hour ) and then took a crazy short 1 hour flight. When we arrived, I was in love!!! I think the thing I loved the most about the city was the streets. We have cobble stone streets in the Basque Country, but down in the south I was mesmerized by how unique each and every street was with different stones, and designs. I absolutely loved that. I also loved the Ferris Wheel, not quite the London eye, but it ... read more
