With the goal of checking out Ronda and Córdoba, I bought a cheap flight to Málaga (from Santiago de Compostela) for the end of February. Originally I hadn't planned to spend a lot of time in Málaga itself, but after doing some research, it made the most sense to stay there from Saturday night through Monday morning of Carnival weekend (in 2017, the last weekend of February), before heading to Ronda. I lucked out with it being Carnival, because there was a bit more to see as a lone traveler. It was also cool to contrast (the part I caught of) Carnival in Málaga with Carnival in Ourense (that´d I’d experienced last year). Saturday night, there weren't nearly as many people dressed up as I expected, maybe 1 out of 4 or 5 people. It may ... read more

Don't poke a crocodile with a stick, no matter how big your stick is. That is the most important thing I have learned today. The day started like it normally does for us in Spain, which meant getting lost for an hour and a half before we found what we were looking for. Today the elusive intended destination was the Picasso Museum in Malaga. Now I'm not into Picasso but had to learn a bit about him at college and could at least appreciate that he knew how to draw before going all nuts and developed his own 'style'. Thus I presumed that I would come out of this pleasantly surprised, but no. It really was mostly childlike crap that made no sense whatsoever and was not visually pleasing to me. If art has an intended ... read more

It's definitely warmer here! No gloves needed, and scarves are optional. Sometimes the wind blows, but it's not freezing, like up north. At night, however, it gets chilly in the room since there's no heating. And this hotel is so much better for me than the previous one. This is not my first time in Spain, but it is my first time in the south. I can say that I was not particularly pleased with my choice during the flight to Malaga yesterday. I was surrounded by a group of maybe 30 barely-pubescent Spaniards in the back half of the plane. They were loud, always standing in the aisle, and acted like they didn't realize other people were on the plane. I felt like this is how it might be if we were all on a ... read more

Well, I'll just be quick the flight bit...crying all the way to the airport with my mum. So very emotional, but I got chatting to a lady in the queue for luggage check in and started to feel a bit better. All went pretty, smooth. I didn't even bleep when going through customs. Flight was ok, but I can see why Ryan air flights are the cheapest (not that I'm moaning). I got chatting the lady next to me who was lovely and I was getting excited. Arrived in Malaga.. A relief as I collected my backpack, which luckily was the 2nd down the conveyor belt and I strolled out into the foyer, took a deep breath and smiled. Found the taxi rank, the driver did not know where my hostel was so he gave me ... read more

This weekend, our travels took us to the South of Spain, on the beaches of the Mediterranean called the Costa Del Sol. To get the cheapest flights, you have to travel early, so we woke up at 4am and were on the bus towards the train station which would bring us to the airport for our flight at 7:25am. The good thing about such an early start, however, is that we reached paradise before lunch. We were amazed at how easy it was to get from the Málaga airport to our hotel, in a town called Torremuelle just down the coast from Malaga. From the airport train station, it took us about 25 minutes to reach our station in Torremuelle. It was, however, really difficult to find our hotel from there: it took us about 1 ... read more
